Put it in modem mode and use your DIR-615.

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

so if i want 100-120mb its best to buy a another router and not bother even trying the superhub, if thats the case whats best for range ect for about £100

Thanks Lee

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

your DIR615 will do you in the short term dude but you really need to be looking at a new router. Under no circumstances should you use the shub in router mode. If you want to do yourself the biggest favour ever and save yourself a great deal of time and hassel you will put it in modem mode and buy yourself a Linksys router. There are various models to choose from and what Craig has suggested above are the top of the range models which you might not need. It looks like they have changed the range about. Something like this should be perfect for you and is a bargain at £65 because it was £100 a couple of weeks ago when I recommened it to someone.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Linksys-Perf...3435912&sr=8-4

Lots of features but the most important thing for you is that it has got gigabit ports and simultaneous dual band which is great. Run n and g at the same allowing all your laptops, mobile phones etc to get connected at their maximum speed.

I have always used Linksys routers from day 1 and never had a problem with any of them. They have always been rock solid, reliable and delivered great performance.

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

With a £100 budget, the E4200 or EA4500 are perfect

General Maximus 20-11-2012 20:12

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

sorry, missed the £100 bit, you defo want the E4200, it is la creme de la creme and you'll be mocking all the ming mongs who come onto the forum with shub problems telling them exactly what I have told you; do yourself a favour and buy a Linksys router because they are awesome

craigj2k12 20-11-2012 21:49

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

yeah, or the EA4500 which is higher specced

duggie2006 21-11-2012 08:05

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Thanks for all your advice gentlemen i will go and order an EA4500 then and save myself a lot a time and effort, any recommendation of a supplier or will a Google search suffice.

Again thanks
Lee

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Amazon looks the cheapest so far. You want to get it from a reputable retailer and not somewhere you have never heard of.

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Wow £108 is a bit overpriced for a "N900" router...

craigj2k12 21-11-2012 16:44

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

not really

especially if you consider the specs of it

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

You can get a N750 and an additional, separate N450 for that... N1200? Or three N450's (N1350?!?!)

I may sound dumb but you will need to explain this to me? Is this a bit complicated to get wireless through my house? is that 3 seperate routers?

Thanks

Lee

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

yeah they are joking. The beauty of Linksys routers, and why I recommend them to everyone, is that wireless i awesome and unless you live in a mansion the one router will do. Some people with shubs have to add additional routers to extend the transmission range but you shouldnt have to do that with a high end Linksys router. The Nxxx bit refers to the throughput. On a 100mbit connection with gigabit ports you know you are going to get 100mbit wired. With wireless you are going to get as fast a connection as the router can transmit and that can potentially be a bottleneck. Obviously an N300 (300mbits) is more than enough and when you look at anything higher you'll only benefit from it from a future proofing perspective or if you do a lot of lan transfers been NAS or stream content to TVs and stuff.

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Three routers will usually provide better coverage and better performance than just one. It may be a bit more complicated to set up but then you get a lot more performance for less money. If you're willing to spend a few minutes setting it up to save £50...

What may take you 20 mins to set will most likley end up with 3 router paper-wieghts, i am the reason that plug n play was invented.

Again thanks for the explanations and help (me learning good)

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Unlikely. Setting them up this way requires no more knowledge or complexity than what you will already have to do just to set a password or name on your wireless network.

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

My EA4500 will be here today(thanks for the recommendation) so will be setting it up this evening,i have been reading about the cloud interface it uses and some people dont seem to like it and recommend loading old firmware onto it instead. Can anyone advice me on setting it up ect.(just remember to keep it simple please,if possible)

Thanks for all you help.

Craigie recommended it and I reckon he has a duty to help you configure it. You were wise to research the cloud interface.

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

You'd be right. Once working, of course, that is an awesome router. If it were me, I'd not use the cloud firmware. Not enough control would be in my hands. It was a crackpot idea by Cisco.

duggie2006 23-11-2012 13:40

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Would it make much difference in reality to me? i would be just using it as a simple router / maybe to stream movies to my tv. The only things connected to it would be a skype phone interface,ipods,ps3,printer,laptops.

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

The cloud thing is just a question of difficulty in managing the router. Better to have it configurable from a menu in front of you, IMO.

duggie2006 23-11-2012 13:54

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

i see, so its not that the cloud firmware is bad from a preformance point of view, just an administration point of view?

Sephiroth 23-11-2012 14:01

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Yes - that's right. The cloud has no effect on performane once it's set up.

Agreed. The cloud config is useless when you can't access the internet (which is probably the most important time anyone needs to actually change their router settings)

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Cisco must have had a VM (SH) moment when they conceived that stupid mechanism!

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Well its working!!! just put in the disc, it did its thing, set password ect and it works.

now do i revert back to classic firmware or not?

Re: Superhub Install or Not?

Going from memory here (and it's not great at my age), I think the biggest downside to the Cisco Cloud was the EULA, whereby Cisco have the right to monitor all your router traffic.
This is why people are downgrading to an older firmware. There was a lot of anti Cisco outpourings at the time it was discovered.
