Watching the footie on the above channel and a 10 digit number has just appeared on the bottom left of the screen, rather strange, anyone any idea why this is?

Your smart card number (or some variant of) so Sky can track you down in case you are streaming the game on the internet.

well no numbers appear on sky sports HD 1 OR 2 when I am watching football

The VM statement is pretty disingenuous.

"This is not related to your individual subscription and is generated automatically as part of the broadcast." And yet it is being used to track down people streaming the stuff online so has to be linked to your subscription otherwise it would be useless in tracking people down.

It blocked the positions in the F1 and has just blocked the number of chances stat on Sky Sports 1. How can they say it won't affect the viewing experience? It's incredibly distracting and blocks what is on the screen!

It appeared during the Liverpool V Newcastle game today. It's the first time I've noticed it. I'm glad I noticed this thread as I intended to give my tivo a reboot later on. :)

got sky sports I am not happy that thay are trackins our subscription's like this

Are you sure? People on digital spy are saying its a ref number to accounts.

they say it goes if you change channel and back again or if you watch it on a second delay.

This doesn't happen with my box so I believe all virgin customers are seeing the same number

So don't stream the feed from your box on the internet.

If the answer to that is "I'm not" then they won't be tracking your account.

When I became an early adopter, many of the forums especially TiVo Community Forum (primarily TiVo S1 owners) said "record everything" I was having none of it I just wanted to watch what I wanted when I wanted. However after many weeks of having my TiVo automatically change channel on me for suggestions I started to record everything I wanted to watch even if I was watching the live broadcast. The upshot of this learnt technique is that I personally have never seen this mysterious number.

It is a rather silly security measure (Reported on many forums and probably even this forum on another thread) that is so easily defeated I can't understand the point of it, just watch everything from My Shows (in other words record) and you'll never see the number.

I'm not streaming from my box but just started to get this today and had this at parents at the weekend.

Is this on Sky as well or just on VM ?

It's also on Sky , just had it appear on the United game. It appears on Sky above the Sky Sports 2 HD logo.

How many Virgin customers subscribe to SKY Sports? I'm sure a couple of years ago Virgin publish a figure. If anyone has any ideas, or a link to figures, I'd be very grateful.

I cancelled my subscription to Sky Sports yesterday because of the interference the number gives to my viewing and i'm sure others will follow if this is not rectified swiftly.

At least in a week or so's time i'll have Sky installed and will be able to watch Sky Sports without any interference.

Yes they do but they have their number above the Sky Sports logo and it's of similar font and brightness as the logo itself so you don't notice it much (if at all really)

I thought it was the number of times that Siralex pointed at his watch whilst United were losing. I was going to shout "Twist". Mysteriously, once United went in front, his watch seemed to be OK again...

They never asked me for my reason for cancelling so I never said anything to them, but I think that might be cos i'm on my final few days of my 30 days' notice to cancel my tv service anyway to go to Sky.
