Speed Doubling Delay
This morning I just remembered the numerous emails and TV adverts saying my speed was being doubled.
This was all pencilled in for October 2012 for my postcode area. Great, I thought but it's almost the end of October now and I've not noticed a difference. So I just went to the website, entered my postcode and low and behold we're now on for March 2013-August 2013. :erm: That's quite a delay by any stretch of the imagination. Is my experience common in this roll out? |
Re: Speed Doubling Delay
Yes its very common there are several posts on here about changes to the roll out schedule.
It looks like Southampton (AndyCalling) is the first area that has been properly fully doubled. http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...lling-out.html |
Re: Speed Doubling Delay
Thanks Jumping. It's quite a delay isn't it

Re: Speed Doubling Delay
I'm sure there's been several threads about this already...

Re: Speed Doubling Delay
Theres only a delay in automaticly moving up.
You can manualy move up WITH OUT pay any thing extra. buy using the Phone... 150 option.. ZERO fees and completely free upgrade.... The 30Mb/s down was not realy a big deal but the 2Mb/s upload from 1Mb/s is realy welcome.. |
Re: Speed Doubling Delay
Since you should be on 3Mb/s upload but you cannot get it, there is clearly also a delay in manually moving up.

Re: Speed Doubling Delay
what tier are you on at the moment and what VM equipment have you got?

Free super hub, Free installer bloke (if you want one, was told installer bloke would be quicker than post man for my location), free flick of the switch after install to activate it. 10Mb/s / 1Mb/s to 30Mb/s / 2Mb/s More than double on download and nearly over a year early...( No waiting till march 2013 for me. ) https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/19.png Notice the charges section for installs and equipment is £0.00. Telephone and on demand charges were £5.22... The 35p was the price change I was due anyway for staying on my deal... ( The bill would have been less but I had to phone a few people more that month... ) |

I was speaking to retentions, I wasn't that bothered about the speed increase to be honest but I was trying to get the best deal I could. To the OP yes there have been delays, it's unfortunate but sometimes the best laid plans have to change, it's probably why companies are reluctant to publish such deadlines. (in reality they probably felt compelled to do so to try and retain customers, I guess it's possible it's backfired somewhat) |

One of the first steps in change management is to access the level of works which needs to be completed in order to estimate cost and time scale. VM knows what their infrastructure is and what equipment is required to upgrade each area and the man power it is going to require. I can understand a few parts not turning up etc (although you would hope they were ordered in advance) but unless all the engineers have done a mass resignation what is the excuse for putting so many areas back by 9 months? Poor planning........ |

Then I was asked to explain what it was. I did so, and was told the only way I can get a speed increase is to PAY for it. :( Or did I get through to the wrong person. :dunce:  |

Good English, so I suppose it was UK.

Re: Speed Doubling Delay
When you call them again, select the "thinking of leaving us" option. You should get someone who can help. I've done this and had a good response.

Whilst I was on, I also asked for an upgrade to a HD TV box for free, but was only allowed one for £10 instead of the usual £20. |
Re: Speed Doubling Delay
Our upgrade is set for "November", I've just been on the DoubleSpeed website and it says
Your area is ready Congratulations! The new double speed boosts are already up and running in your area. I've just rebooted my SuperHub and am still on 20meg, do I need to do anything or should it change automatically? |
Re: Speed Doubling Delay
Graham they should force a reboot their end when it is ready. I would give it a couple of days before being concerned. Other users have complained in the past towards the end of the month only to find that they get upgraded on the 1st or 2nd of the new month.
Taf: they might have finally realised that upgrading everyone before the capacity is available isnt a particularly wise idea |

I don't honestly believe VM (or any other company for that matter) would provide a timeframe that is not deliverable or realistic. Hell even Apple delayed iTunes 11 a month ;) |
