BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Very difficult year, normally we're struggling to work out who has done enough to merit the award and this year there are so many people who would win it. Bradley Wiggins - certain winner if it were not for Andy Murry who would also have been a certain winner if it wasn't for Sarah Story and the list goes on...

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Yes l have to agree with you as there are so many fine candidates and l would not know what one to choose at the moment as there has never been a sporting year like this one for a long time..

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
You added a Joey Barton option, REALLY?

Really tough call this year, I'd imagine the Olympians will get a special group award leaving a fight between Murray and Wiggins. |
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Barton to win all the way. None of those deserve to win Personality of the Year imo. Although I suppose Murray will win it. But until he wins Wimbledon, he hasn't achieved anything major in my book.

I'll take a different slant and say Clare Balding. Sports commentator, presenter and writer).
She has come through her own adversities, and she smiles more than Murray :D I admire her very much. |
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
No John Terry? :erm: :D
Impossibly difficult to judge because so many of them have achieved so much. However, taking the word 'personality' as my cue, I've voted for Jess Ennis as she has a smile to die for. |

Yes, she is also a fine figure of a woman, though personally I prefer more curves, such as those I am blessed to enjoy here at home. ;) |
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
I went with Andy Murray. Mostly because he won the US Open, was passionate about losing the Wimbledon final, but also won a gold and silver medal at the Olympics. Bradley Wiggins is a close call for winning the Tour de France as well as the gold. Mo Farah would be up there as well on account of his 'story' and the symbolism of a first-generation immigrant competing under the British flag and his obvious pride in doing so.
|
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
I can't decide. Any other year at least half a dozen of them would be red hot favourites to win. I've narrowed it down by excluding Baron :D

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
It has to be Wiggins for me 99 editions of Le Tour the biggest and most prestideous Cycle race in the World and not even a sniff of a British winner apart from the great Robert Millar. Wiggo did it in style , he then went on to win the Oylmpic time trial a week later
I conceed Murray has done a great job this year and it will be a close battle between them. |

Apart from Joey they are all winners and all their names should be on the trophy.:)
|
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
The only winner will be the bookies, taking all those bets. ;)
|
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Presumably Joey is on there for those who are tempted to vote Wiggo but afraid that he might hunt them down to chin 'em and stub a ciggy out in their eye.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Joey Barton is just on there as a joke...

Barton should win the toerag of the year award.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Andy Murray, he has achieved something brilliant in a sport that has some of the greatest ever players the sport has seen in its history playing at the moment.
|
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Wiggo. Murray's achievement is fantastic, but Wiggo is the first Brit to win the TdF which is the biggest cycling event in the World. With respect for Murray, the US Open is one of 4 Grand Slams. It's not quite on a par with the TdF. It would have becom a very hard choice if Murray had won Wimbledon though.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
I narrowed it down to Wiggins or Murray and finally went for Wiggins. It will be interesting to view this year.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
My vote goes to Ellie. About time the title was voted on what it is, not flavor of the day
BBC Sports Personality of the Year. |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Got to go with Andy Murray.
He became the first British man in a Wimbledon final for 74 years. After finishing as runner up he broke down in tears during his post match speech. One month later he's back in 2 more Wimbledon finals to secure a gold and silver medal for team GB. Finally on Monday he ended Britain's 76-year wait for a male Grand Slam singles champion with an epic victory over world number 2 Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. It involved the longest tie break in US Open Final history at 12–10 in the first set, it made Murray the first man ever to win an Olympic gold medal and the US Open in the same year, and it tied with the 1988 US Open final as the longest final in the tournament's history. Oh and as a little bonus he won the 2012 Brisbane International at the beginning of the year too. Murray has been the nearly man for the last few years with many doubting he could win a Slam. This year he has shown great heart, commitment, mental strength and character. He has also opened up emotionally this year and let the fans get a glimpse of who the real Andy Murray is. Apart from Jessica Ennis, I can't think of anyone else in the list who has had the same level of expectancy and pressure put on them by the press and public as Andy Murray this year. This for me is what makes him the sports personality of the year. |

Ironically the partnership between the usually droll Murray and the blunt Lendl has been a winner with the press, and has proved Murray has a great sense of humour. |

The ATP World Tour Finals, regarded as the fifth slam, takes place at the O2 Arena in London during November. In the tournaments 42 year history there has never been a British player in the final. Surely IF Murray wins this he'd have a great chance at sports personality of the year. |

She's also a bit marmite - she certainly seemed to polarise her team mates' opinions of her. One of the support team is marrying her, although it seems he had a major falling-out with another of the team, who was his flat mate, because of it. |

Sports Personality of the Year: BBC award shortlist named
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/sports-...ality/20466947 |
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
From the shortlist, Ellie Simmonds would be my first choice, Nichola Adams second and Wiggins third. Under no circumstances do I want Murray winning, anyone but Murray.
|
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
I was pushing for Andy Murray however got to go with Nicola Adams.
Adams defeated Mary Kom from India in the Flyweight semi-final before defeating world number one Ren Cancan in the final to claim the first Olympic women's boxing Gold medal in history. Her dominant performances were a highlight of the Games. Unlike many others on the list, Nicola has since shown she has a great personality in her public, TV and radio appearances. A true real role model and pioneer for womens boxing. |
