Change Modem Mode IP from 192.168.100.1 ?
 

I've just received a SuperHub, and swapped it into modem mode so that I can continue to use my Draytek router that maintains VPN's router<->router with my office.

You'll have guessed that the office network is in the range 192.168.100.n

My own home network is in the range 192.168.102.n

Does anyone know if you can change the Hub's IP in modem mode?

I'm pretty much certain it can't be changed. Have you tried just using it - there may be no problem in practice.

You can't change it but it makes no different in modem mode as far as i know. I haven't changed mine and my network isn't in the same range has the superhub.

i dont think the shubs ip really makes any difference what you set it to because the devices will just see it as the default gateway. I am pretty sure you can cant change it on the shub but you can on proper routers. Why dont you change your home lan ip subnet to 193.168.100.1 onwards? You should be able to do this on your draytek

You can change it in router mode - you can't change it in modem mode ;-)

The question was about changing the IP in modem mode.

I couldn't find a way to change it.

In practice it seems to be working, the only effect I can see is that if I type 192.168.100.1 into my home PC's they don't 'see' the SHub, I guess as there will appear to be two devices, whatever device at the office has that IP (maybe a server) and the SHub.

I can't change my home network IP's as the office is fixed by the IT team at 192.168.100.n and they give each homeworker with LAN access the next range up, so there is someone with 192.168.101.n and then me with 192.168.102.n. There will be others after me... 103, 104, 105 etc.

I now need to find out why, when I just use the SHub I get 87mbps down and 4.8mbps up, but when I change it to Modem Mode it drops back to 60mbps and 1.5mbps. Those are the same speeds as I had before the SHub arrived (when I had a regular cable modem from Virgin) so I suspect the Draytek router may be the limiting factor :(

I can happily access the super hub in modem mode by typing 192.168.100.1 into my browser, your set up seems to be a little more complicated than mine as you a make reference to your home network and the office network.

Yep, as you say, when I type in 192.168.100.1 it goes first to my router, which is sat running a VPN between it and another Draytek in our offices, where it can 'see' a whole other network running on 192.168.100.n.

You just need to do a static ROUTE ADD on the Draytek so it knows to send 192.168.100.1 to your CM gateway and not over the VPN.

I'll just confuse things if i ask more questions, it sounds like you have sorted out your issues which is the main thing :-)

It asks me for:

Destination IP Address
Subnet Mask
Gateway IP Address

I'm not sure what way around it wants the info, or how to describe the IP addresses.

Destination: 192.168.100.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: ?

i think the gateway should be 192.168.100.1 as well. It already know that 192.168.100.1 is your default gateway for unknown addresses but if it thinks it had got a known route to the 100.n subnet then it will send it through the vpn. As silly as it sounds you need to tell it to send traffic for 192.168.100.1 to the gateway which is 192.168.100.1

You want destination 192.168.100.1 Mask 255.255.255.255 Gateway Whatever your real gateway is.

Seems strange :rolleyes: but I've set up that route. It doesn't seem to do any harm, but when I put 192.168.100.1 into a browser it doesn't go to the modem.

What does a tracert to 192.168.100.1 show?

You need to set your real WAN gateway on VM's network, not what GM said.

The three variables the Draytek asks for are:
1. Destination IP Address
2. Subnet Mask
3. Gateway IP Address

For No.2, the Subnet Mask, if I enter 255.255.255.255 it is fine. If I try 255.255.255.0 it automatically changes it to 255.255.255.255

If I put 192.168.100.1 into both IP boxes, using TRACERT I get:

192.168.102.254 is the IP address of the Draytek router.

If I look up the VM Gateway (via the System Status page of the Draytek) it seems to be 82.33.182.1

So I then put:
1 = 192.168.100.1
2 = 255.255.255.255
3 = 82.33.182.1

I get the same TRACERT result:

Also my Internet conection stops working, so I'm probably sending things in a loop!

Hmm, damn. That *should* work, but alas it looks to be not routing properly. Maybe it's a metric thing (with two overlapping routes, one sometimes needs to set explicit priority of one over the other) but I'm guessing your web UI doesn't give you the option for that...
