The Site has been updated now says to check back for updates after September as a general date.
Just be happy your not in...
Devon moved to March 2013 and August 2013

Dorset moved to the same date as you, December 2012 and May 2013

(Happy that I Forced the issue for Free upgrade even more.)

Delays are only for existing customers of course.

New customers and those willing to upgrade or take a new 12 months minimum will get doubled downloads (but not uploads). Any extra bandwidth for these special cases gets plucked right out of Mr. Birkett's nether regions by Beardie.

Manchester M41 moved to March 2013-Aug 2013.

This is total bull excreta, I know they have the capacity here as only last week we had a pair od door to door dudes SELLING it. New customers only thing, I guess.

kwikbreaks 18-07-2012 10:57

Re: Upgrade delayed massively

Door to door sales are not VM - they are chancers working on commission.

VM just like to provide everybody - including existing customers - with "to the occupant" flyers in case your recycling box is a bit empty. If they spent the money on upgrades instead of mailshots maybe there would be less delay.

Re: Upgrade delayed massively

I just checked Warwick area this morning and same story here. Originally slated for July 2012 onward and now December 2012 -May 2013. Very depressing considering that this area is already 100mb if you want it. When the news broke that VM was going to double broadband speeds way back in January 2012 it was splashed everywhere. The reality is for many of us... speed doubled but not for over a year. Just wondering whether to phone up and discuss with retentions?

kwikbreaks 18-07-2012 11:15

Re: Upgrade delayed massively

Well mine's....

Your area's upgrade is going
to take a while longer

We estimate your area will be ready between:
March 2013 and August 2013

But as I paid them an extra £2.50 a month and signed up for 12month minimum my speed went from 10Mbps to 60Mbps. The high congestion which lead to me downgrading from 50 to 10 seems to have been fixed too.

Kabaal 18-07-2012 11:23

Re: Upgrade delayed massively

You would think that with such massive delays for some they would have to do something about the pricing. People paying the same for 50mb as others on 100mb, same for 30 as 60 etc. It all just seems... wrong.

LenMackin 18-07-2012 11:28

Re: Upgrade delayed massively

It's the absolute worst thing about VM, their ridiculous pricing structure which is really hard to get to grips with. I am paying £41 per month for 50mb broadband, the basic telephone package (never used) and the basic (never used and disconnected) TV package which is basically only free tv stuff. I have a superhub that can only be used in modem mode. If I was getting 100mb at that price it would not be an issue but as I am on 50mb I am not a happy customer!

So call retentions. You could bin the phone line for starters although it would only save a couple of quid or so why keep it if you don't use it?

Don't worry - I did that in January for my current 'deal' and currently building up my evidence for another call.

Same here, very poor planning and communication.
Shouting from the rooftop about doubling speeds, but keeping very quiet about the long delays.
My area was due in July 2012, so are they telling me they only realised in July 2012 that it would now only be upgraded in November or December. What happens when November comes along, another delay.
Seems to me they are playing a game here, promise double speeds because there is now fibre competition, keep your existing customers on the promise, BUT then fail to even try to deliver to the promise.

What now - do they hope I will hang around until November to see if that is another hollow promise, taking my money every month of course, but failing to provide the speed to me that new customer get for the same money.

Shameful.

Welcome to exactly why I left VM earlier this year - last year's upgrades to upload speeds got delayed so many times I ended up being able to get 12x more upload speed from a certain other competitor for less money.

You ring on 150 (VMP) and pick "leaving us" option and then start to haggle.

30Mb/s, 60Mb/s and 100Mb/s services are all ready running in most areas.
10mb/s can allready upgrade to 30Mb/s
20/30Mb/s can allready upgrade to 60Mb/s
50Mb/s can allready upgrade to 100Mb/s
But they Require you to RING CS on 150 for Virgin media phone users

New customers all ready get these speeds in most areas.

Yep, You ring on 150 (VMP) and pick "leaving us" option and then start to haggle.
Not all CS reps are trained to the same service level.

All 10Mb/s User should get.

Free Superhub.
Free Engineer to install super hub if you want the engineer (can be quicker than postal)
Free "no fee upgrade".

Do not get talked in to 60Mb/s as they will likely charge you extra as it is a different service level...

but a New 12 month contract is required. You are then a Ex 10Mb/s user and now a 30Mb/s user when the super hub is online.
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/07/37.jpg
I could not be bothered to haggle to much so only got that deal.

Sorry should have explained... you need to follow the thread. Disappointed with the delay to my upgrade I called retention to say that £41 per month was too much for 50mb M phone and TV (both not used). He agreed, am now paying £9 less for 60mb (immediate effect) plus replacement hd box being installed next week.

You can try. I could have got 100Mb but it would have cost me more than I was paying. Seemed to be no option for a free upgrade to double speed.

Re: Upgrade delayed massively

delay is beyond a joke lol

I just logged into My.VirginMedia.com

and theres a massive green banner saying,

"Exciting news - we're giving you a free broadband boost to up to 120Mb, the UK's fastest ever widely available broadband!

Our engineers are still working on the fibre optic network in your area to make speeds of 120Mb and upwards possible. We'll be in touch as soon as we're ready to upgrade you"

then it tells you,

"
Your speed upgrade is going to take a little longer

We estimate your area will be ready between: December 2012 and May 2013
"

Free speed upgrade dates changed

Looks like Virgin are not rolling out the free speed upgrades as fast as they said they would. Mine has gone from July to now being between December to May 2013.
Mr Bolt now not on the checker page.
Virgin were quick to send emails to us letting us know the good news that we would be getting free upgrades, not so fast letting us know they can not deliver!

Re: Upgrade delayed massively

Let's all come down to earth. Cynically.

The free upgrade was timed exactly to coincide with the BT Infinity free speed hike. It was pure "mine is bigger than yours" - the game VM constantly like to play. And that plays with your minds. You all (I don't really mean all but you know what I mean) want this free upgrade. They bring Usain Bolt to point to the month when your area is in the mox (carefully not saying that's when it's being delivered).

When the hype is over, upgrades have been made to an evidential level, VM can then let the truth out quietly; something they've always known that many old infrastructure areas will take a lot loger to roll out.

IMO, what's worse is that they're doubling the speeds at all. By all means double the infrastructure. We might actually get the originally contracted speeds. Otherwise, with double speeds, we'll be where we were before (some good, some remaining bad).

But still VM will be the fastest in the land and they'll hype this into further over-utilisation.

Just checked my account (wasn't expecting anyting until October because that's what Usain said) and apparently I can upgrade from 20 to 60 now.

If I take this route will I be forced in to a new (12/18mth) contract ?

If there is a new contract, will there come a time when a non-contract upgrade will be offered ?

When it's upgraded automatically it doesn't put you into a new contract I believe.

If you upgrade your speed automatically or pay for a higher tier you do not enter a new contract, however, if you move onto the new Collections then you do start a new 12 month contract, but there will probably be a cost saving to go with it.

That would be me, I'm paying £21.50 for xl20 + £13.90 basic phone which is £3 more than current xl60+basic phone price.

I'm kinda reluctant to move away from my excellent ntl250 modem + linksys router combo to the superhub. Is it possible to move down a tier and keep my current setup or would they force me on docsis 3 gear ?

I got annoyed by this e.g. I was on 50Mb waiting for 100/120 and told to wait an extra 10 months while in other regions people are on 60Mb but paying less than me. So I phoned retentions and got moved to 60Mb, call evenings included in package and approx £5 reduction to bill... also I did not get a new contract as I was very specific with the customer service rep that I didn't want this and they were willing to do the change-over without requiring a new contract.

They however refused to do the free 100Mb upgrade in my area (M22 - Manchester) that's why I had to move to 60Mb instead.

Not sure if this will help anyone, but they moved my 10 To 30meg upgrade to march 2013, so i gave them a call and asked for a new superhub (Just wanted it because our router was dead)
they said, I can have a superhub sent out to me if I enter into a new 12 month contract, i agreed(as the current contract is removed and replaced with a 12 month one)

I got the superhub, and as it comes with a new contract, I automatically got 30meg!

AND even better, the speed is STILL doubled in march 2013 to 60meg!
