New Router help
My old Netgear WGT624v3 is diying, it sometimes needs a reboot to get devices to reconnect.
So I need a new one that that will be able to connect to the new super hub that I will get when our service is upgraded to the 60MB. I'm not to worried about cost but don't want to pay silly money, and ideally something that is easy to connect without any hastle. (Not with ADSL, needs to be able to connect to VM cable network) (min 4 RJ-45s) Ideally from somewhere like PC World, Currys, Comet etc, so I can get one today/tomorrow after work It needs to be able to connect to the following (not all at the sametime) 3 Laptops 1 Netbook 2 tablets 1 Xbox 360 1 Blu-Ray player 5 smart phones 3 Nintendo DSi XLs |
Re: New Router help
I'd say Asus N56/N66 but those stores don't stock the router. Highly recommended though so if your willing to order online and pay express delivery or something then go for it.
If its got to be in store today then go for Linksys. future proof yourself with a simultaneous dual band high end product. I'd give Asus a try if I was you. The reviews those routers are getting are very good. Linksys seems to have done something to the firmware or some crap on the newer high end product(s). |
Re: New Router help
Unfortunately the ASUS only has one RJ-45, and there are some pieces of kit that need to be wired.

Re: New Router help
Wow talka bout easy to connect.
Just plugged in, logged in via my tablet, and set the SSIDs and passwords. The DSi caused a minor problem, but pressing the WPS button and they connected. All devices started with a lowish power level then they all went to max levels. I have plugged a USB HDD into it and I can stream HD to all my devices. |
Re: New Router help
hows range and speeds? and have you tested in placed where connectivity could cause problems (far away etc.)
|
Re: New Router help
Range is good I can go to the top of my hill and still get a good signal some 50+ foot away.
The only problem I have at the moment is that my HTC Desire S & Asus Transformer Tf101 tablet cannot see the 5Ghz part. 5Ghz is set up and broadcasting. ---------- Post added at 19:45 ---------- Previous post was at 19:41 ---------- The SSIDs are different. ---------- Post added at 19:51 ---------- Previous post was at 19:45 ---------- Is "N" 5Ghz? |
Re: New Router help
those two don't support 5GHz
|
Re: New Router help
That explains it, I thought N was 5ghz only, because my lappy doesn't support N but sees the 5ghz
|
Re: New Router help
have a look in your adapter/cards properties-advanced tab
|
Re: New Router help
Hom3r have you or are you going to test running Tomato on it?
|
Re: New Router help
I don't see the need ATM.
I tested the speed test on my wifi, with my old one I hit around 15meg, on the new router I hit 19.5 meg, not bad on a 20meg connection :D |
Re: New Router help
20megs  i thought you was on one of the higher tiers.
Asus should be working on a firmware upgrade right now. Theres bugs and the 2.4GHz band needs to be worked on. This after they stabilized the router with the current firmware. in other words the router isnt functioning as good as it should be. |
