Virgin media retentions suck.

I have been a long standing customer over 5 years. I have had the top package for the majority of this time. I decided I wanted to take away my broadband and phone to BT. So I gave Virgin a call, and they said because I was not taking anything else I got NO discount at all. I wanted to keep XL with Sky HD as well as the sports and movies. I was told this was going to cost me £78 a month with a TiVO and V+HD.

I feel very let down, surely they can offer me some kind of discount? I would not want much, say £10 a month?

I've been going to McDonalds on and off for 20 years and can you believe this morning they still made me pay the full price for my Sausage and Egg Mcmuffin?

My local pub is the same, still charging me full price for my pint..An Eon still make me pay the going rate for electricity....Actually now I think I don't get a loyalty discount on my council tax either..STRIKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Stupid comparison, you obviously don't work in sales like I do and know how the system works.

did you work out how much BT plus Sky would cost or even a full Sky package fibre bb telephone and all?

Re: Virgin media retentions suck.

Discounts revolve around you taking all 3 services, you remove one and it all comes clattering down a bit like https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2012/06/6.gif

Did it not occur to you that VM are a business that need to bring in revenue for the services that they supply? If you want to reduce your services from VM and expect them to be sympathetic then frankly, you are not in control of your faculties.

what about a complete sky deal?

Peter_ 18-06-2012 22:15

Re: Virgin media retentions suck.

Every package with discount from Virgin Media has always involved taking all 3 services so you would not get a discount for just television as it does not fit in with their advertising and could even lead to loss of revenue, never going to happen and any salesman would recognise that as a wise decision.

In fact you can even get a mobile phone discount from Virgin Mobile if you take all 3 services.

They are offering discounts of £40+ a month to have the top package. It has nothing to do with my faculties, they would not be in business if the profit margins were not healthy enough. I take offense to that kind of attitude.

Sky offer my Sky Connect, I cannot get fibre where I live. There is no way I am downgrading my internet to 8mb.

Are you suggesting that they are profiting from my internet connection? That could only possibly be the case if they are targetting advertising via something like phorm. Should I be concerned for my privacy?

As to the phone, all my calls that I make are with my unlimited calls. I use Saynoto0870 for anything that is not, or I don't ring it.

My apologies if I appeared to be unsympathetic. Retentions have been excellent for us on every occasion that we have dealt with them. You could try calling them again.

They won't do anything for a TV only account.

However if the OP were to discuss what they would offer to keep all 3 services - rather than take their phone and BB to BT, I'm sure they might have options

Their advertising and discount model has always been based around 3 services and a quick browse of their website and any forum will also conform that is the way they work.

As for phorm why would you bring that into this thread as that has no standing on how they run their business regards giving discounts.

Remember that virtually every webpage you open puts a cookie onto your system in order for that webpage to work regardless of who supplies your broadband.

As a salesman you must realise that no one is the exception and they cannot have what is not on offer.

You do realise that SKY and BT would use the same phone line which would be installed by a BT engineer so no difference there.

What system? Pricing structures to give perceived discounts for multiple services?

You want a single service discount? Get gas and elec get a discount, take phone/bb/tv get a discount. Buy Main course, starter, after and drink..get a discount.

Get a foot treatment, sauna, finger nails done get a discount. Get a wash cut blowdry get a discount....thats how it works for SERVICES.

But if Sky don't offer you fibre that means Bt can't either, because it's the same cable???

Yep, the line from your house to the exchange is the same if you have BT or Sky. But once at the exchange you hop on to Sky's superior 100gb class leading fibre network.

Some people don't seem to realise Sky have more actual Fibre optic cable laid in the UK than VM.

However your area has to be enabled for Infinity before you can get Sky Fibre, so if you can't get one you can't get the other

True but then your area also has to have cable laid for you to get cable. The difference being BT is an on going thing, cable isn't. Hopefully cable gets a big money buyout by a company that invests big sorts out the existing infrastructure then looks to expand. Here's hoping hey although it would probaly mean UK job cuts.

That's irrelevent to this thread

The OP specifically said

So that is what we were discussing

Actually have to agree with you for once, if they gave everything away on the cheap, there will be no business left

Virgin Media are expanding cable, they've recently cabled the uncabled areas of Southampton and plan to expand to cover an additional 50,000 homes, they've also teamed up with fujitsu to cover homes in areas difficult to cover and that scheme is ongoing, they will provide Digital TV and Broadband over that infrastructure, so, cable is ongoing at the moment. Smallworld Media also applied to local authorities to expand its network within its own coverage area around 2010.

I only ever call when there's a better deal [for me] elsewhere or even for new VM customers, which isn't very often. Say, every 3 or 4 years
