Sky's Footballs rights (EPL)

There is to be a press conference at 5pm today to announce who got what in the football rights auction. A lot of rumors of a"twist"or "surprise" in who won what.

Did ESPN go for more than Sky? Did AL Jazeera out bid Sky, if they bid at all? Have Al Jazeera replaced ESPN?

Personally I think most likely result is the Sky/ESPN split everyone expected with no real twist or surprise. Worst case is a 3rd provider as I'm at my limit as to what I will spend on TV/Phone/BB.

---------- Post added at 15:10 ---------- Previous post was at 15:00 ----------

Sky's share have gone from -0.22% down to +0.50% up.

---------- Post added at 15:38 ---------- Previous post was at 15:10 ----------

Sky's shares now +10.00 (1.46%)

---------- Post added at 15:51 ---------- Previous post was at 15:38 ----------

Sky shares now up 12p 1.75%, we can probably assume they have a good chunk of the EPL rights.

Yes, I can imagine the colour being a tad distracting :)

Are you going to take it off when Portugal knock you out on Sunday ;).

This group is a bit of a nightmare now isn't it. I'm expecting Germany to take a point tonight, and Portugal (my team!) to knock you guys out on the weekend.

Yup, ESPN have no more EPL and BT starting a new Sports channel probably to stick on Youview if it ever launches. I can see a £2 rise on Skysports. They are now paying £750 million a year in stead of the £540million they were paying.

More significantly BT's package includes 18 of the 38 first-choice picks.

Well with the old Prem Plus model subscribers had to pay £75 a season.

Well remember Prem Plus was a few years ago so the price with inflation now would be around £100 a season.

I'm actually quite upbeat about this result , BT will make their games available on all platforms , a PPV basis would suit me and could end up saving me money as I now pay ESPN £9.00 a month.

Or switch to BT...and get SKY sports

Got to be tempting...but wait and see.

it has put me off going back to Virgin..as having ESPN free was always an attraction

And how do you not know that BT and Virgin might do the same type of deal as it would be in both their interests.

I agree BT's product can only improve however they currently don't offer sport in HD so I'll stick with Sky for the time being , ESPN free on VM was always a pulling factor for me but this deal looks to have jeopardised that.

Well lets see what the forthcoming months bring before we start to come to conclusions on what might unravel.:)

Its not in BT's interest to give VM a discount on the BT football. BT own a platform they want you to swtich from virgin to their platform, they hope this football they have will make you want to do that.
