Euro 2012
England squad named

Re: Euro 2012
As per the other thread. Downling is a bizarre choice and Carroll ahead of Sturridge and Crouch is also odd.

Re: Euro 2012
In my opinion it should be Richards, Carrick, Adam Johnson and Sturridge in. Milner, Downing, Barry and Carroll out. Jordan Henderson should be nowhere near the standby list as well.

---------- Post added at 18:51 ---------- Previous post was at 18:36 ---------- Bendtner scored vs Brazil in their friendly. Brazil won 3-1. hope Bendtner carries on scoring.. we could do with more interest in him. Germany 5-3 down vs the Swiss ;) |

Re: Euro 2012
No..but dear boy..I support scotland..my country.
If there was a team UK..or Gb..i might support it. I do for athletics. Or team Europe..I do for ryder cup. But football?..I support Scotland (even when they are dire..and that seems always), then all bets off on who I support after that. I like dutch...sometimes spain...but to be honest..I am amused at the "England will win easy brigade" so can't help but support other countries that play england :D ---------- Post added at 21:10 ---------- Previous post was at 21:08 ---------- Oh..i am half American..1/4 polish...so sometimes switch allegiance...but that's allowed ---------- Post added at 21:11 ---------- Previous post was at 21:10 ---------- take that back about usa...they can be a bit arrogant too..though I get amused that they seem to want to pick up the ball and throw it...or used too :D |
Re: Euro 2012
Its seems we are reverting back to the old England way of giving the ball away too cheaply again.:(
|
Re: Euro 2012
Friendly game..means nothing...whether england win 5-0...or 1-0..or even lose
My rule..happy to lose the nothing games..as long as I win the something games So roll on Euros...that is when it gets interesting :D |

Re: Euro 2012
I was quite impressed with Andy Carroll's all round contribution tonight.
I think Hodgson will have a problem of who to pick between Carroll and Wellbeck (if fit). Whatever happens, improvement of the all round team performance is a must, I know it was only a friendly. |
Re: Euro 2012
Friendlies are meaningless in terms of judging the team as a whole or how they will do in Poland. Too many changes, manager trying different things, the other side also experimenting.
|
Re: Euro 2012
Uk was a joke again as usual... what a shame. they never learn!
|
Re: Euro 2012
England had a great oppotunity to breed new blood for the Euro's and this is what is needed, they said that they are missing Rooney.
England does not run on one player, Hodgson has to kick sum butt if we are to be a force in the Euro's, on tonights performance we were poor. It may be a friendly, but we are going to meet better quality teams in the Euro's and l cannot see us doing well - same old England, new manager same old crap. |
Re: Euro 2012
Our previous game was better under Stewart. I'm not starting the Roy thing, I personally support him but like before I want to see good footy.

I don't see how we can learn. The same players won't massively improve. Expectations out of line with the actual quality of our players.

I can see the game plan that was set out last night, get the early goal and then defend and keep the lead which is something England can never do is keep the lead after scoring so early.

Funny enough..I have had media training for my job.
But...I am a Scot...most of us know that our team is crap (oh crap, can I say crap here?) Don't judge scots by the lager louts...they tend to breed with each other...eventually they will dissipate from the inbreeding..or being too drunk to be able to get it up (can I say"get it up" here :D) |

Mandanda Debuchy, Rami, Mexes(c), Evra Cabaye Gourcuff, Nasri Ben Arfa, Benzema, Menez |

Re: Euro 2012
Nothing to frighten Spain or Germany looking at those squads l am afraid.
|
Re: Euro 2012
The French squad is pretty good. Not at the same level of the German and Spanish teams but still, there is quality there, and they might be a good outside bet.
|
Re: Euro 2012
Has anyone put any pre-tournament bets on?
I've gone for a Germany/France final @ 28/1 Germany to win/Muller top scorer @ 66/1 Benzema top scorer @ 20/1 And a couple of big outside bets as well. |

It's a tough group. First priority is to make it out. After that, anything can happen, but the good thing about facing Germany in the group stage is that you can't meet them again until the final. |
Re: Euro 2012
I don't often agree with balotelli, but appreciate the stance
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...acially-852987 It needs more than just a player walking out, other teams should do same. it would embarrass the football hierarchy |
Re: Euro 2012
I appreciate the stance as well, but I can't help thinking he's just substantially increased the odds of racist chants should Italy meet Poland or Ukraine.
|
Re: Euro 2012
yeah agreed, nations as 1 should walk out not just players.
Fifa and UEFA are a joke. Why England gets shafted is beyond me. All to do with the national squad underachieving? so they give Wembley a go because English clubs do very well in Europe. What about selected national hosts, are they all winners or squads that have gone far? |

Re: Euro 2012
Did anyone watch Panorama last night about the racism in Poland and Ukraine? If you didn't it is worth a watch. I will be very suprised if the tournament goes without incident and i am not suprised in the slightest that the families of Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain have said they will be staying at home. It seems that the Polish and Ukranian FA's have turned a blind eye to the racism in league matches in recent years, but have started to impose bans and fines on clubs recently as the tournament approaches, as they have realised they may come out looking very bad. Looking at some of the stuff that goes on in and around the stadiums, it would put me off going, i can't imagine any black or asian fans wanting to go if they saw the programme. The thing that suprised me the most was that it wasn't a minority of fans being racist, it was large number of them at the matches shown in the programme...
|
Re: Euro 2012
Yeah, I saw part of it, and it was pretty scary stuff. Stewards didn't seem very interested in intervening when thugs turned on people supporting the same side but sporting the wrong skin colour.

Instead of worrying about getting a result...focus on playing good football Too often the result means more the the game, it should be the other way around. Good football should get you a result, not get a result even if it means playing negatively If Spain or Brazil won the cup..playing dire football..would their fans think it was great? |
Re: Euro 2012
Why on earth do people keep complaining about it could be bad on England, when a player gets injured.
If Rooney gets injured, does that mean the Euro's are over for England. Of course not, its a chance for young blood to come in. We cannot rely on the 'old guard' to play for this country, we have to have young blood and this is there chance. |

Then again, you can put too much emphasis on attractive football.
Holland: three times losing finalists of the World Cup, one time winner of the European Cup. They are a bit more business-like these days. Here's hoping... |

sorry Colin i thought you was being sarci lol
agreed play good footy. |
Re: Euro 2012

Or do you really think that Chelsea could repeat what they did based on the football they played? Being critical is not same as criticism, and does not mean I have "sour grapes". why would I? I am not a Barcelona or Bayern Madrid fan boy. My remarks are not based on being jealous, and if you look at previous posts, I wanted Chelsea to win. But that doesn't mean I want negative football to be rewarded. And to be honest, i get bored watching Barcelona win always, but that is down to wanting competition. Give me a Swansea who plays flowing football and doesn't win always to a...hmm..liverpool? Wait..they don't win always either :D. (you make it too easy sometimes lol) |
Re: Euro 2012
At least Jordan Henderson has proven he is an ideal replacement for Lampard - he can't play with Gerrard either...
