Vigin Media 3D
hi, new to the forum so go steady.
we got a 3D tv at christmas, and we are really impressed. i know theres 3D content on the on demand channel, but what we would really love is a 3D channel like skys. does anyone know if there will be one in the future? ive been with virgin over 10 yrs,the ntl days, but im getting pressure of the kids and missis to get sky for their 3D channel, which im not to keen to do. sorry if there is already a thread, but i searched but couldent find one. and if there isnt maybe people could put there 3D on demand reviews or news in here.it minght save us some time and money thanks. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Currently only on demand 3D available. During the Olympics there will be a Eurosport 3D channel and 3D broadcasts.
|
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Also, some 3D TV's will change non 3D pictures into 3D pictures and there are 3D discs available that are a lot better value than the Sky channel.

Re: Vigin Media 3D
my tv as the 2D to 3D option, and its pretty good on the right type of programe. i tend to use it when watching football or programes like the blue planet.
ive also signed up to lovefilm, to try and keep them quiet. but you would think virgin would make their own 3D channel to rival skys. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
There isn't enough content just now to warrant having a proper channel.
Thats why VM went down the VOD route for 3D. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
I'd love to see the football in 3D, but i suppose that'll never happen with $ky pulling the strings...

Another route you could take for 3D content would be to buy the Roku media player that we got a couple of weeks ago. There is a free channel in there called 'Wealth TV 3D'. It is a live channel but also wth lots of VOD content. The Roku is only £49.99 or £99.99 for a model with more features. http://www.roku.com/uk |
Re: Vigin Media 3D

Re: Vigin Media 3D
Most of the 3D content is pants.
|
Re: Vigin Media 3D
that roku player is it the same thing as the stuff you get on a smart blu-ray player as ive got one of those but no 3D channel.
|
Ive used the YouTube app for 3D stuff a few times recently.

Re: Vigin Media 3D
Hi there similar inquiry but at the moment i have a 3d tv and the standard old style virgin box with the L tv package i see on the virgin sales site that i can get the standard HD box for a one of £20 payment which will give me access to 3d content, but i can find no mention of what i can get,it would look like it would be through the on demand service but i cant see any 3d option programs in the on demand i can view,so the question i have is what is available apart from films and sport, not interested in the films unless i can fill the screen with the image which cant be done with 3d dvds,i know the purists will jump on me and say i should watch films in the format they where made but sorry i have a 51inch tv and want to watch a 51inch image.

Re: Vigin Media 3D
3D content is only on the XL package not L. That could be why you cannot see the 3D content which is mainly documentaries.
By the way, welcome to the forum. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Trevor i read this as it was available on all there packages

---------- Post added at 05:03 ---------- Previous post was at 04:57 ---------- As for 3D sport,is Rugby in the Olympics? because it says this on the Virgin advert 'You'll see every goal, try, or point scored right in front of you in HD 3D'. That's Football,Rugby and Tennis as far as I'm concerned. Or could it be Sky Sports 3D is on the way? http://recombu.com/digital/news/sky-...on_M10335.html |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
:erm: Or Beach Volleyball and Synchronised swimming?
:D Don't you need HD active to see the 3D offerings? |

Eurosport 3D paceholder is now on channel 523
It must mean they are showing the French Open |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Well sorted it although there advertising would lead you to believe different normal 3d is only available on xl looking at on demand xl lists HD and 3D, L lists HD and not 3d.i guess you could get 3d films with L but didn't want them.

Re: Vigin Media 3D
Well the tennis is looking good on Eurosport 3D
|
Re: Vigin Media 3D
awesome
|
Re: Vigin Media 3D
The tennis does look impressive. I have been told however that football looks almost like a video game ; never seen it myself so can't comment.
Does anybody know if the Steps concert will be available via Sky Anytime in 3D? It's advertised as being in 3D on Sky Living, however, I presume only Sky subscribers will be able to watch the 3D version? (It's the girlfriend that wants to know, honest..:D ) |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
how longs this eursport 3D channel on for?
and your right the tennis does look good and so do the add breaks, made me even more tempted to join sky. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
It's on for 2 weeks then there will be nothing at all until the Olympics start on Friday July 27th.

Re: Vigin Media 3D
Whilst in no way begrudging people who want to the opportunity to watch content in 3D, won't you soon get bored of watching something you don't enjoy - in this case tennis - solely because it's in 3D?
Or, is it actually the case that 3D is giving people a way to enjoy something they don't like in other formats? Is it a gimmick, or is it a really important way of opening up certain things to a new audience. Before I read Jodash's post I'd have said the latter. If you're watching a sport you don't enjoy because of the format it's displayed in then I'm no longer sure. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Yes, good 3D coverage of the tennis. One thing that did look odd to me was that in long shots the players on the baseline looked a bit compressed like matchstick figures. Is this to do with the 3D technology or do I need a trip to Specsavers!

Think the gimmick aspect is when you first get 3D then you may be tempted to watch anything just because its 3D but that soon wears of,unless you bought a 3D tv when you didnt need a new one then that particular part of the tvs ability may have only added £100 to what you would have spent any way so to me its a use it when i think it will add to my enjoyment, which isnt that often on virgin L package, after saying that certain films i would watch in 3D conversion its not 3D but it adds a bit of depth |

Sorry to bump an old thread, I can't seem to find any of the free 3D content such as the documentaries etc.
All that seems available is a small choice of 3D on demand movies. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
The trouble with 3D Paul it is still very much a small niche product and as such there is not a lot of content available currently and in my own personal humble opinion l cannot see this changing.

I do agree with Den that 3D in the home is somewhat of a niche product. 3D TV only went on sale in the UK on the 22nd April 2010. The price of the first TV released was £1,799, a pair of the 3D glasses cost £150, and a 3D Blu-ray DVD player was around £350. As prices continue to drop, uptake increases. Last July market research firm GfK confirmed 1.3 million 3D TV sets had been sold in the UK. That's almost 87,000 sets per month since launch. Current estimates suggest 3D TV sales in the UK have passed 2 million however not everyone is specifically buying their set because of the 3D option. What this means is in British households around 6 million people have access to a 3D TV set. Latest figures from GfK suggest 39% of all sets sold accross Europe in the past 12 months include 3D. I have a 3D TV and enjoy SKY 3D. I don't watch the channel everyday but it does provide a different viewing experience. On Christmas Day I had my parents and brothers down for dinner. Afterwards we sat down together and watched a 3D programme on BBC about dinosaurs. My brother often pops over to watch Premiership football in 3D and the Masters Gold currently in 3D is amazing. In the past month I've enjoyed Men In Black 3D and The Avengers 3D. I've also noticed that kids like the 3D gimmick. Whilst 3D is not for everyone, there is a demand for it. There should be more 3D options available from Virgin, BT, Talk Talk, Freeview and even the BBC. ---------- Post added at 13:03 ---------- Previous post was at 12:42 ---------- Quote:
Most months SKY broadcast between 4 to 6 Premiership games in 3D. They also cover other events one or twice per month such as darts, boxing, golf or rugby. We also know that F1 3D should be with us real soon too. SKY also produce other programmes in 3D like Got to Dance, concerts and other one off programmes. SKY must produce around 20 to 30 hours worth of new content each month. It doesn't sound like much but the 3D channel only broadcasts for about 12 hours per day plus SKY imports lots of 3D content from America too like the series How it's made and National Geographic documentaries. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
According to BBC there isn't that much demand though.
http://www.3dfocus.co.uk/3d-news-2/3...-falling/12637 ...the BBC was very excited when they started the trial but that each time a 3D show was broadcast, the ‘spike’ got lower, despite the growth in potential audiences. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Its been going that way for a while apart from Sky's content.
|
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Any chance BT sport will broadcast anything in 3D?

BT sport won't actually be filming anything... Also I know people with freeview HD 3D tvs who are not aware that the bbc sometimes broadcasts in 3D, they all think that only sky does, as for sky's figures being low maybe they should make it easier to obtain?

That's sort of along the lines of what was thinking, but unless they shout from the rooftops about it people won't be aware.
|
Re: Vigin Media 3D
3D really isn't taking off and past formats of home entertainment tend to have taken off by now....
|
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Well I'm on the verge of signing up to sky's New entertainment plus pack which includes the 3d channel.for £31.50 a month which I think is pretty good.
I'm currently out of contract and wanting to keep the internet and phone but change the tv. What I'm trying to do is compare this sky pack and my XL virgin media pack in regards as to what channels they have to see what's what. |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
It's actually got worse now,I checked last night and they have even taken off the documentarys they had on in 3d,all they've got is a few animation films.WHY!!!
|
Re: Vigin Media 3D
And you won't get movies and sports on that 3D package with $ky unless you pay for the top tier.
|
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Quote:
Why do people use terms like $ky or Verminmedia? Very childish. I did enjoy Manu-AstonVilla last night in 3D. But you do get some great 3D on the normal Sky package now, |
Re: Vigin Media 3D
Well I think I'd take out the entertainment pack plus and movies so that would be £42.50 that can't be bad.
