TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
Hi Everyone This is my first post so please be gentle :)
I have bought the above router and tried last night to connect it to the super hub (in modem mode) it all seemed to go ok until the set up CD tried to connect to the internet and it kept coming up as failed with the symbol in the tool bar had an exclamation mark saying there was no internet connections. Would it be possible for somebody to walk me through the set up process or any other tips where i was going wrong? FYI the port on the super hub is ok as i connected the laptop directly to it and it worked fine.. Thanks |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
first of all put that CD back in the box and uninstall anything if may of installed on your system.
Secondly link your computer to the routers via one of the LAN ports. put this into your web browser address bar 192.168.1.1 hit enter and login, the default login for both username and password is admin once logged in find QUICK SETUP and click on it and proceed (press next) WAN Connection type - for VM its Dynamic IP but the auto function should be fine click next setup your wireless security, password. click on WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK then create your own wireless password. you can change your wireless networks name here by changing whats written in the SSID box. your region is UK so change it if its set to anything else. wireless channels will range from 1-13. you can download inSSIDer onto a wireless capable device/Microsoft operated laptop or wifi analyizer onto a phone from the app store. scan your area for wireless networks and note which channel each uses. then set your wireless network to use a channel that isn't in use. then click finish to end the quick install process and then reboot. once the router comes live again power it down manually via power socket. power down your SH and link an ethernet cable to the SHs ethernet port closest to the white cable port to the routers WAN port then power up both. |

Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
You need to reboot the Superhub after having your laptop connected in order to connect the router.

Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
Hi guys,
I bought this router too and I did the exact thing you described thenry and I thought it was all going so well. Unfortunately even though it says I have internet on my routers network it still doesnt work! At the moment I'm connected via my usual VM connection. Hmmm. I will have a play and a tinker and see what happens. ---------- Post added at 00:52 ---------- Previous post was at 00:32 ---------- Setting the superhub to modem mode seems to be the thing people say. I did try that but nothing happened. Then I tried what you said thenry and it all connected fine. I thought it was a browser problem but I cant even log onto webcam chat programs so its something else. |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
I don't fully understand.. could you elaborate

Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
Sorry bud, yes I was a little cagey in my description :)
A few days ago I joined here and posted about the superhub issues that seem to be universal. The message was clear. Get a router and put the SH on modem mode. I got the WR1043ND in the post and hooked it all up following the instructions you posted. Though I cant remember if I put the SH in modem mode beforehand, which might be key (sorry Im not a massive techie). Anyway, after I tried what you suggested to the other chap in this thread things seemed to work. I saw the network, the network status said that internet was functional. Then I went into firefox and any website I went on timed out. So I tried Opera, Chrome, safari, even the horrible IE and no websites would load. Thinking it was a browser issue I then tried other programmes like skype to see if I could log in and that didnt work. So currently, when Im in windows, the networks that appear for me are my VM (which actually still works but only gets speeds of 15-20mbps on speedtest - torrents I get 2MB/sec max) and the router network. Both have excellent signal and both say that internet connection is fine though only the VM one works. I thought also that it was something silly like me not pressing the wireless button on the router but that didnt help either. Im pretty sure Im being dense and there's a small setting I have overlooked. Still, at least VM is working wirelessly on my laptop, but Im paying for a 100 meg line. I thought this router would be my saviour. Well it stil might be. P.S Before I got this router I also got this: 150Mbps Micro Nano Tiny Size Wireless N 802.11n/g WiFi WLAN USB 2.0 Network Adapter Dongle. Quite a mouthful I know. Not sure if thats interfering with things. I've used it since but its not really doing anything. Hope thats cleared things up a little? :) Or convoluted matters. Thanks. |

follow these instructions to put the SuperHub into modem mode > http://help.virginmedia.com/system/s...MER_TYPE=Cable
make sure you link an ethernet cable from the port closest to the white cable input rear of the SuperHub to the blue port rear of the TP Link router then what I posted above.. now below... Quote:

could it be a faulty router? ask for a replacement. could you test the SuperHub in combo mode then direct in modem mode. if that works then the routers shot |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
If I didn't laugh I would cry. Now my vm doesn't work. I'm totally buggered.
I reset the hub, taking it off modem mode. Cant get internet. Tried the router again, nothing. Spent hours trying things. I'm giving up for today. At least my phone internet works. Crikey, what a balls up. No idea what to do next :( |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
could you post your VM SuperHub connection info
google Virgin Media status and check your area for a fault. also call VM support. |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
Ok I'll post some screenshots when I have time. I live in Brighton, which, I've been reading isn't great for vm. Apparently.

If you configure your system as above and get no internet then it's a duff SH or VM's connection. Either way you will have to contact VM. If you do get internet then it's a problem with your cabling or router. |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
Evening chaps. Well my VM connection is working but its pretty slow.
I read on the VM forums that the router might needs a firmware update. ---------- Post added at 00:12 ---------- Previous post was at 00:09 ---------- https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...012/06/108.png |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
what router, the SH? thought you had it in modem mode linked to your router? is the TP Link working now?
did you get any answers for your VM connection fault? |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
Sorry I meant the TP-Link router. I was on the VM forum and read that firmware updates might solve the problem. Ive tried an update via the routers control panel and it reset but I've not noticed any significant change.
Before, I put my SH into modem mode then followed your guidance about how to setup the t-link router. After I did this, although I could see the t-link router and connect to it, something was blocking me from using websites. I cloned my MAC address as part of the setup process, in case it was an ISP issue and that didnt help. So I reset the SH again back to how it was before and then VM connection didnt work either. But it began working again eventually and last night it was fine. Although there was a weird icon in my tray that I hadnt seen before. I will have to get a screenshot of it. The internet worked but its still not what I wanted. I'll try to get some shots for you. What particular details do you need to look at? If only I could transport you here to help :) |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
setup a ping monitor mate and enable ping response in your TP Links router setup. that will help rule out a VM fault.

Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
Try updating your TP Link firmware with DD WRT.
My nt r16 was pretty terrible on it's out of the box firmware but it flies after updating with tomatousb. I suspect the same might apply to TP Links. |

Ive gone on DD WRT and found the router but there's two .bin files, do I need one of them or both? ---------- Post added at 13:21 ---------- Previous post was at 13:20 ---------- Ones a webflash image and the other is called special image. |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
Sorry I have never installed dd-wrt but perhaps this might help.

Thank you sir, I've had a look, seems straightforward. I'm scares to try it incase it ruins my working VM.

I agree it does seem daunting but the first time only took around 10 minutes. I did however make a mistake as the last operation in the sequence was to reset the router and, in my ignorance, I used the reset button when I should have used an 'erase all data in NVRAM' option. The result was that, after a short while, Port Forwarding became unavailable. Just doing the NVRAM thing restored things back to normal. Also with the Asus router there are options to recover your original firmware. I would be surprised if TP Link are any different. |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
Greetings earthlings.
I've managed to get the router to work. I had some help from my girlfriends brother. I cant exactly remember what we did but it works now :) The speeds are the same though which is annoying. Do I risk it all and install DD WRT and possible ruin everything?!! Stay tuned for next weeks show ;) |
Re: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND to superhub
no. if you can just about get your head around the factory software you'll just go loopy with the advanced DD WRT. I'm not ashamed to say it did my heading at first too so you know, if it aint broke don't try fix it.
your speeds, im not sure mate. tell us what your set ups like including PC specs and whatever else is connected trying to max out (specs of those devices too) also post up your SH's connection stats 192.168.100.1 login advanced settings connection (grey column to your left) copy and paste infact buddy reply to all the above in your connection issues thread > http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...on-issues.html |
