BBC Red Button

Really pleased to see BBC News and BBC Sports apps on the red button this morning! A great step forward. Would like to see further BBC interactive options added in time (extra episodes of series etc.), but this is a great start!

Other sports will be added, as will text articles.

Red button does also work on BBC News and most other BBC channels, but will take until tomorrow to be fully rolled out to everyone.

I would of thought the red button would of been like the freeview one and sky with more options and weather etc.Not just the news unless they will add them later??

But a good start virgin.:)

Also the star trek app hasn't launched.:(

It does have "text" news as well as video on my TiVo on the BBC News App :)

Also, does Sky still have a full "text" service? SkyText? I remember it launching years ago and I used to use it when I had Sky...

It just has a few words and thats all DF as on my VHD box it has a full rundown of each story and has different sections for each relevant subject and the news storys shown in that subject.

But people want a text service so they can scroll down and read more on a news story which takes their interest.

Yesterday the "front screen" came quickishly ( sorry no such word but you get my drift). But I got dizzy watching the "ring" go on and on and well you get the picture. Seems to be a bit of a problem (speed I mean ) every time I try ( not that, many times I have to add) to use apps :erm:

Have a look At TiVo help & Support on Virgin Media ( sorry never mastered how to post link. ) I think what we would like will be a long time coming, if I am reading the post correctly :( Pasted it !

I understand. Unfortunately we can't just lift what we have on the v+ boxes as it's a completely different technology so requires a full re-write. Rest assured we haven't stopped working on this app, it's still in progress. What we did want to do though was get a working, useful application out on TiVo and then keep adding things. Had we waited until we were completely finished with it supporting everything, we'd definitely not be live right now.
Cheers

I so agree a LONG way from anything like the finished product. However as with all things what is the perception & what is the reality of what is promised are two different things. The V+ is still a far better platform for delivering this SERVICE!!!!

If I had to guess I reckon it's down to the BBC's desire to have a consistent UI experience across all platforms. Not all other devices that have the News app and will get the Sport app can receive the TV streams, so the BBC haven't included access within the apps yet, whereas they can all access internet video.

From what l know it does not include being shown on the new app at present.

I know more sport will be coming soon on both Sky and BBC but at the minute, no snooker & no Sky Tennis on TIVO...beginning to feel like I'm paying more for less >:(

It's pretty clear from the description as "BBC sport for connected TV" that this app isn't just for TiVo but is in fact probably the future of the BBC red button across all platforms. That simply can't be used as a stick to beat Virgin or TiVo with.

I am not "blaming" Virgin or in fact, the TiVo box for the lack of uses on the red button.
I can point the finger at Virgin for one of the BIGGEST hyp over substance I have seen in years:erm:
However to say that the BBC red button, is coming soon ,here all ready or up and running -however true the bare fact may be . Is very misleading.

Its somewhat like launching a new car with out its engine. Its here, it runs ( if you push it!) .You can play with it ,however its NOT what most sane people expect when told that the car is launched .

Virgin seem to shoot them self's in the foot time & time again :p:

Virgin seem to shoot them self's in the foot time & time again says the above poster...

I do not agree the TIVO box is coming along nicely and is getting better each month.

But its not the FULL package that they advertised it as. MY garden is coming along nicely - But it is not Kew gardens!:p:

I quite like TiVo but things are not appearing as quickly as i thought they might for the platform,i lsten to radio and LBC had a change around in their schedule a while back it took the TiVo EPG a couple of weeks to catch up.!

I know its radio but for a service we are paying for its still not brilliant looks around for Mr Waring before running off.:D:D:LOL::Sprint:

just on your v+ boxs mate as far as i know

Tivo is not using the BBC Red Button as is standard with every other box. It's a BBC app. And not a very good one.

Not sure what to make of that. Reminds me of someone - but for the life of me can not think whom. If I remember & say - I may ( or not, as the case may be) get sued !!! :p:

Another thing l am disappointed with in the BBC apps is the lack of a weather section as l am sure that there are quite a few people who check for this on the old Virgin boxes.

It is SOMETHING that the BBC still have first rights to. So it gets pushed :D

You do not see the Olympics being PUSHED that much on other channels as on the BBC ,it was even plugged in the weather forecast today :dozey:
