Samsung Galaxy S3
Any know when the release date for this is? My upgrade is soon and i want to move from iOS to Android and i have seen the rumored specs of this and i want it
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
No idea on the dates as they range through out the year, but is this what it will look like, looks pretty smart but i hate how phones seem to be going to 4.7in which i think is far too big for the pocket, unless the form factor is the same as a 4.3in phone.

WANT IT NOW!!!!!!! http://www.samsung.com/uk/gs3/index.html# |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
I really hate how phones are getting bigger and bigger. 4.3in on my sensation is about the right size for my pocket.
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
I looked at the initial reports...I will stick to my galaxy nexus
The nexus has a 1,750mAh battery, and ICS manages battery life quite good..I charge once a day. It has dual core. The new samsung has quad core, and 2100 battery, and quad core uses battery better. That alone might tempt me, if I hadn't of bought the nexus. These days, battery consumption (and having a pure android) is my big criteria. So this phone does it, and I think that this phone won't play around with too much add ons to the android system...so if I was buying now..this would be the one. |

I cant wait for it. I have had an iPhone 3G and at moment have an iPhone 4 and i really want the S3 as looks a great phone and is a change from iOS

Bit disappointing really. They haven't 'pushed' it much beyond what was there already. There is no standout 'wow' factor, even the design apes the Galaxy Nexus. Might have expected too much...

Personally, I don't like the curvy bar of soap look of it.......:(

Personally I like the larger format in a smartphone, it makes doing the 'non-phone' things with it much easier (surfing, reading the e-version of todays paper, looking at a spreadsheet I need to show work client - the reasons I bought a smartphone). I do lust after a Note (not enough to shell out more money tho'), but I recognise that as a mere woman, I do have the advantage of carrying a bag around with most of the time to carry it in. In fact, the larger format is an advantage. It doesn't get lost in the bottom of my bag, so I can actually find it to answer before calls get transferred to voicemail. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
Its plastic again so much for the ceramic rumour. Its only an 8 meg camera rumours had it at 12 meg. 1 gig ram rumours had it at 2. Always going to be Quad core although this is a total waste of time you will run out of ram before you utilise all 4 cores. Touchwiz again even though rumors had a no skin option but no ( I know you can install launchers so no biggie I guess) No Amoled plus display only what they tout as HD
The rumoured device is much better than the actual device this is more like a Nexus 2 skinned not impressed at all . the Galaxy II flies if you have one there is no need to upgrade IMO and chances are there will be a Galaxy IV in 12 to 18 months ---------- Post added at 10:34 ---------- Previous post was at 10:30 ---------- thing is also you can get the SGSII for a steal now on contracts so that might be a money saving option |

where did you get this info?Because the Super AMOLED PLUS is a Samsung design so if they were using that then they would just call it that wouldn't they? they are calling this something else that does not make sense. It does not mean its not the case just why 2 different names?

Well I ordered one from carphone warehouse last night as the first 1000 orders got a free galaxy tab 10.1 and they still had some going this morning.
However at 10.30 this morning I got an email to say my order was cancelled but no explanation why!! Raging! Have the GS2 but the S3 looks amazing. ---------- Post added at 18:27 ---------- Previous post was at 18:25 ---------- Quote:

Though I admit having thought 4.3" might be too big when I first got it, it ended up nothing of the sort. Fit into every pocket far more easily than the 3.7" HTC I had before it. I highly doubt the additional 4.5mm width of the S3 is going to make the slightest bit of difference. That said since you women "cheat" with your handbags, it might even be feasible to get a 7" tablet with a mobile connection. Quote:

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
I ordered it at about 10pm on Thursday, still totally gutted they canceled and wont tell me why or even tried to call to sort it out first.

I must say it would have been worth the upgrade to get the free tablet fair play gas for bagging one

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
I really want one, I'll get one next year when my contract is over, the s2 is still amazing
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
An excellent phone, but is it wise to jump from the S2 or the Note into an 18/24 month contract? I don't think so.
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
I personally wouldn't have - but I have two contract upgrades this month and had to do something with them (got my S2 on a 12-month contract last year). As mentioned, I think the S3 is a lot more incremental upgrade than the S2 was, and not really any single compelling reason to get one if you already have an S2.
If you're on an S1 or other device of the same generation, then of course the difference will be much much bigger. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
Ive placed my order with O2 store and collect it on release day if i get time if not i will be going to get it on 30th May
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
I have the option to get the S3 although I'm still on a long contract.
But I cant honestly see why I would want to go from an S2 to the S3. More real estate yes. But faster than an S2 to make a difference? I doubt it. I have seen benches on Utube (Nenamark & Quadrant) for HTC One X which is a quad & it is no faster than my phone. Also how many apps are optimized for dual core let alone a quad? |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
This is actually a concern I have with Android.
I know from past experience that Apple have been very good at encouraging people to use the hardware in their devices to it's fullest. Right from encouraging people to use the accelerometer (something which Nokia failed to do with the N95) through to the retina display, bluetooth support etc. Samsung have added a lot of nice features to this phone (display res, fast start camera, quad core CPU etc), but how effective are they at persuading the app developers to use it? From talking to friends with extensive experience in parallel programming, it's relatively easy to code for a dual core CPU. When you increase the amount of cores beyond two, though, coding gets a lot harder. As such, I don't think there will be many apps that make full use of all four cores. That also occurs in desktop OSes, but with desktop OSes, you are likely to be running applications in the background that will make use of the extra processing power. People tend not to multitask in that way on phones. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
Ordered my GS3 last night from Phones 4U on Vodafone. Free phone for £36 a month. Including a free official case and a 32Gb mem card. Can't wait
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
Don't want an S3 - but I'm thinking of getting an S2 so I'm holding out until the prices drop as the newer version comes out :)
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
I have now got the day of work when it comes out so i can get it on launch day. If im awake i might even go to O2 store for 8am. The contract i want i get the phone for free of i can pay £20 for the phone and get a slightly better contract at same price, oh and hen i will also buy a case for it.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
Think its in June time all the shops are now advertising and you can now 'pre-order' so shouldn't be to long.. anyone getting one?
I love my iPhone to much really... you think its gonna be better? |

It's being released on the 30th May, I have ordered and will be getting mine delivered on that date.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
Not quiet. There are not apparent delays with the white model, however its seems that there has been a large quality issue with the pebble blue model and the hyper glaze coating has been coming off a bit too easily.
Still expecting my white 16Gb to arrive tomorrow though. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
There's delays with one colour because they can't get the plastics on the back right, in this case not the glaze but apparently they sent the wrong designs to the manufacturer.

Jeez the S3 is huge, I sometimes wished my HTC Sensation was a tad smaller but I'm just about getting used to its size now. But the S3 is way to big to carry around for me to even consider one. They'll be iPad sized phones sooner or later at this rate.
Nice bit of kit though if the battery power can handle it. |

It's perfectly easy to carry around.
What's hard is actually using it with one hand. |

Anyone that ordered a blue one from O2 have you received tem? I aks as i have rang 2 different stores near me and they both say they dont have them, and only have the white ones. 1 store says they wont have the for a few days and the other store says they have been told they are not getting them in at all.
---------- Post added at 09:20 ---------- Previous post was at 09:17 ---------- Another link about the Pebble Blue delay. Seems its a world wide delay http://www.reghardware.com/2012/05/2...le_blue_delay/ |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
What is it with people reposting what I've already said?
Yes there's a delay. All blues are delayed indefinitely. I already quoted that article yesterday. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
Calm down mate its just a question. Had a phone call from O2 just a in ago they do confirm that its the blue models. The delay is with all networks they say. The have very limited number of white ones as well but they are for the people that reserved the white one. Looks like my reservation will still be on list for a bit longer. Looks like samsung really did underestermate the demand for the phone
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
Well they say at full capacity (without any cockups) their manufacturing can produce 5 million a month, and they exceeded 9 million pre-orders halfway between announcement and GA (so presumably about 20 million pre-orders by the time it was actually supposed to be available).

ICS is very nearly there now but not quite, Still as the android versions improve I'm sure the accessibility will too. But it's worth noting this while choosing your next phone. |

Galaxy S2 had a plastic back cover, so did the Galaxy S, so does the HTC One X.
The S3's only direct competition right now and all its predecessors have plastic back covers, why would you expect any different? |

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3
It may be plastic, or rather a varient of it, infact the same that the One X is made from but once it is on the phone its solid and doesn't feel cheap at all.
