Warning over co-codamol tablets

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-17487432

Quote:

The UK medicines regulator has issued a warning after the wrong strength of tablets was put into some packets of the painkiller co-codamol.
Some packs in batch LL11701, expiry date of September 2014, which should contain 8mg/500mg strength tablets have higher strength 30mg/500mg tablets.Wockhardt UK Ltd, which makes the medicine, is recalling the batch.
Quote:

Ian Holloway, MHRA head of the Defective Medicines Report Centre said: "If you have a packet of the affected medicine, return it to your pharmacist who will replace it.
"If you think you have taken the wrong strength tablet, and in the unlikely event that you feel unwell, speak to your pharmacist or GP promptly."
Neal Patel, pharmacist at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, said: "Patients who may have taken a larger dose of codeine than anticipated may feel more drowsy so should not drive.
"Other possible side effects include confusion, headaches, nausea and vomiting.
I don't suppose that anyone has any of these but it doesn't hurt to be aware if you use the product.

LOL, I would like to agree but the one downside with co-codamol is being bunged up
Just this moment took 2 30/500 for my sciatica :(

I'm on the 30/500's myself so this warning isn't an issue..

Doesn't tend to bung me up but I do have to take them on a full stomach otherwise my tummy growls at everyone for the next couple of hours!!! ;)

Same here, I've never had any side effects from mine other than in my younger days when I used CWE to get more out of them, and then I was itching all over for hours - NEVER again :erm:

I was once prescribed these, and I took them once. NEVER AGAIN.

I had several of the listed side-effects, and I felt utterly weird for several hours. Note to self: never ever do any codeine or codeine-derived drugs. Bad juju, man, real bad.

Yes, I itched, too. Horrible.

As long as the message gets through..it is fairly commonly used product after all.

To help get the message across maybe the thread should be sticky for awhile.

Yes l have to be very wary with the painkillers l take simply because certain painkillers can affect cardiac function in some patients and some painkillers l have taken in the past have not just affected my cardiac function but also my kidney function as well.

co-codamol in my experience defenitly has more downsides than paracetomal and ibrupofen but also is more powerful. I last took them after I had some teeth extracted.

I love my Co-Codamol when I get a really sore back. Work wonders :)

Although I was given dihydrocodeine when I had a kidney infection last year. Only took one and have not been near then ever again! Knocked me out for hours and left me feeling spaced out for a few hours after that! Mega strong.

I agree dont like painkillers refuse to take them even if in really really bad pain I been there still refused.

Doc said to me I must love pain he often tried in vain to get me take co-codamol.

It is my experience that Co-Codamol is absolutely useless at real pain control. It never, ever worked on my migraines. But then nothing worked and my doctor wouldn't give me anything stronger.:(

I can agree with that, I've not found anything that helps with migraines, the only thing that works is Sumatriptan as soon as the symptoms start. I get Aura migraines often and take them as soon as possible when I notice the zigzags.

I've built a tolerance for pain meds over the years, I take 45-75mg (sometimes more) of codeine phosphate with 1000mg paracetamol, or use Buprenorphine or Fentanyl transdermal patches. Half of the time, the symptoms can be more bearable than the remedies. Sometimes you have to go to that happy place with the medication just for a bit of time out. Its finding that balance of what works and what you need to do.

On my packet of Co-codamol it has the warning "Can cause addiction, for three days only".

But the number of tablets (32) is for 4 days worth.

I only take them first thing in the morning, and before I go to bed, between that I take standard paracetamol.

The euphoric feeling you get from opioids can be easily become addictive. The usual non chronic conditions the norm is to only take any form of opioids for 3 days only, normally that will be enough, if not try to have a few days off them before taking again.

Yep dont help me mum she in horrid pain with back its horrid to see her. Suppose though what type of pain how bad it is.

If the pain really strong on there scale say 8 doubt it would ease it. Another thought does the body adapt it becomes less effective more you take. Literally get imune to its ability to absorb pain receptors.

Sorry doc wont prescribe stronger.

I used to meditate think hard on the pain would actually will it away abit. Its stupid as it sounds I actually was able to resolve moderate pain. Higher pain could not sadly. My Doc hated me doing it said you can get addicted to pain start self harm to get rush. Dont know why he would think it he retired now. Surely popping painkillers more likely to get adicted.

I am on some different tabs for another reason but they do take pain away.

I think they called inhibitors damn hurt yourself within minutes brain dont send pain signals. Its like got my own little army of soldiers blockade the masses little pain protesters.:D

Now my old doc would gone spare you get a feeling like being superman like erophia rush pain wont hurt you. Surely if you know you wont feel pain brain fogged out god knows what you would do. Apparantly there risks of suicide on the side effect list:shocked:. Wonder did people actually commit suicide on trials how they get tablets like this through.

It was not for Pain reasons I been subscribed this horror tablet.

I asked if could come off them he said yes if you want hospital be extremely very very poorly. Asked the specialists the same said similar to the doc. Told me not to worry what could happen. The tablets there for reason to prevent my health deterorating:(

yeah.

I didnt get prescribed them for my teeth but had some old ones left from an old prescription. during the day I was taking paracetomal and ibrupofen rotated every 2 hours for the gum pain, and then just took a co-codamel before bed so it allowed me to sleep. so was one a day for 3 days. the 4th day the pain was down enough to not need any.

co-codamel made me very tired and also feel sick.

I have also had other painkillers which I was on for months but apparently can cause heart issues if used too much, my own GP just kept giving me repeat prescriptions yet my parent's GP went mad I was on so long and wrote a letter to my GP.

Codeine works well for me as a painkiller, but I had to stop taking them as the constipation I got with them (which Codeine also is used as treatment for IBS/Diarrhea) was severe.
They can be powerful for people not used to them.
My g/f took a high MG content of Codeine for treatment of her IBS 10 years ago for the first time and she went floppy on me and really tired. I literally had to take her home to bed. She slept for like half a day. lol

All I ever wanted was to be knocked out for the duration of the attack so I could sleep it off.

I get them 100 at a time from the doctor.. A pack though of 100 lasts me about 6 months as I only take them every few days if the pain is bad and I can't sleep
