Fuel poverty to rise to 8.5m, report warns

Quote:

Fuel poverty in England is likely to worsen, despite measures to try to eradicate it, a government-commissioned report has warned.

Some 7.8 million people could not afford their energy bills in 2009, its author, Prof John Hills said. This is due to rise to 8.5 million by 2016

Now can we nationlizse the energy industry?

How would that solve the costs of the energy(eg gas) and the green taxes?

Re: Fuel poverty to rise to 8.5m, report warns

No easy fix but we do need to get off reliance to other nations for our energy.

Would actually try do what scandinavians done waste heat pumped into towns homes to give free heat.

That would reduce our carbon footprint damn sight better than the usual tax the the backside waste of humans out of us.

The tax for green was the most ill conceived piece rubbsih ever to hit the country. There lack of thought to tackling our energy needs our carbon footprint was antiquated.

We need modern thinking to our problem we need to upgrade many homes to 21st century energy needs which reduce our carbon footprint.

Now nothing wrong with the tax if that tax is being used to reduce homes energy waste.

New homes should be built with better modern thinking to its carbon footprint too.

We so backwards to the issue all we doing is nothing which really make difference to how homes heated get homes more self reliant.

It can be done but dont think we got politians who got the brains or desire.

They used the tax as way to raise revenue to ofset other losses. However they slammed people into poverty more will get into it as energy costs will soar.

The problem then they will have to negate the tax which now they waisted could made big inroads to the problem.

Its all alright saying switch off or use laundry during the night etc but what about really making difference as the world ever more reliant to new gadgets we will see it get worse.

Sort the homes out first. That channel 4 programmes was quite eye opener to what is to come. We need to gear the country for that technological revolution.

Its your fantasy you tell us.

But considering there would be no incentive to make money at all just the same as last time they were nationalised, All they will do is crawl to the Government for a handout each year. "please sir i have spent up can i have some more"

I am suggesting it so that we pay less on our utility bills and reduce fuel poverty

I agree the government sold off are best asset so private companies can rip us off. In fact most of the energy companies are not owned by UK industry any more. Why not go that bit more and renationlizse the Transport, Water and Serwage. The government can't run a biusness some one said, of course not as most of them are greedy B's running their own and making money from us.
I like Alan fantisies bring it on

Yes we should renationlize water (except in Scotaland and Northern Ireland where it is the case) and the railways (which despite the sell off, we still fund it and strongly regulate it)
