Looks like a good job - nice salary

Waste of money and nothing more that a attempt to polticise the police, bring back Police Authorities

Will the Mayor of London gain £100k for being a "police commissioner" sine he is taking on the role of that post (London will not gain a elected police commissioner)?

I'm worried that we will end up like the US if we start electing the higher echelons of the police forces. You only have to see how the US justice system works around election time for officials of the justice system.

I prefer a system where those who have been chosen on merit get the top jobs..based on the experience they have acrrued within the system.

Unfortunatly in a system of appointment by un-elected bodies oveseen by more un-elected bodies/commitees et al. The stink of nepotism, funny hand shakes and old boy networks is overpowering and if they screw up there's vertually no way to get them out of office.

I'm sure we could avoid the worst of the American system of elections, I think we manage it with the national and regional government at the moment.

I agree ,i would much sooner see the head of the police answerable to the general public instead of politicians.
One question though ,are the new commissioners replacing a managerial level or adding one ?

The last thing people need is a police that have its hands tied, the whole project would have fallen apart after a major poltical scandal

Disgraceful wages 15k max is more than enough for part time top job. We will get twerps who there for the money better idea. Interview loads unemployed give it to a suitable candidate than ex polititians onto another paycheck scrounging.

I fear what twerp like two jags will do in his area.

You do realise that the prospective candidates for the job will have to reveal all their earnings and it will be the publics descision as to who gets the job ,it won't be given to some ex politician or private school oink automatically, although i daresay that some will apply it will ultimately be a public vote

anyone can try ,Nick Ross(BBC Crime watch) is said to be interested in standing as is Simon Western(Falklands vet).If any politicians wish to stand then they can but i think the general public will not go for that

So anyone who is a member of the minor parties (if they win the vote) might get a high profile position?

Crap idea. Policing shouldn't have any political angle to it, ever.

Cops are barred from belonging to political parties for that very reason, the Police have to be seen as being independent from the government.

yep painfully aware in most areas if not all full ex MP's for more troughing like a rampant pig. I think we should rename it obese westminster most end up fat off the land.

It still dont get why the wages so stupidly high as usual it will be jobs for the ****. What happens when all there is available not worth voting in due to lack diversity. Its often in my ward in council its 2 horse race either lab or con if hate either you goto voted hated party ignore it or abstain spoil. Should 3 main parties forced to post all condidates and selctive 1 other each ward giving diversity.

Maybe the people should take leaf out brucie's millions setup party NONE OF THE ABOVE get in power. Take the power back take on westminister on there own game.

The same thing as a police force going to bed with a major media empire

not as easy you think for starters Cost I certainly not got that sort money to throw down a toilet if did not get in. Wonder how many out there on cableforum could do it too its alot money for risk game.

although you will get it back if you get 5% of the vote share the deposit is returned.

For parlementary and local councils its £500

On top of that is your warchest canvassing required for the election so you talking possibly even on the cheap £100 on your own but you need some volunteers leaflets...

Its not cheap I know someone who done it said great experience but too costly. He fought for a local issue he was proud he got few votes but sadly not enough get his money back he felt message was not got simply down to lack funds he missed alot areas. He thinks deposits should be £50.

Now take this police comissioner lark seem they dont want any riffraf in there so the police one is staggering £5,000 for deposit. Damn thats some peoples wages for year why so high.

That would rule out 60% of the population classes from trying to win the police commisioner role. Clear who its marketed for certainly not the ordinary people to have voice on police.

My thought why cant we have commitee with all levels of community who upstanding citizens ie not known criminals or suspected and well respected from poorer areas.

Then they could influence where spending and targeting police action areas to improve those estates. Why has it have to be all huha henry's surely select commitee and public one with cross section far more better an individual who out to milk a cow.

They're so inept they're breaking the law now or given the fact she got away with it perhaps they think they're above the law. Total non job that should've been in the front line of cuts and probably would've been if it wasn't a useful dropping of point for failed politicians
