MP arrested after alleged HOC bar 'assault'

Quote:

A man, understood to be Falkirk's Labour MP Eric Joyce, has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a disturbance at Parliament. Police say they detained a man in his 50s after receiving reports of an incident at a House of Commons bar at about 22:50 GMT.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17136209

If this incident was in any way drink related I wonder if they powers that be will decide that increasing the price our MP's pay for alcohol is the answer....

A bit more detail from the Times
Quote:

Witnesses said that Mr Joyce, 51, MP for Falkirk, headbutted and punched the Conservative MP Stuart Andrew, MP for Pudsey, and assaulted several other Tory MPs and a Labour MP, according to the political website PoliticsHome .

The website said that a witness claimed that Mr Joyce “just started lashing out at people” in the Stranger’s Bar, which is reserved for MPs and their guests.

An eye-witness told PoliticsHome that Mr Joyce pushed a Tory MP and then started punching some of the other Conservative members sitting at the back of the bar. Drinks were also thrown over other bar patrons.

It beggars belief how many people voted this idiot in as the MP for Falkirk.:(:td:

The big irony is the TAX payer pays towards this bar for them to drink at.

How many institutions/organisations have a bar on the premises?

Perhaps Cameron should get the House in order and alcohol consumption down among MPs before wagging a finger at the Friday/Saturday binge drinkers and the sale of cheap booze to the ordinary members of the public? ;)

:tu:

The propoganda machine is in full swing against alcohol already. :(

And a national budget looms on the horizon :(

A minimum price per unit of alcohol in the HoC bar would be a good start

So let me get this straight, we have the situation where a ****ed up MP could go and vote on something important because he has been in the bar at his place of work all day.

Doubt it - in London we have things called black cabs..... :D

Apparently Joyce had to resign as Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary in 2010 after pleading guilty to failing to provide a breath test......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Joyce

His record on expenses also makes interesting reading...

Quote:

Joyce was the top-claiming Member of the House of Commons for the 2005–06 Parliamentary Session, claiming £174,811 in expenses, of which 62% was for staff and office costs.[22] ......he once again rose to the top of the expenses list for the 2007–08 Parliamentary Session with £187,334.[24]

Joyce was the first MP to claim more than £1 million cumulatively in expenses.[25] In October 2007 Joyce claimed £180 for three oil paintings. When asked why he had used taxpayer's funds in such a way he replied "because they look nice."[26] In May 2009, tabloids reported Joyce was seeking advice from HM Revenue and Customs regarding £40,000 in unpaid capital gains tax on the sale of his London home, which he had designated as his second home under the Second Homes Allowance scheme.."

The article says he will be expelled from the Labour Party but IIRC he's intending to stay on as an MP until the next election.

didn't know they could do that ,i thought that if they got expelled from a party then it would force a by election

The electorate voted for the candidate (ostensibly) rather than the party that backed him/her. Though as we know in practice in safe seats you could put a rosette on a pile of bull plop and it would be elected.

Quite and don't we see such a lot of evidence of that! The art of being a 'successful' MP all too often boils down to getting your self elected or parachuted into a safe seat by your mates with the accompanying meal ticket for life...

Or no shots at all or indeed no bars at all, who else here is allowed to not just drink at work but get absolutely blotto should they wish, we wouldn't dream of tolerating teachers, doctors or anyone else turning up for work drunk but the people that run the country, that's fine.

Once again Mr Joyce has got a bit fighty and spent some time in his local Police cells.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotlan...-fife-22626211

Scots MP Eric Joyce has been arrested in connection with an alleged breach of the peace at Edinburgh Airport.

Mr Joyce is believed to have become involved in a row with airport staff while trying to retrieve his mobile phone, which he had left on a plane on Sunday. He was unable to tell staff which flight he had arrived on.
Can't remember what flight he was on? Hmmm, maybe him having a few drinks and getting aggressive is a regular occurrence.

Mr Joyce has been a bit "handy" again....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-32557123
Quote:

Former Falkirk MP Eric Joyce has been found guilty of assaulting two teenage boys in an "unjustified and unprovoked" attack in a shop.

The 54-year-old was convicted of two counts of common assault against the boys, aged 14 and 15, in a food store in north London, in October 2014.
Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, but three times is enemy action....
