Any love for android?
Hi all,
First time poster so be gentle please! Can anyone offer and suggestions or info on the us android TiVo app, i have it installed on my phone but have never been able to make it work like all those lucky so and so's with iDevices! I have TiVo commander and it works well (until next week when virgin media screw all their loyal customers) but i'd like to experience the official android TiVo app! Any advice would be greatly appreciated;-) TACky |
Re: Any love for android?
Don't think the US app works, wrong type of TiVo over here. VM are supposed to be developing something but, going on past experience, it won't appear anytime soon. TiVo Commander was excellent, so excellent it embarrassed VM, so they killed it (and made some cobblers up about 'stability').
You could try this app. It's not as good as TiVo Commander but will control TiVo if that's what you need. http://search.4shared.com/q/1/tivo%2...0apk?suggested |
Re: Any love for android?
Love the way you present speculation/opinion as fact....;)

So we now know who MB's insider is, then? ;)

Re: Any love for android?
Sorry didn't know this was a VM staff forum and where no criticism of VM is tolerated. Maybe you should confine this to your intranet, as is means very little to us mere mortals ;) MB?
Getting back to the point. Hopefully the OP now has something to play with in the absence of TiVo Commander which VM have knackered - something successfully done anyway. |

Re: Any love for android?
Why should he get called on it, as far as i can tell i was about the first person to install TiVo commander in the UK and find it working, i posted this fact on vm official forum at the time, I've had it installed for over two months with no issues at all, no stability problems, in fact its worked flawlessly and bearing in mind what TiVo customers are like i haven't heard one complaint about stability issues with TiVo commander! They moan about absolutely everything else so if there were stability problems why are there no threads dedicated to it?
We all know that VM have downgraded the TiVo to limit this functionality as it makes them look like chumps! Frankly im getting sick of waiting for vm to come good on their promises! Worse still i have recently had a number of posts deleted by the mods on the official forums, no explanation was forthcoming, just stated that the post broke the rules, didn't say which rules and there was nothing in the post that was rude, just stating facts about my treatment at the hands of vm! The company has lost its way! |

Re: Any love for android?
I see your point, but this is after all a forum and i read all posts as opinion unless there is a link to factual evidence, after all these forums are for people to give their options are they not? Or are the net nazis taking up residence?

Re: Any love for android?
As i stated before i don't read that as a statement of fact! This is a forum anything written without reference to factual evidence should be treated as opinion, its a conversation, i happen to think vm pulled it as they had no choice, vm probably received the update from TiVo and had no choice but to implement it as was! But i respect the mans option enough to listen to it, i guarantee you this, i wouldn't jump all over him if he said something i didn't like, i might state my option afterwards but i wouldn't behave like a 13 year old school girl bullying the outspoken girl who refuses to follow the crowd!

People are free to express pretty much whatever opinion they want, pro or anti vm. They might get challenged if they present opinion or speculation as fact. |

Re: Any love for android?
Anyway, back to the OP.... I had the official Tivo US Android app working before the latest update. The channel icons were entirely wrong but it worked after a fashion, not as well as the iOS version I have on an iPad and iPhone. I couldn't make the android version work with the python scripts so resorted to reverse engineering it. There is a direct reference to Virgin Media Tivo in the code that checks for valid devices so I was able to modify the code to recognise our tivo directly as valid. Unfortunately after the latest Tivo update from VM the device is found on the network but fails to respond so the app is useless. I've not bothered to spend further time on this since our iPad works fine. Unfortunately for android you'll have to make do with something like RCX, a remote control replica rather than the full featured access to My Shows and searching across all content that the iOS apps still allow.

Re: Any love for android?
I had it working (didn't have to do much to the scripts, just alter them so I could broadcast both Tivos).. the app connects, but gets kicked out immediately by the Tivo - presumably the box is set to reject anything it doesn't see as a VM app (even modifying the code probably wouldn't work for me as I had to put the Tivo on its own network since VM hardcoded it to barf if its network address didn't start with 192.168 - a particularly annoying bug as it took me 2 days of hacking to work out why the hell it wouldn't work..).
It seems to be very basic compared to the pictures of the ipad app anyway.. but nice to get an EPG on the phone. Pity it no longer works, and I don't hold out much hope for an 'official' app TBH. It doesn't seem to be a priority for VM. |
Re: Any love for android?
Behave and keep it on topic please :)

Re: Any love for android?
Cheers guys, guess i have two options, move to the states and get TiVo or wait for VM to sort themselves out.
Sooooooooooooooooo angry with VM! |
Re: Any love for android?
Am I missing something here (and will probably get flamed) but am I right in saying that if you have an Iphone/Ipad you have a working Tivo app and if you have an Android device you don't?

Re: Any love for android?
Lets face it VM staff on here wont agree to any slander or bad rep towards VM they'll lose their jobs....
come appraisal time they can bown tongue the boss and show how much rep work they have done on here for the company....I can't say they have ever agreed to anything bad about the company unless it reflects personally on them e.g. job cuts etc ---------- Post added at 18:12 ---------- Previous post was at 18:11 ---------- BTW thats not fact just opinion of course!!! |

Re: Any love for android?
Well it was just an opinion and of course you would find it offensive you work for VM.
Without looking back at all 8k posts I've always found VM staff in here limited in information but quick to pounce when its something negative towards the company. This of course is just an observation not fact a personal opinion and as said I haven't seen all the 1000's of posts made on here by vm staff so could be wrong. However my post was in reference to an earlier post about the tivo commander I found that in poor taste to the member who was jumped on right off the bat but well its a forum at the end of the day everyone has an opinion. I say leave it be now let the topic go back on track I'm sure I have enough VM negatives on my profile now to get the message you didn't like what I said. |

Re: Any love for android?
A gentle remember that its against forums rules to discuss reputation in public. If anyone has any issues then the PM facility is there to be used.
|
Re: Any love for android?
Is this the posts reputation or VM reputation - anyway whatever dont think its worth going on anymore in this post
|
Re: Any love for android?
It is against Cable Forum site T&Cs to discuss posters' reputation points in the open forum.
Let's get back on topic, please. |
Re: Any love for android?
SHUT UP YOU BORING FOOLS! as Mr t might say! This topic was about Android TiVo remote apps! Frankly those of you attempting to leap all over someone for making an innocuous comment about VM customer service is really beginning to grind on me; you're making something over nothing! This is a forum for people to express their views on a matter highlighted by a user! I personally think that VM's customer services are useless, they're rude and arrogant with people regularly. you people really need to get a grip! VM will suffer for their behaviour. I will ask two more things of the members: first has anyone got any idea how to make the us TiVo app work on my VM TiVo, like the us iphone app works! Second to the moderators, please close this thread if the mindless trolls can't learn to respect the opinion ions of others, i mean; i have no issues with... i think your wrong because of a, b, c; but not... you're wrong cause i said so and these other idiots said so too, then more idiots saying yeah were right!
