Better get back on topic now and lets hope the Youtube app when this update happens shows a improvement on the old one in turns of functionality and being able to log in.

Who cares ? I've never used it. If you want Youtube use a PC. TiVo should be about TV, that's where VM have taken their eye off the ball.

No, only the ones that use unauthorised APIs. Apps that use the officially approved APIs still work, like the TiVo remote apps.

Well it can't make Youtube any worse no matter how hard they try. Since the last upgrade is barely been usable for me

Funny how they can block the 3rd party apps so quickly but not release the tivo app that they replaced.

What about the official US TiVo app, surely that's using all the same API's as the one that VM delayed?

100%. I've included some screenshots below just to demonstrate how complete it really is; Take note of Virgin Media Movie Awards category, FilmFlex as well as the option to get shows from on demand. :)

The US app works beautifully. Faster navigation, really tidy UI.
The only bit the doesn't work perfectly is one of the gestures windows - the less useful one in fact.
I really don't understand why it's not been possible to release that one in the uk already.
Maybe VM are implementing an addition to the app which will allow us to stream to the iPad. Well, I can dream.

I take it you've already been unlucky enough to have the update and it's blocked it?

I was hoping that this would be the one app to escape! :td::(

Re: New small TIVO software update

I can only assume because it makes them look bad - when they finally release the UK one and we find out it's exactly the same and all they've done is coloured it red and added intrusive adverts, they don't want people going 'hang on... it took you 12 months to do *this*?'

The US android app still works*, provided you fake the zeroconf responses (which the scripts were mostly doing anyway) as Tivo no longer sends out any at all. Presume the ipad app is the same - a lot of the later scripts tried to automatically configure themselves and that'll fail now as you can no longer discover the tivo on the network automagically.

The stuff that's gone is the documented tivo remote stuff..

* Although nowhere near as completely as the ipad app.. you don't get channel/episode graphics.

I believe that you've hit the nail on the head! :(

What else could VM realistically be adding that would take over 12 months?

Had to do 3 reboots between my two TIVOs in the last 2 days, and the menus also seem really sluggish too. They've both been rock steady until now. Is 15.2-01-2-C00 the new or the old software? Guessing the new as TIVO Commander is buggered now too.

Dosnt the US one require a PC running all the time? I don't want the official VM one to work "perfectly" like that.

It may require a PC or NAS to be running all the time, but you get a running app unlike the VM which still doesn't have a release date

That's only necessary to trick the app into talking to the VM TiVo. Assuming they release it before we all die of old age, the VM one won't need the script.

Interesting, and you're sure your on the "fixed" firmware?

I don't have an android device, but does anybody know where I can get the app from? I might want to have a poke about with it....

Ah, the lovely restful-on-the-eyes red user interface that flies in the face of all accepted UI colour conventions. It bet it looks as good on an iPad as it does on a TV,. Corporate madness

Has anyone tried these android apps after the downgrade:-

https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

https://market.android.com/details?i...wxLDEsImNvbS5t...

Do they work ? Is it just TiVo Commnder that has been 'exterminated' ?

Can't test it yet as I haven't been downgraded. My TiVO is therefore apparantly very unstable, but somehow I'm managing to cope ;)

I wouldn't be too worried about instability. You should be more concerned about the security risk that you're still vulnerable to. That's what's keeping me awake at night. ;)

Thanks, that's something at least. No doubt VM will kill them with their next 'upgrade'. They're not a patch on TiVo Commander but I mainly want the apps for the remote function. Am sending my TiVo signal upstairs with an AV sender. Also have a VHD in the bedroom, using the VHD remote ended up changing both boxes (!). Using an android app is a way round this.

Still a shame about Commander. It's much faster and slicker than anything VM have ever produced , maybe that was the real problem. I don't expect to see a VM version within the next 12 months.

Its is improving stability and is improving the Youtube app as well and " gearing up for the launch of new red button services " what ever that means.

I so understand would really like. Pick your box/es . now pick your channels

base it on the choice now , say 50 ,100 or 150 (+ sky extras)

Me I would have a hard time to get up to 50. In reality I think that this would be the case for a lot of households. Do must people watch/ use more that 50.

If so being honest name them ! in my head I got to about 20 we really use.

Will this upgrade / downgrade correct the appalling decision in the last upgrade / downgrade to remove the 'Options' selection when you set a recording so that you can quickly change it so it isn't a 'one minute early, four minutes extra, save until space needed' recording?

I really found that useful. Can't believe it was removed when you set a recording.

I DON'T WANT MY RECORDINGS TO ALL BE PRESET TO ONE MIN EARLY, FOUR MINS EXTRA, SAVE UNTIL SPACE NEEDED!!! I WANT TO CHOOSE THE OPTIONS AS QUICKLY AND EASILY AS I COULD DO BEFORE.

Tell the moaners it's a no brainer DF. It needs to be brought back!!! It's these things that VM just doesn't get right. Choice not preset!!!

Tell the moaners it's a no brainer DF. It needs to be brought back!!! It's these things that VM just doesn't get right. Choice not preset!!!

Surely it would be better for VM to invest in a dynamic epg then no padding would be needed.;)

Agree. Freeview has had this for years, no padding needed. About time cable caught up.

You can still change it yourself by selecting the bottom option (can't think what it is off the top of my head) when you select to record. You can change the options at that point. HTH

Is there any technical reason why this wasn't in the TiVo from the start or was it just an over sight on VMs part?

TiVo has never had it AFAIK, so it's technical.

When TiVo is perfected down the line this is one issue that could always comeback and haunt VM, as people have said all other major providers have some form of dynamic epg.

I am just happy with the dynamic series link, with the V+ I missed the start of a couple of seasons:(

I was under the impression that Tivo didn't have it initially simply because the boxes needed to dial in to the Tivo servers, and it wasn't practical to have them do so more than once a day.

That wouldn't be a problem with the VM Tivo though, as it's permanently connected.

Since the software is sort of bespoke to Virgin Media's needs, possibly they could request the EPG to be dynamic?

As long as it can be turned on or off like Sky's can. Dynamlc EPGs can also cause problems as well as be beneficial.

A dynamic EPG is good in most instances I have ITV1 HD on now through Sky and the listings have updated for the Middlesboro v Sunderland game which is now in ET , it has ITV news at ten now listed at 10.35 with the current footie still listed until then , although I will say it doesn't appear to have updated on the SD variant which seems strange.
