New Rollout timetable
Here's the new VM 100Mb rollout timetable. http://shop.virginmedia.com/content/...%2001%2012.pdf
In some cases it looks as if the work is going to be completed a month or two after the Virgin Media 'speed doubling' rollout is started. ie. Those of us on 100Mb will be upgraded to 120Mb between Feb 2012 and mid-2013. http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/news/21367...speeds-120mbit So, presumably places like Sheffield will never get 100Mb. They will go straight on to 120Mb when it is enabled. |

Thanks for pointing out it's been updated though! Everywhere finally has a date but still a few months til south gyle is upgraded. What exactly does the upgrade process involve? Would appreciate if someone could tell me. |
Re: New Rollout timetable

Free upgrade so what about me?, i'm on 50mb but do not have the super hub thingy i have the curved shiny black one, is it Netgear ? not sure as not at home right now.
Will that cope with 100mb or will i have to pay for a superhub? |

Im on 50Mb at present so i know i will be going up to 100Mb but i live in uddingston which as said before is march 2012 does that mean come marchif its completed will they automaticly put all 50Mb customers up to 100Mb or if i want 100Mb i will need pay to upgrade to it myself come march then whenever they finally get round to doubling speen in my area probz in 18months time id get put up to 120Mb

Re: New Rollout timetable
No, yes and yes. As written in several posts here and elsewhere.

Re: New Rollout timetable
I'm on 50Mbit and I have a VM300, If I want a Superhub (modem mode), do I need to upgrade to 100Mbit?
|
Re: New Rollout timetable
No, you can pay for one or one will be issued when you get the uplift.
|
Re: New Rollout timetable
I have the Virgin Medea 256 modem, will that be ok when the 20 Mb speed update is rolled out in my area?

Re: New Rollout timetable
if 20mbit stays on docsis1 which I think it will, then your modem would work but I think as the poster above says they will force a superhub on you.

Re: New Rollout timetable
May 12, love living under the croydon area, seems the network round here needs alot of work, im still get the 1.75mb upload. my 50mb broadband has been great though, i think the area im in isnt overly used. 50mb pretty much all the time!

You did notice this thread was about the release of 100Mb though, right? IE It's not the over 70 page speed doubling thread. |

Re: New Rollout timetable
20mb is spread across a mix of the legacy and overlay networks depending on area and demand, it doesn't require DOCSIS 3.
|
Re: New Rollout timetable
i would love to see some stats on forecasted utilisation once the upgrades are completed. Moving a large proportion of customers up to 60/100/120 on docsis 3 is surely going to significantly impact the available bandwidth. I know a lot of people are saying that 50mbit users upgrading to 100 arent going to download anymore than they currently do and their usage is going to be the same otherwise they would have paid for 100mbit to start off with, but they arent taking into account the fact that people cant always afford what they want.
There is no way wanging everyone up to 50mbit+ isn't going to result in increased usage, otherwise we would all be quite happy back on 1mbit. If you gave me a new Audi I would make a point of going out more and driving it everywhere I can just because it is something new which I want to use. |

I'm not suggesting you wait until that alleged upgrade in March, but at least there may light at the end of your particular tunnel. |

I fully agree, its 99% certian usage will increase, the only question is by how much. Also it will increase burst time demand which basically means even if someone is only download the same amount it will add more demand to the network as it will burst to higher speed. |
Re: New Rollout timetable
I've been told tonight by a high up chap in VM's UK support that they had meetings today because a load of confusing info has been sent out that they need to rectify.
Apparently when your area gets upgraded people on the 50mb service will get an upgrade to 100mb. People on 100mb will get a discount (in my case £10) to bring in line with what existing 50mb customers pay. Once the rollout is completed in around 18 months VM then plan to upgrade both the old 50mb customers and the old 100mb customers to their new 120mb service. There will then be 3 options: 20mb, 60mb, 120mb. They want to get the revenue back for customers prepared to pay so will then plan for a 200mb service after this rollout is all completed. Welcome to the club.

Re: New Rollout timetable
If they want the revenue then why drop the prices?
