VM are aware that some customers want this legacy function and it will be added at some point. TiVo doesn't have it at all in the US.

Don't get peoples obsession with this reminder button. You've got a minimum hard drive of 500gb - if you want to watch it, record it!

I know people are impatient nowadays but surely you can wait 15 mins after the programme has started so you can watch it almost live and skip the adverts?

People like to watch sporting events live that is why they would like reminders on TiVo.

Spot on i am getting TiVo installed on the 18th jan,and would like reminders this feature probably would not cost a lot to incorporate,and if it makes it more usable for customers then that is only a good thing.:)

It's not really about cost, it's the time it will take to write the code in to the existing TiVo software... I'm sure they will be added, but I haven't used reminders since our PACE box was removed 5 years ago. :)

Thanks DF i do use reminders on my V+ quite frequently for convienience,hopefully it will be an added feature in some future update.

Why can't you record the sporting event? Red Light On = 'Oh aye, that's the build up starting for the match'.

You can't be that much of a fan of a team if you forget they are playing cos you are too busy flicking through the Tivo channels,

Hardly a great indicator is it , the red light comes on regularly when recording suggestions. It's easy to get sucked into something else while waiting for a game to start , why do people get so annoyed about people wanting this feature if there added you don't have to use them.

I do not have TiVo I have no interest in TiVo. I was merely stating what fellow members had stated on the forum before. Why does it upset you so much when people ask for such features, just because you do not feel you personally need it.

Good point muppetman if at some future point this feature is added its true people who do not want it do not have to use it!,and yes i cannot see why people get so annoyed when others like myself would use it.:erm::)

Possibly because it will take a lot of time and money to implement them, which could be better spent on new functionality, not outdated, legacy functionality? :D

You can start watching recordings within a second of the recording starting so pretty much live and if you add padding at the front, you can FF and watch it completely live.

While it might appear outdated to you PB for the majority of people it was very handy to have the reminder facility.

I don't think it's a case of people getting annoyed because other people want reminders, I think it's more that it's difficult to understand why people who have a product that does what they want then get rid of it in favour of a different product and then whinge when it doesn't have the same features. It's like living in Norway and having a really snug pair of boots, trading them in for trainers and then moaning to Nike that they're not fur lined.

Whilst you're waiting for VM to add reminders to the Tivo, why not use your Galaxy or Desire to give you a gentle reminder that you want to watch something live? With two such reminder devices you could even set two reminders one for each Tivo ;)

TiVo has never had it.... Virgin didn't think anyone would be interested in them adding it... some customers complained - loudly, Virgin listened and will add them at some point. End of story - for now :D

A fellow, who's third cousin (twice removed), met a bloke at a dog track, who has this friend who works for Sky (but loves VM) who's sister knows someone who works on an oil rig (somewhere in the states) that has this friend who knows someone who works for Tivo doing the cleaning.

Reminders is a perfectly sensible feature to be implemented on Tivo, it is popular with some users so it is a simple case of VM implementation different methods of viewing TV on their leading product. Those who don’t want it can just not use it, simple! It is certainly not a legacy feature and is just another way of viewing channels when you want. Recording has the limitation of 3 tuners and so 3 channels, so if you want to keep a tuner free and use reminders to change channels across the remaining 100+ channels for particular programmes if you happen to be busy around you house, then it seems a useful approach to me.

I have only ever used reminders once when I had my V+ box so it is not a particular feature I need myself, but I can understand why others may want it.

I feel some people around here need to understand people have different methods for watching TV!

More than just a few, and if VM don't have the money to add this functionality along side other new features, then we should all be worried about the future of VM and TiVo :shocked:

No company has money to throw around, so it's a case of using resources wisely. I think spending money on reminders, when 3 recordable tuners is better anyway, is not wise use of resources.

Hmm what about the customer is always right ! i am VMs customer,anyhow it makes no difference if its there for those that do not want it you do not have to use it.

Any new product in my view should carry all the old features that made the product good and add new ones,not dispense entirely with the old features.;)

Am sure that VM would have got rid of reminders back when the TV Drive/V+ was introduced if it could. It was an old feature from before PVRs and that is why TiVo has never had the feature before.

I am sure that IF TiVo/VM decide to add reminders it won't be top of their list of features to add or improve. So it could be a while coming.

I jut think that if there is something I really want to see I will set a recording or remember to sit in front of the TV with the channel on before it starts or put a reminder on my calender in my phone.

Yes i see your point but TiVo is american and in the states they never had the feature before not however in the uk where we have had it and got used to it.

Yes i think you are right it will not be a priority for VM to introduce it.

It is so much more convienient to have one product one solution then to have to remember to put a reminder on a calendar or sit in front of the TV before the programme starts.

And lets face it TiVo has been sold on convienience.:)

Reminders on V+ are valid in my view and needed. This is because not all three tuners record on V+.

They only become unessesary when all tuners record, as with Tivo.

XTV DVR technology still see it as important and their DVR software is in some 40 million homes with big customers such as Sky , Sky Italia , Foxtel IQ , Viasat to name just a few.

True mate a neighbour of mine recently had a sky HD box install and the software you mention was in there,as well as the other companies as i said earlier mate its all about convienince yours not the companies.;)
