Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
Simple vote really, do you think this has been the best year for Virgin and their TV platform ever?
So what have virgin delivered in 2011? 1. TiVo - The best PVR on the market by far. Still a few tweaks required but no other cable or satellite provider has anything that's like it or can touch it. 2. Red Button on SKY Sports - It finally arrived. Saturday nights for football fans will never be the same again due to Match Choice. 3. SKY Anytime - thousands of hours of films, shows, sport and news added free of charge without the need of an internet connection. 4. Spotify - Spotify arrives via TV through Virgins its cutting edge ‘connected’ TV service powered by TiVo. Music fans go mental! 5. 7 New HD Channels - Eden HD, Dave HD, Watch HD, Good Food HD, SKY Arts 1 HD, SKY Arts 2HD, SKY Movies Classics HD 6. 6 New SD Channels - BBC Alba, True Entertainment, PBS UK, BoxNation, Colors 7. 3 New +1 Channels - ITV+1, Eden+1, Yesterday+1 8. 3 New Channels Confirmed In December - NDTV, Sony TV, CBS Action 9. On Demand - ESPN, ESPN Classic and Aardman Animations I'm sure there will be more too such as the deal with Eurosport for exclusive 3D content from the French Open Tennis, plus 3D content from Discovery. |

You forgot remote record as well Chad something VM customers had been asking about for a while.

Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
For me, TiVo is the best thing on Virgin Media and it's just the beginning of a connected tv world! :)

Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
Yes it most definitely has on many fronts especially with the arrival of Tivo and lets hope 2012 is just as good.

Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
why have 3 people voted no? After everything they have done in 2011, god some people. Just goes to show you cant please everyone

Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
Yes. I think Virgin have done everything in there power to improve there TV platform this year, some excellent editions. Maybe some people think last year was better when they got the Sky HD Channels, your question does say best ever.

Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
2011 has been a good year for Virgin TV, but they need to better for 2012 (which I hope they will)

Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
2011 has been the first year I've felt that VM actually have a technical strategy for their TV platform, rather than just picking up cheap kit from US manufacturers and putting it in a slightly more aesthetically pleasing box. I'd love to see the roadmap for 2012 to address some of the elephants in the room (TiVo EPG quality, running two EPG platforms, TiVo on V HD box etc) but I actually get the impression somebody has a vision and is driving it.
As far as content is concerned, part of me misses TW's desire to be a content provider and there's still nothing quite like Bravo on TV but I accept that this simply wasn't part of VM's core business and it raised a few quid. Onwards and upwards for 2012! |
Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
For me personally last year was better as we had more major HD channels added. I have no interest in TiVo so that is why I voted no to it being VM best TV year so far.
I look forward to more HD content being added next year. |

Yep great year!
Next year could be awesome 1.5tb TiVO, Sky Sports News HD, Sky Sports 3&4 HD, Sky Atlantic HD, Disney Cine HD, ITV 2,3,4 HD, BoxNation HD. New features for the TiVO box watching your recordings on either TiVO box, reminders etc. |

For me it's all about the HD channels I do not want to watch programs in SD anymore.

I still have Virgin in one room as I got Freesat in to save me some money. But This weather has moved my dish & I have to wait till next Monday for a call out to fix it. If it means every time we have a storm we lose our TV, I will be going back to Virgin full time.

Here.s hoping they fix it better this time.

Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
I can't honestly say if this has been the best year for Virgin ever - until about this time last year I was still with Sky having been with them for years. What I can say is that I've been given loads of new channels in the last year, for free, I have a set top box that blows anything else out of the water, access to the best on demand library in the country which is better today than it was a year ago when I first had access to it and, for the first time ever, I have multi-room, and its cost me nothing. If this isn't Virgin's best year then it must be pretty close.

The reason is because VM refused to add new TV channels for much of the year and everything seemed to be about Tivo, something I have no interest in and certainly not something I would ever pay for. I agree that the launch of Sky Anytime has been an excellent addition but previous years seemed to have been a lot better than 2011. ---------- Post added at 17:16 ---------- Previous post was at 17:14 ---------- Quote:
Last year seemed to do more to add to the TV platform than this year and like you, and as I have already said, I have no interest in Tivo. |

Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
I do not know as I do not watch those kind of channels. |
Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
Yes.
|
Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
Yes, easily. But I voted no, just to pointlessly skew the results (nah, joking).
My household went from M package barely used to a TiVo on M+ which proved it's worth within days. It's a killer PVR, bugs notwithstanding, and next year it promises to get even better. Plus more HD channels etc, and BoxNation. Lots to commend, certainly a case where positive points outweigh the negative. |
Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
No it hasn't been as VM have failed to show the best TV programme of 2011 - Game of Thrones.
Their performance in 2011 has been such that I handed them my 30 day notice yesterday as I can now get Sky who provide all the TV I want. |
Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
Voted yes because of tivo, down side is for aquiring new channels.especially disappointed that we have not seen universal hd

If they had got Sky Atlantic, yup - I rate them by the programming they show. I have missed many programmes I wanted to see thus 2011 has been a disappointment for me as a VM customer.
Hard as it may be for many VM enthusiasts to grasp, for some people, Tivo and unnecesarily fast broadband are of no interest. |
Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
So you would voted Yes for one channel. Very very harsh
Sky asking a high price for Sky Atlantic. Also Sky have witheld Sky Atlantic from Smallworld cable. http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...6&postcount=13 |

Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
Sky asking a high price (according to VM)
VM want it on the cheap (according to Sky) I don't think it harsh if this one channel that shows more first run programming I want than any three others combined - in my opinion VM are not commited to providing the best drama for their customers, so I vote that 2011 has not been the best year for them. |
Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
Can we not let this thread descend into another Sky Atlantic thread, please?
|
Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
I would not say it was the Best year for Virgin Media but it was a good year.
The first 9 months of the year Virgin Media focused on TiVo and 100MB broadband. The final 3 months were best of this year because of the new HD channels , New SD channels and Sky Anytime. I think that will continue in early 2012. |

Re: Has 2011 been the best TV year for Virgin so far?
I think it possibly has so i voted yes,the arrival of sky arts HD,and sky sports Red Button*(my one real want;))sealed it in my case.
TiVo has launched successfully as well and whilst i have not yet got one i am sure at some point in the future i will ,more HD has been added in general, and virgin have got sky on demand after a wait,am really pleased with vms offerings regarding tv now,I am sure in 2012 VM wil build its TV platform up even more with new additions.:) |
