Thinking of getting 1TB Tivo but have some questions

Am I right in thinking that If I order a 1TB it would cost only £49.95 which includes activation/installation? or is it £49.95 for the box and another £49.95 for activation. According to their website its free activation

Also i just rang CS and they recon they would charge me £1.50 a month for the Tivo instead of £3

Re: Thinking of getting 1TB Tivo but have some questions

Its £49 install fee and £49 activation fee for the terabyte

So if I wanted just the 500gig I would just pay £49.99?

If I went with 500GIG one and then decided to upgrade to 1TB an idea how much would I be charged?

£49.95 for actvation and £49.95 for installation = £99.90

funkyCable 28-11-2011 21:12

Re: Thinking of getting 1TB Tivo but have some questions

so £50 to get the 500gig tivo and then say a couple months down the line i want to upgrade it would cost £99.90? So in total it would cost £150

Re: Thinking of getting 1TB Tivo but have some questions

The thing thats concerning me about the 500 gig one is that if tivo records progams it thinks I like then does this not eat into the memory i.e hours of recording?

BenMcr 28-11-2011 21:20

Re: Thinking of getting 1TB Tivo but have some questions

Nope. The suggestions don't count towards recording space - so they will be deleted for your recordings

funkyCable 28-11-2011 21:32

Re: Thinking of getting 1TB Tivo but have some questions

OK so 500gig (250 hours of recording) is based on my records not the suggested hours. What about HD how many hours of HD can be recorded? As I can see myself recording more HD content.

I've read some where that sometimes the suggested records cause clashes with planned records and can take preferance.

Re: Thinking of getting 1TB Tivo but have some questions

It's around 60 hours of HD recording. I have never had the situation you describe with the suggestions.

nstokes 29-11-2011 10:12

Re: Thinking of getting 1TB Tivo but have some questions

HD Recording is 59 hours. If there is a clash between a suggestio and a planned recording then the suggestion wont recording in favour of planned recording

You could record more once MPEG-4 gets up and running

That could be some way off yet,as virgin are still issuing samsung V+ boxes to customers with V+ boxes that have a fault,i got one a couple of months ago.

Unless of course the samsung V+ box supports MPEG-4.

But will happen eventually.

The Samsung V+ set top box does support MPEG-4

I'll be 100% honest with no bias as I'm a Sky customer , the difference between V+ and TIVO is immense , my parents got one installed yesterday so obviously it had the latest software installed and I can say with 100% confidence that the box was quick , the PQ on SD was excellent in my opinion and the many advanced functions are also very good , if I had to call one thing about it , it would be the ugly SD screens but thankfully these are mainly hidden. Your only concern would be reminders or Sky Sports red button as the TIVO currently doesn't have this feature but should do soon.

Re: Thinking of getting 1TB Tivo but have some questions

Well thats the thing with the extra recorder, more hd content and suggestions and seeing what is on-catchup. I figured I would just pay the extra now than have to pay again later when I find that I'm running out of space. Looking forward to paying around with the iphone app, connecting it to my lan and my wife is looking forward to being able to see what series/episodes she is actually recording/watching and being able to record more burn notice/ncis etc.

Agree It's more future proof with channels going HD now a days and with Virgin Media on track to deliver 80 HD channels in 2 years.
