Mixed messages on outages

Anyone else in Portsmouth area having issues with BB since Friday 11th? The message on the fault line changes every day so I’m never quite sure if there is general outage or not? Yesterday it was PO7 which is my area.

When I check this link:
https://my.virginmedia.com/faults/service-status
It says there is no issue but there most certainly is. The link below says there are issues but is not that specific.
https://national.virginmedia.com/ser...cements/status

When I called the helpline Sunday they told me there wasn’t an issue in my area and that they would dispatch any engineer to me Weds the 16th.
It’s all a bit confusing. Do I cancel the engineer as there is a general outage or let him come out which may prove to be a waste of time for us both?

I've fixed your broken second link.

If it isn't working let him come - the problem could just be your connection while the general issue might be something else entirely which doesn't cause a complete outage - routing problems, flaky DNS, etc.

The second link is ADSL. Are you cable or ADSL?

Cable.

In that case the link is irrelevant. Is it the one you found or did the moderator's correction point it somewhere different?

As far as I'm aware those are the only two sites VM provide on bb or dial-up or adsl service status.

I used them both but thank you for pointing out that the first one is the correct one. I think I will wait for the engineer even though the connection is ok at the moment.

It probably is but I thought it was worth asking as it's an irrelevant link and wasn't what he actually posted.

In the early stages of outages, Virginmedia's right hand has never known what the left is doing

Well the second link didn't work but I did check the url and it seemed to match with the one I found.:erm:

Frankly I think he might have been better off checking the VM status phone number which I don't have to hand at this moment.;)

I didn't know there was one but as the number has been posted now I'll make a note of it.

I did and wont bother again. After the initial message you have a choice to hold and talk to someone I did and get another message saying "thanks for you call goodbye" and the call then terminates

It dials in to the IVR announcements for your area, you can't connect to an agent via this, it's just a Status Line. :)

Re: Mixed messages on outages

I just tried it from my mobile (using 0800 Wizard to avoid a charge). It asked for my VM phone number. I don't have one so I entered my Vonage number which has the correct area code. It told me there is a fault in NN1 (I live in NN4 but at least the town was correct). It then went on to say hold to talk to an adviser. I didn't but if I do need to call sometime I'll try it to see if I can avoid the 0845.
