New rollout timetable.

http://shop.virginmedia.com/content/...%2011%2011.pdf

This timetable appeared on the VM site today.

It shows availability in Coventry, but a postcode check still only shows 50Mb available.

Re: New rollout timetable.

Anything with an ETA of next year still listed as being planned I see.

Just a case of knowing what the plans are ;)

Re: New rollout timetable.

oh dear, my area Lewisham was set for Dec'11, now put back to being 'planned'. VM may have backed off that further design was needed, so hopefully crossed fingers they will get the upgrade right, capacity etc. might be worth waiting for....

Re: New rollout timetable.

It shows Ipswich as Nov and 100Mbps was available around a month ago when I checked the postcode checker.

I'm currently on VIP 50, what would it cost to upgrade to 100Mbps BB? Sorry to jump on your thread OP. I can't see a VIP 100 package?

That will depend on the bundle you already have, TV, land line phone etc.

Having a land line with VM attracts a £10.00 reduction to £35.00. It costs £25 for the first 3 months. For existing customers like you, it would be best to ring customer services to see what the lowest price would be for your whole bundle with 100Mb.

Thanks for your reply, as I said im on VIP50 so not sure how much extra it is on top of that?

Since you are writing in the interrogative mode I will answer you.

On 50Mb if you have a VM land line you will be on £25 for 50Mb, so 100Mb will cost you £10 more. If you are without a VM land line you will be on £35 for 50Mb. You will have the option of going for a VM land line so you get 100mb at no extra cost, or you stay as you are, pay £45, ie £10 more.

However, all this will be affected by what bundle you are currently on, because you may already be discounted. That's why I suggest you ring customer services.

Re: New rollout timetable.

I'm not meaning to be rude so I am sorry if I am coming across like that and I assure you that's not how it's intended.

On VIP 50 I currently have XL Telco, XL Tv with one TiVo and one V+ with movies & sports in HD with 50Mbps BB. I currently pay £101.46 and thought VIP50 was a standard package with what i am led to believe it is being heavily discounted already for all what you receive.

It's a standard package, I've never rung for any discounts before, I currently have the old 50 meg modem and would also want to keep this if possible. I've had a brief look online and can see the £10 difference P/M but can see a £30 activation! I wouldn't pay that and would of thought another 12 month contract would of been my activation payment.

I am thinking of 100meg. Does anyone know if the Wigan area is working well on 100meg.

Thanks.

Don't worry. I didn't take it wrong. "Interrogative mode" was just a reference to your use of a question mark.

Re: New rollout timetable.

The postcode checker says yes as i had already looked at this.
I was just more bothered about the actual speed as if i only got something like 80meg download i would not bother as my 50meg is very close to that.

Ignitionnet 06-11-2011 13:26

Re: New rollout timetable.

If you're expecting 100Mb all the time and regard 80Mb sometimes as not acceptable I wouldn't bother running the risk.

Everyone can get 100Mb who is on 100Mb if the capacity is there, whether it's there or not depends on how busy the network is. Dropping to 80Mb at peak times wouldn't be considered a problem by VM.

kwikbreaks 06-11-2011 14:27

Re: New rollout timetable.

In my neck of the woods they don't consider it frequently dropping to sub 10Mbps to be a particularly urgent problem.

Ignitionnet 06-11-2011 14:42

Re: New rollout timetable.

I didn't comment on urgency, degraded service due to congestion is not a high priority issue though.

Firmsky 06-11-2011 16:43

Re: New rollout timetable.

I think I'll take your advice Rough Beast and give Retentions a call in the morning, try and get 100meg and Spotify for similar to what I'm paying now. Will happily sign up to another 12 month contract if VM do that :)

Just added 100meg and it's being installed this Thursday! £111.46 for VIP 100 but no activation fee and no installation charge. Also been told I should be able to keep my 50 meg setup without a Superhub! Also had spotify premium added for 6 months! Happy days.

You know it, forget this year we'll have to swallow, unless they get it done in the next 3 weeks, as in December most companies hit a change freeze to the environments.

My bill says I'm not...

It's down to VM not applying price changes to existing customers...

VM's change freeze seems to get later and later, certainly my area is due to upload speed increase in December and some others 100Mb so it's definitely not covering the whole month.

It is quite possible to be on £38 for 50Mbit

There was a £3 reduction a while back on 50Mbit that only applied to new customers and upgrades

TOT but I'd love to know why VM can't fix a standard price for a product and apply it across the board.

Re: New rollout timetable.

Very impressed, Wired I get 97.5 down and 9.6 up, wireless with 5Ghz I get 96 down 9 up but my stupid phone doesn't see 5Ghz so I have to set it as 2.4Ghz and then my wireless drops to around 65 down and 9 up. This has just persuaded me to save up and to get a Apple Airport Extreme, at least that offers dual channels.

Overall very impressed with 100meg though!

We have just had the 100mb installed (that reminds me, the Spotify deal hasn't shown in my account) and am also very pleased with it. The Superhub is actually pretty good although I suffer the same problem with the 5ghz spectrum. We have a wireless printer which is only G rated.

The thing you could do is setup up a guest network (which uses 2.4ghz) and connect your phone onto that and have the main one at 5ghz for all your other equipment. The only downside to that is if you want to access stuff on your network as this way you won't be able to. This is why I haven't done it for our printer. Might be a way though?

Also, Crawley is still showing Dec '11 yet we already have it installed. Guess it isn't 100% accurate.

You can't do that. The SuperHub is dual band but it's not concurrent. It's either 2.4GHz or 5GHz

Which is why I want to keep my WNDR3700 in the loop when I upgrade. This router is genuinely dual band and you can have a guest network alongside that.

Second week of November and still no upgrade in Coventry. I have checked with friends in other parts of Coventry and their post codes reveal no upgrades either.

BenJSmyth 10-11-2011 22:54

Re: New rollout timetable.

So if you set up the guest network does that mean you have to use the main network in 2.4ghz mode or does the guest network use the same spectrum as the main network?

Re: New rollout timetable.

Guest network uses the same setting as the main network

I would double check your address using the postcode checker before calling up. I checked on the postcode checker and it said it was available but the agent said it wasn't. It took a couple of attempts to get it ordered. Also, prepare for a lengthy wait for it to be installed unless you are lucky enough to have the Superhub in which case they may be able to do it on the phone for you there and then.

The Scottish lass I spoke to handled it very nicely. As you said, she spent most of the time looking for an install date (December 15th as I don't have a superhub).

I need someone out to check my power levels (I thought they could do that remotely?) but I have a good 50Mb service in the meantime.

Managed to change the install date online. It's now down for November 30th, so even better :)

Strangely though, the site rejected my first 2 choices, but still sent me an email saying the date had been changed! The Orders section of 'My Virginmedia' has the 3rd choice though (30/11).

Re: New rollout timetable.

Finally Coventry went live today having been "available" for weeks.

My installation is Tuesday 29th. November. I'm opting for the superhub in modem only mode. Reports about the wireless quality are not good, so I will trust my WNDR3700 to do the routing instead. I didn't go for using the VMNG300 because of its limitation to 4 channels rather than the superhub's 8.
