Found this

I can confirm that the american style remote control with the slide out QWERTY keyboard, will launch before the end of this year.
The remotes will automatically be sent out to all TiVo customers at no cost.

Why would you need one when the new update give's you multi-tap entry (the same as a mobile) Unless like me you are a Blackberry user?

I guess it's a hint that there is much more to come for the TiVO box :)

Re: TiVo remote with a slideout keyboard

A dedicated keyboard is so much easier to use than the current method or multi-tap which are both painfully slow methods of text entry

With the new update you can use the numbers like a mobile device. I'm using the update on my box and it works great :p

I just think a remote control with a qwerty keyboard will be great when/if virgin media get more apps.

VM have looked at that remote but its not 100% that it will get released and if it ever does then it will be a purchasable upgrade.

The standard remote will have phone style text entry after the update. Maybe thats what the employee was told about.

Once Spotify comes a calling this will be in high demand, they'd be silly to not offer it.

If they decide to use it as a replacement for your normal remote if its faulty, I wonder how many remote's might slip into cups of tea by accident????

I think I'm right in thinking that in the us this remote only works by bluetooth adaptor plugged into the back of the tivo premiere? If so it's a long way from the vm tivo.

It will be a chargeable add-on product when it launches, it will not be a replacement remote for TiVo. Do a search and see how much they cost in the states ;)

The US version will NOT work with the UK VM TiVo

$59.99 which works out roughly £38 + VAT = £46  no thanks

That's why it won't be a free replacement, but an upgrade option when it launches ;)

Would you pay roughly £46 for the Tivo remote with slideout keyboard ?

Just to update this thread.

The US works with VM TiVo - although the four coloured keys do not map correctly - and a couple of buttons are not available so you need to do two key presses instead on one.

But as its bluetooth you can now control two TiVo in same room - using their own remotes.
