TiVo menu speed compared to Sky+HD.
 

Hey it was suggested on here recently maybe we could get some videos of SKY menus and Tivo menus to get an idea of the speeds to compare.

I've made a very basic video showing Skys menus, epg,Anytime(not plus) and the planner.

Anyone have a Tivo video to compare?

Video below is low quality filmed on my mobile it does go to 720p but gives you the info you need.

Why are people obsessed with the speed of the menus? Sky HD menus are so basic and don't have any where near the amount of info or functionality. Obviously there will be a difference in speed.

Yeah I would completely agree with you, Sky have done a great job of keeping the menus to a minimum. Function over form any day.

Thats ok but all he does is access the "planner" and set recordings. I was looking for a video of a TiVo user accessing the epg, planner,ondemand,viewing a recording, changing channels,

On my Sky video I watch ondemand, access the planner watch a recording, skip from a recording to ondemand and vice versa then from A RECORDNG to a EPG channel etc. I covered all bases.

Some people seem to have a rose tinted view about Sky's menu but for info and functionality and with the promise of far more to come the Tivo beats Sky's menu hands down.

Yes a very valid point , I've used both and for me I have likes and dislikes of both , hitting the My Shows could be a little quicker however most other things are fast enough for the most demanding of users. I like the look of the discovery bar and the channel logos look good , text input could be easier however that is defo going to change ;)

For me Sky's EPG is clean looking , intuitive and pretty responsive with all the key features , this is really a subject what is down to preference. My friend who's TIVO I've used swears by his suggestions now and says his hours spent thumbing up and down has paid dividends :D The TIVO companion iPad app looks superb and will be a great feature when launched soon.

I will agree 100% as I too have used both :D (maybe a first for me:))

I still do not like SKY'S EPG as it seems to look like when you open windows in safe and networking mode:erm:

OK..I'm sold the EPG is the most important thing but 1 question..

What channels can I find

Sky ATLANTIC hd
Cartoon network HD
Sky sports 3&4 HD
Disney channel HD
Sky sports news HD
ITV 2,3,4 HD.

Its just I can't find them listed and being a Sky user I find if I am watching TV then 99.9% of my tv time is spent watching a channel not the EPG.

To be fair........

You don't have to be Albert Einstein to notice I state I'm comparing EPG's but only focus on Sky's HD EPG offering.

Anyone with half a brain would of realised the whole point of the post was to show off Sky's HD offering. But of course in the typical style of this forum you have to over Analise everything.

Its just users of 2 different TV services baiting each other. Nothing more so step back and relax lol. No life and death situations or nothing of any value happening here.

If it is true that being a TV viewer, you spend 99.9% of your time watching a channel, not the EPG, why do you want videos comparing menu speeds? Why are you comparing EPG speeds?

Don't really get why Sky should get mentioned at all on a Virgin Media forum unless its suffixed with; 1, 2, Anytime, News, Sports, Arts or Movies.

My TIVO is now so sluggish it puts me off using it. Even bringing up the recorded shows list takes about 10 seconds and scrolling through the list is painfully slow. My old V+, piece of junk that it was, was much, much faster.

My TiVo is now much the same. It takes an age for the menus to appear and to click through them. Ten seconds for my recordings to come up is about right. While this happens I also lose the small TV window in the top right of the screen and end up looking at a bare red screen with the spinning hoop. The V+ in the bedroom is much quicker. I still prefer the TiVo, though. I am hoping that the upgrade rumoured for October tackles this and the many other TiVo niggles. Then it really will be a Sky-killer. Fingers crossed.

Mine is 3 seconds to my shows from live tv. If I'm in the menu system somewhere say the home page, then going to my shows takes 1 second. Scrolling through the recordings is instantaneous.

Yes mine has always had very quick scrollings though any of the menu's.
