20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

I'm trying to complete this offer: http://shop.virginmedia.com/existing...broadband.html I called and the salesperson was aware of the offer, however said that I would need to pay a difference of £4.50'ish on top of my current bill (as well as the one-off fee).

She said this was because I am currently on the 'XXX' deal, I believe because I have XL TV, phone and broadband and that because this deal would then no longer be valid the upgrade would not apply to me. So I checked my bill and it says I'm currently paying £37 a month for broadband, with a discount of £28 (listed as 'Sky Premiums Combo Loyalty Discount'). However the offer at the above web address says that after the upgrade I'll pay just £18.50 a month for my broadband.

Why am I paying £37 a month for XL(20) broadband when this offer allows for a monthly cost of £18.50 in addition to an increase in broadband speed?

Thanks, any snippets from my bill wanted just ask.

20meg is 19.50 in a bundle not £37

I'm not saying you're a liar jb66, but my bill begs to differ:

37.00 - 28.00 = ?

That's right, you're paying £9 a month for a service that should cost £19.50. Quit complaining.

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

And I'm trying to pay them £30 more for the rental of a modem which enables a service, which they say should cost me £1 less than that. So surely I should be saving an additional £1 a month, not paying an extra £5 as well as the fee (which is what they said I would have to do if I went ahead with the deal as advertised).

If you upgrade to vip50 you pay £101 and get 50meg, sky sports and movies hd and your second box becomes a vhd

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

So you're paying less than you should, and you want even more service for even less money? Jeez. Can't please some people. Read the T&Cs.

Quote:

Upgrade your broadband: First 3 months of Broadband XL and XXL at current standard broadband M and L pricing when upgrading to XL or at current standard XL pricing if upgrading to XXL; non-broadband customers adding broadband L, XL or XXL will get Broadband L, XL or XXL half price for six months.
All customers must have, or add, a phone line. Customers on non-standard pricing (such as loyalty discounts) must move to standard pricing to be eligible for offer. Virgin Media reserves the right to withdraw or amend discount if you change any part of your offer package.

While you're at it, fetch me a free sammich and then pay me to eat it.

You're paying them £30 activation fee. Has nothing to do with rental of a modem.

It should cost £1 less but then you should also be paying £10.50 more. So again, quit complaining.

Interesting, I am already paying for two V+ HD boxes... but what you're suggesting also comes with a free superhub without any one-off fees, correct?

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

Yeah, but the VIP package goes wonky with two v+. You could use the £30 to pay towards a £49 TiVo, then it would still be £101 and free install

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

OK that doesn't sound half bad, how would I go about taking that route? Would it replace one of my V+ HD boxes? Is the TiVo service better than a V+ HD box anyway?

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

I think so, its like the new v+, It doesn't have reminders or red button working as yet, but has a massive 500gb HDD which is perfect for storing HD. It also has youtube, bbciplayer apps which are very handy. You can go back several weeks with the bbc iplayer app.

Anyway I think its better value than the package you are on at the moment :)

Ohh that sounds fun, thanks a lot for your advice jb66. Plenty of food for thought.

Lol. 500GB hasn't been "massive" since 2005. ;) Massive these days is 4TB.

Hi,

just wondered what you meant by it going wonky with 2 V+ boxes lol

i was on VIP50, and now im on VIP100, and I have 2x V+boxes.

Getting Tivo on top at the end of the month possibly.

They pricing changed when TiVo lauched

VIP 50 with two V+HD (or two TiVo) costs the same as with 1 V+/TiVo and a non-PVR

That sounds like you're saying that the £30 activation charge for the broadband upgrade is waived if you pay £49.95 to switch to Tivo. I've just been on to Sales trying to upgrade from VIP20 to VIP50, and have been told I'll have to pay both the £49.95 and £30 charges.

Am I misunderstanding what you're saying, or was I speaking with an ill-informed Salesperson

Ben is the best to advise but when I upgrade customers during a visit the super hub fee is waived

But it is!

P.S. You *can* actually get 4TB media storage drives now, with 1-2TB being common in most mainstream ones and 3-4TB in high-end.

Yes, that was what I thought should happen, so I argued about it (my Glaswegian and his Indian English made that an interesting discussion), but the guy insisted that he was right. I declined the offer, may phone back later and see if I can get someone who sees it differently.

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

Just phoned CS about upgrading from 20 to 30MB only to be informed that after paying the £30 for the new equipment it will also cost me an extra £7 per month.

No idea how virgin work their pricing out anymore, but an extra £7 per month doesn't equal free in anybodies language.

On the plus side i did find out i only have 5 months left on my contract so switching to another provider can now be a serious option.

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

Been there, I asked for 30mb soon as it came out as only a few weeks earlier retentions put me on a bundle which incl 20mb, but like you was told £30 (would i would have paid) and pay extra a month which i was not willing to pay so told them to stick it, recently i wanted TIVO willing to pay £99 but again told my bill will go up due to loyalty discount. When we moved in this house 9 years ago the first thing i did was to get the cable hooked up, but to me it seems like mid contract they dont want to know, they might sit up and notice in March when i ring to cancel all my services.

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

I've phoned 'em up, I can get Sky Sports HD channels as well as 50 Mb, free super hub (which is great 'cause my current Buffalo wireless modem needs daily reboots) and of course free installation. I wish the Super hub wasn't a modem bundle though, gonna lose out on a lot that Tomato can offer me on my WRT54G.

All for 101.9-, about a fiver a month extra. Dunno if I'll bother with TiVo, she didn't even mention that but I presume it's just a £49 up front fee.

I have to pay £30 to activate the super hub.

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

Set it to modem only mode, bypass router, keep using tomato. Problem fixed.

Re: 20 - 30Mb Upgrade on a Loyalty Discount

Yeah I read earlier on about modem only mode after a few Google's. I wonder if I'm going to get home from work at some point this week to find the engineer has ripped out my switch and wireless access point in turn for the super hub, or if they'll just leave it for me to sort out.
