Why does this seem like that this forum is now becoming a VM bashing forum. As most of the threads are like this now?

There are some leading questions going on here, my guess i the next one will be:

Who is the worst cable company in the UK?

You have to remember that like anything we pay for in life whatever it is people are entitled to have a opinion on it whether its good and bad and people will never stop that Devil as customers pay a lot for their services be it TV services or any other service.:)

What most people seem to forget is that you pay for them and when you have paid that is over. The same as all things in life as well? As it is a case of when you have a birthday the day and years that you have had have gone? Whether they are good or bad. You just need to take the rough with the smooth as you do with everything?

Rant over

Why not comeback renewed and just let it just wash over you as you are stronger than that.

Very Happy.

Had Tivo installed yesterday and V+ moved to daughters bedroom. Price has dropped by ~£4.50, and no more 21 year old moaning that she wants to watch [instert name of inane TV series here]. Internet troubles have resulted in £20 credit so the cost was offset too.

So all in all I'm very happy. Mrs Grim however maybe isnt.... after about an hour of setting up series links and wish lists she sounded like some of the negative Tivo bashers on here and other forums and I must admit some of her comments could have some basis (don't tell her I've said that:D). Telling her an update was coming seemed to make her happier than offering her an extra £4.50 a month to spend on shoes:shrug:

Cheers
Grim

On your (or more specifically your wife's point),surely as TiVo is first and foremost a PVR then basic recording should be both simple and straight forward, much as some people on here will hate to here this but with Sky HD if you highlight a program to record you get two simple options 1. Record Once or 2.Record Series, that's it! simples!,unless this super duper "update" that is being heralded for the TiVo changes the way recordings are performed as well as a multitude of other things then I for one will stick with the V+HD box and Sky HD.

ps this is not a VM/TiVo bashing post but is based on my feelings after having and then sending my TiVo back due to my disappointment with it based on previous reviews before I ordered it.

Very poor, I believe - VM's dismissal of what I deem the best channel out there as 'not must have' really irked.

Couple this with their desire for gadgetry (tivo, spotify and the like) over channel acquisition is extremely annoying.

Why shouldn't customers bash VM if they don't feel they're getting value for their money?

Virgin Media have said there is 'modest interest' - they're hardly going to say 'we've had loads of requests to get this but we're ignoring them'.

With only 75,000 of nearly 4 million TV customers wanting Tivo, I would call that modest interest but it isn't stopping Virgin going full steam ahead with it.

As Denphone says, customers want more channels (be they Atlantic, Sky Sports in HD or ITV HD channels) and VM are not responding - result, people going to Sky, who, love them or hate them, actually provde channels for the 'minority wishes'.

installed to date and rising... adding more channels is a seperate issue to wanting/getting TiVo though.

It would be wrong of VM to concentrate on adding niche channels, Sky (Satellite) has a bigger coverage and therefore bigger user base, so it can carry them.

I respect your view and request for Sky Atlantic BTW, i'm just giving you some reasons/economics about getting it.

Re: How happy are you with Virgin's TV service

l suspect Virgin have got many niche channels already on their TV platform so l don't see that as a plausible excuse and l think the reason we are not getting Sky Atlantic is that we are betwixt and between in that Sky are asking too much and Virgin offering too little.

Yes, but the other niche channels know they are niche, so don't cost much to carry, Sky (according to VM) are over valuing SA.

Seems to me Sky has a history of overcharging and accusing others of wanting content on the cheap. There is no evidence to support the claim that Virgin has ever tried to do this, but penty to support Sky abusing their monopolistic control.

In January 2007, despite a 15% increase in the viewing share of Virgin Media TV's channels over the previous three years in Sky homes, Sky forced Virgin Media to accept an 85 per cent reduction in the price it paid for the channels.

Over the same period the viewing share of Sky's basic channels had fallen by about 20 percent in Virgin Media homes. Despite this, Sky demanded that Virgin Media pay nearly double the existing arrangement for retailing the channels, an annual price per subscriber some 1,700% higher than it paid for the Virgin Media TV channels.

Sky claimed Virgin and BT wanted Sky Sports on the cheap. Ofcom disagreed and decided that Sky was abusing its power by overcharging Virgin and refusing to wholesale its sports channels to other pay-TV platforms.

Sky claimed rivals wanted Sky movies on the cheap. The Competition Commission disagreed and has said that Sky has been making ‘excess profits’ on its Sky Movies channels, that Sky charges other pay TV competitors like Virgin Media too much for these movies and that Sky is withholding rights meaning there is less innovation and choice.

Sky claims that Virgin wants Sky Atlantic on the cheap, while Virgin claims the terms offered are commercially unviable. Given Sky's past history of abuse and the fact that no cable company in the UK or Ireland has been able to secure carriage, I'm inclined to side with Virgin Media on this one.

And that has what to do with the proposition?

If it were such a reasonably priced deal, don't you think BT Vision, Smallworld, or Wightcable would have picked up the channel (in a one-to-one negotation with Sky)?

Or do you think the fact that Sky were publically trumpeting that Atlantic was exclusive to Sky may have something to do with it (exclusive - not letting others have it).

Or do you think the fact that Sky were publically trumpeting that Atlantic was exclusive to Sky may have something to do with it (exclusive - not letting others have it).

Because we were talking about Virgin,s and Sky,s negotiations over Sky Atlantic which do not involve BT but if you want to bring them into the debate then remember that Virgin has near enough 4 million TV customers while the other TV providers like BT,Smallworld and Wightcable have far less TV customers then Virgin and would have far less leverage in any discussions then Virgin in any discussions with Sky over possible carriage of certain channels.

They are part of the sale of VMtv... VM get Sky basics in HD, Sky Arts were included.

No, we were debating whether it was that Virgin Media were too "cheap" to pay the appropriate price for Sky Atlantic, or was it more likely that Sky had made the price too steep, and to support the "too steep" proposition, I (and a few others) pointed out that none of the other potential routes to market (BT Vision, Smallworld, Wightcable) had seemed to reach a deal with Sky either.

It is called "providing examples to back up your proposition", rather than just continuously stating, without supporting examples, "VM are cheap" (and I don't regard Sky stating it as supporting evidence....:D).

You do like to narrow the focus down to the only part that supports your position, excluding contradictory evidence, don't you?;)

Yes l probably do to a certain extent but its also a bit of you calling the kettle black on this as l think most of us try to present it from our own point of view as l have noticed on other threads.;)

Yes, but I don't ignore contradictory evidence, or just repeatedly state things without trying to back them up with supporting evidence......;)

Nice ad hominem attack, though (again, without supporting evidence...:D ).

Why does this seem like that this forum is now becoming a VM bashing forum. As most of the threads are like this now?

There is a difference between VM bashing and helping some customers with their problems (which this forum is here for). While we do have a hard core of members who will complain about VM whatever they do (yet mysteriously, some never leave the company who apparently fails them so regularly), I think the results to this poll show that the bulk of people think VM are doing either a good or excellent job.

Yes i will agree with you sentiments 100%, But it does seem that due to a lot of the new threads and also the way some have transcended that it seems to be a bashing thread? I may be out on a limb here but this is just my opinion :erm:

May be wrong or may be right in some peoples minds:(

Average here ... because I rarely use it at all these days!

I'm only on the free package that comes with the phone line and usually use the freeview tuner that's in my DVD recorder for day-to-day stuff.
