V+ (SA) box has lost program information
In June I had a TiVo box installed; I managed to get to keep my old V+ box as well, which (after getting it reactivated the following day) worked fine until a couple of days ago when the program guides started saying "no program information" (though there was still program info attached to previously recorded programs). Resets and power off restarts make no difference. I copied off my old recordings to a DVD recorder and reformatted the drive (as per instructions from this forum) but still no joy. Any suggestions?

Try rebooting you box.
If that do not work today I think you may need to give Virgin an call. |

Check all the connections on the stb (especially "cable in" ) and try another reboot. leave the box for 10 mins to populate the guide. If this fails then you'll need to contact faults on 151 as your signal levels may be out. P.s. :welcome: to the forum |
Re: V+ (SA) box has lost program information
Thanks for the replies.
All connections are OK (V+ is connected to the TV with an HDMI cable). I've rebooted several times, and allowed plenty of time for EPG to download. V+ box will access all channels, and will record (but only with manual recording - can't use the program guide, which is not very practical). I'll take your advice and call 151 tomorrow. Luckily the TiVo box program guide is still working (though I preferred the V+ system). |

I wouldn't have thought they'd give one out they have just collected. It would have to be erased, tested, etc. first. I just wanted confirmation that no more SAs will be given out, it would make sense to get rid of the box since it's not MPEG 4 capable. |
Re: V+ (SA) box has lost program information
No more sa boxes are being issued to techs

Thanks.
Is there anyone else with a V+ in Devon that can confirm whether their box still has guide data? |
Re: V+ (SA) box has lost program information
Called 151 this morning, spoke to a very helpful scottish lady who said the signal into my V+ box was weak, and she has organised an engineer to call on Monday.
However, my TiVo box is downstairs, and the input cable signal is connected via a splitter (Virgin supplied) to the TiVo box and a cable feed (20m low loss) to the V+ box in the bedroom. It has been working fine since June until early this week. So, after hearing that the signal into the V+ box was weak I tried moving the V+ downstairs - where it picked up program information! I re-checked all the cable connections and found them OK (I am a retired electronics engineer). Took the V+ back upstairs and no program info. I'm thinking of trying a signal booster. |
Re: V+ (SA) box has lost program information
OK, I finally traced the problem.
I have an antenna on my roof, which until recently gave good Freeview reception to both my TV's, via a splitter in the loft. Then for some unknown reason the BBC 1 and 2 signals became very poor (BBC cuts?); all other channels are full strength. To fix this about a month ago I put an antenna amplifier (set to about 6dB) in the loft. I just found that switching the amplifier off restored program information to the V+ box. I replaced both dual coax wall socket panels (upstairs & downstairs) with screened panels, and then found that program info was available even with the amplifier on. However, I now find that the TiVo box won't always access "catch up" programs when the amplifier is on (and when it does it usually bombs out halfway through a program). Don't know whether the V+ box does the same. So, I now leave the amplifier switched off, and both the TiVo and V+ boxes work OK (though I find some things about the TiVo box quite annoying - the V+ box is much more user friendly). Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. |
Re: V+ (SA) box has lost program information
That's quite worrying. Even though you have now made your own boxes work, you probably still have a low level of ingress into the cable which could be affecting your neigbours' service. You could also be radiating the VM signal out of your aerial.
Can you check the cabling again? Firstly make sure you aren't inadvertently combining the aerial signal into the VM cable. (If you are, frequency moves by VM might also explain why some Freeview channels suddenly stopped working). Then make sure all VM cabling connectors are tight. |
