ADSL2, is BT still rolling it out?

Is ADSL2 still being rolled out by BT to it's exchanges or has this now been put aside for infinity??

Re: ADSL2, is BT still rolling it out?

My local exchange is due for 21CN upgrades on September 30th this year. An that only got updated on SAMKNOWS about 8 days ago so yes they're still rolling out ADSL2.

My area also gets BT INFINITY late 2011 early 2012. If they were only rolling out infinity now why bother with the 21CN upgrades, unless infinty needs them first?

Re: ADSL2, is BT still rolling it out?

FTTC and the ADSL2+ product WBC over 21CN are being deployed by different divisions of BT. BT Wholesale's FTTC service, which Infinity uses, needs to be backhauled to a 21CN enabled exchange, however the fibre products remove the relationship between a subscriber and their exchange - your BT fibre service doesn't necessarily go to your local exchange but to wherever your BT headend is.

Yeah, 'tis annoying, I've moved to (another!) location with no VM availability, but Sam Knows shows Infinity as being available on the exchange search, but not on my road (nor any ETA :( ).

Oh well, at least we can get a sufficient connection at a very reasonable price from O2.

ADSL2 usually comes before the FTTC deployment, as it relies on the 21CN backbone to provide it. So chances are yes. :)

It's weird as 21CN was scheduled on the SamKnows site for my exchange for sometime in 2011, but that date seems to have vanished on the site.. Just that the only alternative to VM here is ADSL Max at 6.5Mb..

Not really.

As I mentioned above also where an exchange has FTTC cabinets but no 21CN it's usually a small exchange and the headend for those cabinets, where their fibre goes, will be a larger exchange for cost purposes. It's actually cheaper for Openreach to blow fibre from a larger exchange than to set up every exchange with an FTTx headend so there's a fair amount of consolidation going on.

21CN is only used for BT Wholesale services. These are the majority but FTTC itself isn't dependent on BT Wholesale in any way, it's backhauled from cabinet to exchange with dedicated 10Gb links.

Where an exchange has a headend but no 21CN BT Wholesale can choose to use an extension circuit to connect the neared 21CN exchange to the FTTC headend but these will be unlikely. The exchanges that are 21CN are, naturally, going to be the most economical for a fibre head end.

As a case in point Northern Ireland has wide FTTC coverage, all exchanges have an FTTC presence. It has one 21CN exchange.

I eventually found the rollout lists for 21cn and fttc.. and as usual my exchange isn't listed on it at all :(

Don't you have VM though and are very happy with it? So 21CN is of no use to you anyway.

Show's how little of the forum you've actually bothered reading

I don't even have a login for virginmedia.com :D

When 21CN is finally complete, will there be ADSL2 kit in all exchanges?

The guy has a point as your forum profile thing says

"cable says Luton" So that could indicate you have cable services.

Still doesn't mean to say that I or anyone at this address has a VM.com login....

Yet another epic fail

OK I'll bite. I'm confused. Of course you don't have a login for VM.com, so you shouldn't you're not a residential customer, still served by the business division of VM though?

What does not having a login to ebilling have to do with actually having the service?

Were you high when you were writing about epic fails?

As I said if I go to VirginMedia.com I can not log in, nor can anyone on a business account :D

Igni, if you're still about ... Do you happen to know the answer to my question in post 11?

Kymmy 24-07-2011 09:14

Re: ADSL2, is BT still rolling it out?

Chris I think the answer may be hopefully YES, but that depends on if the rollout is ever completed.. My exchange was slated for late 2011, then when fttc came out it was put back to 2012 and now has been removed altogether.. I think as new technology comes along manpower is taken off the old projects and put on the new..

Yes I do. The answer is no.

Have a nice day ;)

Seriously the answer is no however exchanges will be consolidated at some point in the not too distant future. You'll end up connected to one eventually as the old PSTN is being retired.

You may well skip ADSL2+.

Per my above note to Chris FTTC makes WBC / ADSL2+ redundant, so for smaller exchanges you'll probably get some form of next generation service and skip WBC.

And what happens when the next step comes out and we're then bypassed with FTTC for that.. and then the next generation then puts that one aside and one and on and on :D

As I said elsewhere village life is quiet.. even more so on the BT front :D

Ignitionnet 24-07-2011 13:23

Re: ADSL2, is BT still rolling it out?

Depending on how the village is laid out it could be nearly as cheap per home to deploy fibre there as London.

Indeed. I have Cable, but have no VM.com login.

Let me explain that. When I first had Cable, it was with Cable & Wireless. I had a CWnet address with them. For reasons that have never been explained to me, when NTL took over, they never ported the account.

At least if I do have a VM.com login no one has ever informed me.

I'm going to let you into a little secret. You can have cable/Virgimedia services without having the VIRGINMEDIA.COM log in..lmao.

Never said otherwise.. so wondering why you're laughing about yourself???

The internet services to this building comes from Virgin Media Business and is paid for by company.. all I said was the truth..

Still wondering though what your fascination is about my question asking about ADSL2+ rollouts... Some form of fetish perhaps???

Fascination? Fetish? .....Why would they be the first words that popped into your mind ? Strange.

It was only mentioned that as your forum profile mentions cable services then it would be fair to assume you have cable services.

You then randomly answered,,I don't have a Virginmedia.com log in. No one asked that lol.

Kymmy 24-07-2011 16:22

Re: ADSL2, is BT still rolling it out?

Nothing wrong with a fetish or two.. bit like the people on here who join with multiple accounts and try to use both accounts to trick others into thinking that people agree with them..   But members would never do that as it's against the rules would they??

Still wondering why VM cable services have anything to do with 21CN rollout? My question wasn't anything to do with current services.. Still waiting a plausible response which doesn't include deceit..
