Is the TiVo charge now £3 per month on all TV packs?

Because it is according to VMs website.

Yes, it changed today along with the install charges as part of the official advertising launch :)

Re: Is the TiVo charge now £3 per month on all TV packs?

That explains it then. :)

VM really have done a good job on their site, and - finally - a mention that Tivo can record 3 at the same time.

But, someone needs to look at the comparison chart (vs Sky HD) because it doesn't display properly in Firefox 5.

The 1TB TiVo box is now £99.95 for 1st and subsequent boxes
The 500GB box is £49.95 for 1st and subsequent boxes
Free install for all customers
The monthly TiVo charge is now only £3 for all customers (so we’ll change the monthly charge for existing L and M+ customers from £8 to £3 with immediate effect

They are certainly upping the ante now there is no doubt with these offers that l will be getting another one and it will be interesting how these offers play to the wider audience now.

Do Virgin charge extra for a 2nd box? For £50 for the 500Gb box I'm tempted to get one for upstairs.
But then I see Tivo in the US are now talking about the 'slave' boxes which Virgin have mentioned in the past.

Tivo without a hard drive and it plays back what's stored on the main Tivo.

Think it would look something like the 2nd picture.

Sounds like what VM are hoping to do with the VHD boxes. Maybe if it turns out that they're not capable of running the TiVo software properly then VM could release a version of the TiVo Preview box.

Has this been thought through?
Does the price change mean if you are on M or L TV pack then the Tivo is £2 cheaper than a V+ box, but if you are on XL TV pack you pay £3 more for a Tivo box compared to the V+ price?
Sounds a bit of a bargain for M or L viewers with a V+, change to Tivo now and save £2 a month.
Or is there something I am missing?

Does not display correctly on Chrome 13.
Looks like the width is not defined properly in the code.

I think the small print needs to be checked, to me it says I can get a 1Tb tivo for £49.95

Quote:

TiVo: TiVo activation fee is £49.95 with all TV packages. Subscription is £3 a month with all TV packages. Information about your TiVo use: By having the TiVo service and/or by using it you are providing your consent for us to use your viewing information to personalise your experience of the TiVo service (in addition to the other purposes set out in our privacy policy). We may share with third parties information about your use of the TiVo service in an aggregated form which will not personally identify you. This aggregated data may be used by those third parties for their marketing purposes (e.g. to improve their targeting of advertising based on user preferences).
Also I can't seem to find anything relating to free install for everyone. The only free install offers I can see is in the small print are new customers taking Tivo or new and existing customers taking XL or XXL broadband which to me says you have to upgrade to get the free install.

So total prices remain the same with free install as you now pay for activation which was included. Or am I mistaken?

Should state that I'm talking about the free installs that have been running for a while now.

It would need to be done by a engineer as they need to check all the signal levels and to make sure that all is well.

Quite annoyed that VM knock the cost down to £99.95 with no install fee for existing customers less than 3 months after the pre-registers got the absolute bargain of paying £149 with no install fee for it...
It all sounded a good deal when it was advertised with "everyone else pays £199.95" but now we find out that "everyone else" isn't actually "everyone else" and as soon as it's on general release it's got £100 knocked off the price.

If they'd advertised what was actually going to happen I'd have waited the less than 3 months to save myself £50.

The price we have to pay is being lied to about the cost "everyone else" is going to pay for it as they slash it the second it actually goes on general release?

I understand things getting cheaper, if it was 6 months down the line I'd shrug and go "oh well" but it's not, it's as soon as it's gone on actual release.

But what can we do as thats what happened and you could shout from the rooftops about being unhappy about but it still won't change the fact that this is how it is and customers just have to accept that in the end.

Clearly not enough people took up the original offer of the boxes. I did say on this forum a month or so back that virgin would have to reduce the cost if enough people didn`t sign up. It so often pays to sit back and wait,as I have done.:D

But you do not know how many signed up and remember it was only available to existing customers and was not on general release to the full public.

We accepted it based on the facts we were told, specifically:
"£149.95 one-off activation fee exclusively for existing customers (everyone else pays £199.95)"
They're right in the fact it was an exclusive price, exclusively more expensive.

The material facts have since changed, everyone else doesn't pay £199.95, everyone else will be paying £99.95, so therefore my acceptance was based on incorrect information, and as such no longer applies.

They have been giving some people the 1TB TiVo for £99 since the 1st of June as I posted on the "Clear one offer for all" thread, post #13 . Those of us who took the early adoption knew that we would probably be paying a price that would be higher than when it went on general release, so no moan about the new prices from me.

We knew because all new products fall in price, agreed I did not expect the price to drop as quickly as it has, I had thought it would have been at least a year before we saw these prices.Yes I feel let down by VM for the way they have treated longstanding customers who preregistered but my point was that we did know the price would drop at some point.

Yeah, I expect the prices to drop in time, I've been an early adopter long enough to know you always get hit in the wallet the most. But this is as soon as it's advertised to the general public and after telling us we were getting a great offer.
It's not even had a run at the price they stated it would be, it's immediately discounted to less than we paid. If it was dropped from the £199.95 to £149.95 like we paid I wouldn't have an issue, I'd just shrug and go "at least I got it early". But it halving in price immediately on it's actual launch? To the point where I've essentially paid £25 a month to have Tivo early? I'm sorry but that's not just a normal price drop, that's a complete **** take.

You could always give this a try and let us know how you get on.

Or alternatively enough people did take up the original offer that they could drop the price sooner than they planned.

This guy really is talking sense, the excuse for being an early adopter just doesnt cut it. I'm sure a lot of us here are "early adopters", we paid £900 for Blueray players or £400+ for PS3, back in the day we paid £1000 for a CD player..

But never before has something dropped in price so fast,,,,actually the original xbox dropped in price. I think I paid £299 for my original big xbox1 then 6 weeks later it dropped to £99...But microsoft sent us all 2 games RRP£40 and extra pad RRP£39.99 and some xboxlive gold time.

But they may alienate existing customers. Market research company's say its costs 5 times the price to attract a news customer as it does to keep an existing one.

Virgin should remember this. You don't milk existing customers to cover the cost of attracting new ones. You do what Sky does, spend on keeping what you already have.

I'm sure new Sky customers get better deals then existing customers.

I paid £150 for my TiVo, which is now available for £99. Sure would like that £51 back, but like it or not, early adopters have - and are willing - to pay more to get their hands on tech ASAP.

Not sure if anyone expected VM to drop the price so soon, but I can see why they did it:

1TB TiVo at £99
vs
1TB Sky HD at £150

TiVo is by no means the finished article (Reminders, Red button, Dynamic EPG), but it still compares well against Sky HD, especially at that price.

You can now get a Sky 1Tb box which actually has a 1.5Tb HDD for £49. My first sky 1.5tb box did cost me £149 but our new one cost us £49.

Sky+HD 1TB
(with HD Pack)
Box cost £99 Free From £49 - call

Where's that on the Sky site? Or was that a special offer?

The £150 price I got from here:
http://www.sky.com/quickbuy/build

And 500Gb is reserved for Anytime VOD, and can't be used for recordings.

Well spoken and the fact remains people did not have to fork out early for it but of those who did l do not think they will have many regrets about it.

Try getting 20mb broadband, two Sky+HD boxes, Movies & Sport in HD, unlimited calls and line rental for £110.

Can't be done.

Sky cannot compete.

No Tivo on the planet has a dynamic EPG not even the American PREMIUM version. That I'm afraid is urban myth.

Sky 20Mb with phoneline =£19.
Skyworld hd plus multiroom currently £82

£19+£82=101. But remember the multiroom HD charge in gone is September so it will all cost £91.

OH OK..Its just some people seem to think TIVO has this uber intelligent EPG that dynamic and does god knows what else.

Tivo is more about information to sell to advertisers than it is about the end user. Its like AOL- Its basically spyware.

Correct but you get 1tb for yourself, Tivo has 1tb for its suggestion and you to share. Surely giving Tivo 500gb for suggestions and 1tb for the user would of been a better idea.

In what way?

You can turn suggestions off. Even if you leave them on, Tivo will record over suggestions when required.

Can you turn off Sky Anytime to get back the 500Gb?

Well learn you lesson, comparing on price is silly as one would not charge much different from the other.

Its all about what you get for the price you pay..CONTENT IS KING.

An remember this...If Sky removed there content from virgin would many miss it? EG-sky1, sky sports, sky movies...

But if virgin removed there content from sky who would miss...well....ermmm...NOTHING...

In terms of storage both are equal, but sky customers get 500gb of extra programming available instantly, whereas VM customers get way way more than that in on demand which is what you should be comparing the anytime reserved storage to.

Ohh ok..

I only really watch HBO shows on Sky Atlantic I guess watching them on Ondemand would be good.

Oh hold on I can via Skyplayer on my laptop or TV via my pc. Or direct on my tv via xbox.

Virgin customers need to stop being so defensive. Both platforms offer a great service. Also I live in Telford so when we had VM every time we wanted to watch Ondemand we got "sorry there is currently high demand" message so couldnt use it.

Every successful forum runs on opposing views.

Every good games forum has PS3 v XBOX, every good car forums has FORD v VauXHALL .

Take this away you have a lot of FORD IS BEST or VIRGIN IS BEST threads and it all gets very boring very quickly.

I personally think the £3 charge is ok if the service Tivo provides is good. I have VM 50Mb INTERNET and MAY! get 1 tv box but I'm not paying 1 single penny for it.

So once Tivo is free I will get 1 box,try and if its poop I will dump it.

Looks like you won't have a TIVO then , do you think VM should offer it for free ? Don't forget its new kit and new kit always costs. I think 49.95 and 99.95 are lower than I ever thought so early in its life.

2 weeks ago Tivo cost £149+£49 install, this week its £99+free install.

In September I expect the 500gb to be free with free install if your new customer or if you upgrade. I may consider it then......................

Lets be honest..........I never have Tivo will i????/I love Sky to much lol.:) ALSO...No one upgrades there TV service in summer, the footballs finished and its sunny pub and BBQ TIME.
