Tell me about it Wayfair, years ago I worked permanent night's as a furnace man in a foundry so it was hot day and night :(
but the thing was the neighbourhood kid's playing and screaming ( don't get me wrong kid's need to and should play ) but it made things even harder to sleep.
Now it is not so bad as I only work late's and finsh at 10PM, except for this coming week I have to work day's so need to be up at 5:45AM :( :( :(

Seems to be one extreme to the other

A few days ago it was rather chilly, very windy and very wet, today on the other hand, there's very little wind, it's boiling and no clouds.

Apparently it's 21C here, it feels like 30c.

Yes our weather was alright in April and most of May but since then it has been increasingly unsettled and l think the latest forecast is for that next week.

I run a permanent temperature at least a couple of degrees above average so guess I am more sensitive to hot weather but my ideal world would have daytime temp of 23C with nights dropping down below 12C. Oh and any rain must fall between 2am - 4am with any daytime clouds being of the small white fluffy variety.

Yesterday: forecast of possible heavy showers. Take rain jacket to work. Result: dry all day.

I'm off out to clean the windows. The outdoor jobs have been fairly piling up lately. The grass needs cutting as well, but the lawn is such a swamp right now I'm going to have to leave it at least until the weekend.

I don't envy you; our old house had just under 1/4 acre of lawns, but due to the house being old the stone walls surrounding it were listed so you could only get a push mower to them; took a good 2 hours to do the front and back gardens!

Chris 28-06-2011 15:20

Re: Weather

No such considerations here ... lots of lawn to do but lots of petrol to power the mower also :D

The windows are the worse job, we have a lot of bats in the walls and they make a bit of a mess of the windows throughout the summer.

I know i'm bumping an old thread but this summer is turning in to something quite remarkable.

So much sunshine over the past 2 months and looks like there's no end in sight. 28C already up here this morning when most summers we're lucky to get over 20C, it's glorious.

Could do with a day or two of rain though as the grass is starting to go very brown but doesn't seem like that's going to happen for at least a week.

Our area is a heat island. Apparently due to the surrounding red bricks that catch and release heat. So when the forecasts say 30c we easily get 35c+.

And we have been. And it was OK until today when humidity spiked for some reason.

Re: Weather

Well I pray to the God who reigns. Bit cloudy here today and temperature right down. I like it hot and sunny but not the humidity that besets us in the UK when it is hot.

Also our houses are built for the heat, we like to keep heat in not out and we don't have vernadas (stoeps) around our houses where we can sit outside in the shade which would be nice.

Finally "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" is all too true - don't complain about not being able to dig your garden in the afternoon - get up earlier, do the work in the morning, then siesta in the heat of the day and finish off later. If we are having med style weather, switch as you can to a med style time table.

The trouble is, our God who reigns isn't letting it rain!

Nonetheless, your advice is very sound, apart from the bit that assumes praying actually works!

We have a God that reigns? Try telling that to the aetheists and agnostics also those of other religions who have different Gods.

I hope we get a break in the warm weather soon and get some rain. It's been weeks now.
