York council admits fence own goal.

This made me laugh :)

Council bosses have admitted scoring an "own goal" after a fence was built through the middle of football goalposts in a park in York.

You have a singular wit. :)

I'd say them goal posts were/are coming down anyway to make way for the new fittings.

Do not forget that they will have to re-line the edge of the pitch or it will be a funny shape as well:confused:

But good joke and you beat me to it:D

I just feel for the one's playing on the other side of the fence:confused: It would be no good for corners to the near post:erm:

I can't believe the contractors actually went ahead and did this.

Didn't any of them think 'This can't be right'?

Typical attitude; I'm paid to do what I'm told, not to think...

Well people usually complain if a political party starts to move the goalposts.:D:D:D

There should be a penalty for this kind of thing.

I blame de manager. It looks like he lined defence up wrongly. I hope he doesn't take offence. :)

What's the betting that this fence was built after May 8th, when most goal posts in parks around the country are taken down, after the season finishes and someone put them back, to make a point? ;)

They take goal posts down in parks up till May 8th?

when do they put them back up, and why do they take them down?

Many councils take the goal posts down to allow for the bare goal mouth area to be reseeded or re-turfed. Not necessarily on May 8th though:erm:

Indeed ,many councils also take their goal posts down to allow a fence to be built ,not necessarily York council though :D

I would imagine sometime before the sixth of August.

I don't think FIFA have much input into the workings of local councils.

which just means that your post was ...lets say... in error ,councils don't remove goal posts when the season finishes as it happens quite a few sunday or mid week leagues are just starting especially the junior ones and people like to play football all year round

An awful lot of councils do remove most of their goal posts in May and replace them in August. I am not aware of Junior League seasons starting, There are some play off games, but they are few and far between.

Re: York council admits fence own goal.

The council where I used to stay reduced the number of pitches available because there's less teams play during the summer. They'd change the pitch markings and move the goalposts to allow the "Winter" goalmouth locations to be patched up. It worked well.

Pitches were always in pristine condition by the time the season started.

My council have just done that in the field behind my house ,true the games are less in the summer months and the juniors play on saturday mornings instead of sundays ,i think the pitches are marked out smaller as well

Re: York council admits fence own goal.

I would conjecture that every council runs their local pitches to suit themselves and not all of them will be doing exactly what another maybe doing.;)

This seems an appropriate thread for another council stinker:

Obviously he put it up from behind, securing the clips to hold it onto the pole, then leaned over to take a look and gone "damn it's upside down!" and taken it back off and turned it round so it was the right way up.

Double yellow lines measuring 17in (41cm) on a Norwich street are laying claim to be the shortest ever painted.

The lines were laid down in the city's Stafford Street to distinguish a permit parking zone from a two-hour limit bay which all drivers can use.

The lines were measured by the landlord of the nearby Alexandra Tavern who said he did not know why they were painted.

Bert Bremner, from Norwich City Council, said that in hindsight the short lines had perhaps "gone too far".
