Losing wireless connection

Since I got my Super Hub with 30mb a few months ago, at least once a week I loose my wireless connection. No problem with the wired connection. I have to turn the hub off leave for about 30 seconds then back on again.
As it's normaly only once a week I've been living with it, but I've been wondering should I get it sorted. It's just a pain having to get time off for a engineer or would they just send me a new hub?

Re: Loosing wireless connection

What are your wireless settings? Is it still on 300 or have you already lowered it to 145mb? Some people find that it stops the drop outs.

Agreed, also consider installing InSSider or similar as an aid to manually configuring the optimum wireless channel.

The Hub's auto setting doesn't appear to do what it claims from my experience.

From anecdotal reports auto locks onto the most congested channel!-Entirely the opposite of what it should do!

Why am I not in anyway surprised to hear that.

I don't think anyone's surprised what that CPE doesn't do correctly!

Re: Loosing wireless connection

I've just dropped it to 145. I know nothing about routers. Do I have to re-boot the hub?

Re: Loosing wireless connection

Yes if it didn't do it automatically as every other router would have done!

Techs don't Have any wifi diagnostics if I get any wifi jobs I swap the hub and that's that

I know that, what i dont know is why have I been called out? To wave some fairy dust on the hub to make it good

But I thought you said you had to set up your old router as a second access point, precisely because the "superhub" wireless wasn't up to the job?

No I have the old router in another part of the house to increase coverage on a long ethernet cable.

The post did say house.;)

I have both running together and my N8 always defaults wirelessly to the Superhub, the Edimax is primarily for my daughter to use with her studies.

VMNG300-solid as a rock! (don't forget the firmware updates it needed to begin with!)

DIR-615 Dependable especially with DD_WRT firmware but certainly good enough without!

Did you need a second router to 'increase coverage' before you got the "superhub"? Or did the old router do the job all on its own?

I put the Edimax at the back of the house so that my daughter gets better coverage plus I can connect easier in the back garden, I thought why not try it as I had the cabling and the router and it does what I need.

But for general wifi the Superhub is more than adequate and I see no need to enable modem only mode once it is released as I will lose a network.

Before you got a S****hub did you need another router to extend your network?

I did not have good coverage in the garden prior to getting the Superhub but I do now by utilizing the Edimax which I am pleased with, and I did answer this above.

Re: Losing wireless connection

You've answered it now but not specifically previously.

So Before S****hub you did not have the coverage you now enjoy as you did not/have not the same set-up.

before the superhub he probably didnt need a repeater of any sort

we all say to him that the superhub wireless cripples over load, and he says it doesnt, yet his wireless is going through another router

I did say that I had improved coverage above.

I had a long ethernet cable for my daughters Xbox so disabled DHCP in the Edimax and placed it at he back of the house, others have done similar even on this forum.

I take you have failed to read my posts, both networks have completely different names so therefore I know which network is in use depending on where I am in the house.

I'm not saying what he needed or didn't. I'm just asking him to tell us the previous setup and if it needed changing then why!

I think he's answered that - it was changed because he had the chance and the equipment to do so. That's fair enough.

As KenK says above I had the equipment and decided to see what I could do with it especially as the Edimax is less than 12 months old and a shame to not use it.

I had my router in my office upstairs at the front of the house, I now have a network at the front and the back extending the overall coverage.

Only possible with 2 wireless devices,

Re: Losing wireless connection

So can we be clear now then?

Previous to you upgrading you had an acceptable network which worked (I'm trying to cover the pedants here).

Since upgrading you have used your original router to extend your network to a greater extant than it was before.

Mine works and has done since install like the vast majority of the ones out their with customers, just because a few have had issues does not mean that the majority are having the same issues.

craigj2k12 01-06-2011 09:11

Re: Losing wireless connection

Maybe this majority aren't having issues because they have their own router connected as well, like you do.
And if your basing your theory on the number of calls received then that's a false statement anyway. I had loads of problems with mine, yet never rang tech support over it. The only thing I did was email the CEO
As most people will do a Google search with their superhub problems and come across this forum telling them either what services to turn off, or how to connect their own router then they won't call tech support

Stephen 01-06-2011 09:19

Re: Losing wireless connection

The majority wouldn't know how to set up their own router with the super hub.

Only a relatively small minority ever look on forums or even know of their existence, so that is incorrect to say the least.
