do you use wired or wireless to connect to router?

seems many here use wireless and its very popular now days, personally I only use it for devices I move a lot like my laptop, which is my only device i connect via wireless, my pc and xbox360 are wired connections. So starting a poll to see what people use.

Re: do you use wired or wireless to connect to router?

When I was back on 3mb tiscali, everything was wireless, and with such slow speeds over wireless N, everything was able to receive the full 3mb. I put the ps3 hardwired for better connectivity, then when i moved to virgin, i bought a switch and now have my computer, xbox, ps3 all wired so I can receive my 50mbps

...forgot to add, the wii is wireless, as are 2 laptops and 3 phones. The laptops for portability, the wii hardly gets used online so an ethernet cable around the lounge would be useless. The phones obviously arent wired by ethernet, however they only get used wireless because one doesnt have a data plan, the other is connected to wifi around once a month, to update software and mine I only connect wifi if im running low on 3g mb's

I have my office PC, second wifi router, bluray player wired.

Smartphones x 3, iPad2, 2 x PCs in offsprings' rooms, Apple TV, iPod Touch, 5 x laptops, Wii and Xbox are wireless.

(didn't choose anything above to vote for, as not an appropriate option available)

The whole house is wired... PC's and Xboxes... one flick of a mains switch in my bedroom and it's "Goodnight kids!"

Re: do you use wired or wireless to connect to router?

Wii, 1 Blu Ray, 4 laptops, 2 cell phones all wireless.

X-Box, NAS, 1 Blu Ray wired because they are near the router.

Only ethernet cables live behind the TV stand.

Re: do you use wired or wireless to connect to router?

Wired on everything except mobiles and laptop. Got network points in most rooms, all pcs and htpcs are wired with gige throughout the house.

I couldn't do wireless as I have 3 HTPCs that can all be streaming HD content from my mediaserver, there'd be too much congestion.

Re: do you use wired or wireless to connect to router?

My desktop PCs are all wired, for the speed and reliability. My main PC is used for gaming (Bad Company 2) and needs the speed of the wired. Wouldn't use wireless for a desktop PC.

I use the wireless for my phone and PDA.

wired all to all bedrooms and my HD pc media centre setup behind 37inch main tv, wireless encypt and interfrence just dont suit latency work and saves any moaning from kids when those random times that wireless cards just dont know what a AP is :mad:

portable hardware not used for latency work of cause uses wireless

There is no option on the poll to select both wired and wireless as this is what i do so no point in me voting.

Wired is my preferred method!! 2 servers, 2 NAS's, 1 desktop and the Xbox are all wired.

2 laptops and Wii are wireless as are our 2 blackberries, daughters desktop is wireless at the moment, but as I have now run ethernet up into the loft I can put a switch up there and run ethernet to each of the bedrooms!!!

Re: do you use wired or wireless to connect to router?

Insufficient options, I'm afraid. I only use wired but the family when they visit - the girls use wireless for their laptops, the boy goes wired.

The Airport Extreme is very good both 2.4 & 5 GHz.

All of my computers are wired ethernet.

Re: do you use wired or wireless to connect to router?

Mixed.

2 PC's, server and CCTV are wired
3 iPhone/pods, xbox, ps3 and squeezebox are wireless.

Asus RT-N16 handles all of them perfectly, but the superhub couldnt provide a strong enough signal when it was working to get more than 100kbps on the xbox/ps3 even testing on all channels and settings.

Similar here as well, mixed lot. PC's, Xbox, WHServer and printer all gigabit wired.
Only BBerry's and Laptop on wireless.

@Skie, what firmware are you running on the N16? I'm only asking as I use the same router with TomatoVPN.

Same, Tomato USB VPN. v 1.28 Used to use Tomato on my WRTG54 and couldn't live without it (but the old girl couldn't live with a 50 meg connection).

360 = Wired (lower ping ;))
pc = wired (usenet slave)
laptop = wireless
iPad = wireless (no other way)
iPhone/Andriod = wireless (no other way)
NAS = Wired

Re: do you use wired or wireless to connect to router?

Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 wired.
Laptop, iPhone 4 and HTC Desire wireless.

I believe that the wired option is best for online gaming with games consoles.

I wired up the whole house Cat5 when I moved in so pretty much everything is wired apart from the laptops and the Wii!

Re: do you use wired or wireless to connect to router?

Desktop PC, 1 x Squeezebox receiver, PS3, NAS, CCTV and Slingbox are all wired. Wii, Laptop, 1 x Squeezebox receiver and Squeezebox controller all wireless.

Personally, give me wires any day of the week as long as it's neat and tidy - all mine cable back to the loft where the router, switch etc all sit out of sight. Get a good wireless signal with it up there too.

My phone doesn't do wireless because it's so old, and I don't have any of those new fangled iThings, maybe one day!

Except when it requires getting permission from the council to dig up several kilometres of road and public park.
