New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner
Does that mean I can plug separate cable spur into it and get free to air cable channels? It also has free view tuner so maybe stick to that? P.S. also has internet input - could I use that? |

Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Then why have TV`s with built in cable tuners, never seen one myself what brand and model.
|
Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Generic models, in some countries in the world you could add a card via the cam slot to access the local cable network.

Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
I'm sure this thread is about a television with a built in cable tuner. As such I suggest we all get back on topic
|
Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Various European countries use DVB-C as their main TV service whereas we use DVB-T/T2 (Freeview/HD) so Samsung only have to change the plug supplied and not another version of the TV.

It also has freeview too |
Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Not particularly a cable tuner as such, these sets usually tune through broadcast Bands I & III (VHF) as well as Bands IV & V (UHF). These bands are stiil used for broadcast TV in many parts of the world.

Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Indeed. Like in the US for example, where there are many cable providers.

Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Yeap - this also has DVB-C tuner - 'C' actually stands for 'Cable' as far as I know - so its definitely a 'cable tuner'
|
Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Correct.
DVB-T = digital terrestrial DVB-S = digital satellite DVB-C = digital cable |
Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
I don't understand this thread
why as we are in Europe don't we all have TVs / Cable slots or whatever that can be used throughtout Europe increasingly companies are moving staff round Europe and increasingly British workers and seeking Jobs in Europe and vice-sersa how can they take their best loved possession - their flat screen TV - with them to a new job/county if the cable slots / TVs are not pan-euopean ? ? |
Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Probably because components cost money.. a lot of manufacturers will have modules that they add to the units depending on where they are sold.. As cable in the UK is restricted to few companies and their own products there's not much point in putting in a DVB-C module. Other manufacturers though have them in as standard..

Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Also its not always as easy as just changing location settings in your t.v. to activate features / tuners etc some would require a firmware upgrade / flash to reliably change them from one country to another. As i stated earlier in the post a lot of companys make the set with all available hardware then just enable or disable the bits that need to work and how they work on a country by country basis.

Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
yes
but as I said we are all in one large trading block called Europe there is already a Europwide Electrical Power plug system in the States all the TVs and Cable companies are compatatble why is that not the case here in Europe |
Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Probably due to the fact that the states is one country with one FCC controling all the rules which are the same for communications throughout the whole country. Where as in Europe each individual country controls it's own communications rules which means differing frequency blocks as well as rules.. DVB-S I suppose is the closest amalgamation of the rules in the EU

Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Has anyone actually tried tuning their DVB-C equiped telly into their VM feed?
I suspect that the unencripted channels might work! It might save people having to shell out for an additional V-Box for, say the kitchen, kids room etc etc. Many current Samsung TV's list DVB-C tuner in their spec. |

My EuroVox still see's them (and others) fine. My account is fine and I have two official VM boxes already. But whats the point of paying for a third if there is already a functioning DVB-C tuner fitted? Apart from, of course, to see the extra channels I'm paying for. Noise into network? Have you tried it, or is this hearsay? There are several stages of buffering and isolation between properties. Th RF input stage of a quality TV would be correctly terminated ito 75 Ohms and entirely passive. Not interactive, like a V+ box. I'd be supprised if it affected it at all. |
Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
All boxes on nagra3 need the box and card on the account, the internal box to the TV won't be on the account so can't work with the card. You won't get anything but what's already been suggested (remember that VM does not have FTA/FTV channels)

You would be paying a small amount for all of this at another location, but would not want it to work. |

But nobody has tried it. |
Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
Search through the forums and you'll find a few threads from people plugging in old vm or 3rd party boxes/TV's and wondering why they don't get any channels even though they have a subscription.
So yes it has been tried |

Re: New TV I'm looking at has built-in Cable tuner?
The primary purpose of the isolator is to protect the connected equipment from power surges coming down the drop line, as explained in this old thread.
