Would you rent a TV from VM?
Would you rent a TV from VM?
I'm looking at new TV's at the mo and wondering - is it going to be OK, will the picture be OK - will it sound nice - will it break down - should i extend warantee - and quite frankly sh*tting myself over what should be nice experience I've rented V+ box from VM for couple years stress-free & now i've just rented Tivo & I'm thinking, would i rent a TV from VM & my answer is Yes + let them worry about whether it works OK + change it every couple years or so or maybe option to buy it cheap I paid about £1500 (and that was half price) for my TV about 4 years ago so it works out £325 per year if i get rid now VM have their fingers in a lot of pies at the moment and maybe they should think about contracting TV's too |

I'm looking at the LG Cinema 3D range I was very impressed with them.

Re: Would you rent a TV from VM?
Renting a tv is a dear option and a thing of the past, plus you would be stuck with probably one model so not truly a viable option as you may hate the tv they had on offer.

As virtually noone rents tv's I doubt the would be much demand considering how cheap they are to buy nowadays. |
Re: Would you rent a TV from VM?
If you look at the prices below in the link as an example renting is quite expensive 18 months worth of rental woud mean you had effectively bought the set, so if you bought a set in the first place and even adding a 5 year warranty you would be quids in over 5 years ,one reason why i would never rent a tv set from anybody.

Re: Would you rent a TV from VM?
You can effectively get a 5yr warranty for free with John Lewis , just get them to pricematch your cheapest quote online if you look around there are many online retailers with a high street shop as well , find me a model and put me to the test LOL :-) Obviously the model has to be stocked by JL.

We rented outright and did so when first married but it soon started to be cheaper to buy rather than rent. |

There does seem to be a market for rental though http://www.rentaldeals.co.uk/?gclid=...FdFX4QodgWZ7jg |

I have rented a TV before and in some cases it is the best thing to do. This is just IMHO:erm: |
Re: Would you rent a TV from VM?
But as has been pointed out, it's just not worth renting a TV nowadays, with the amount of TVs going for free on Freecycle. Now that people are upgrading to HDTVs there are loads of half-decent TVs going begging each week as it's easier than the hassle of disposal while complying with electronic waste regulations. My local Freecycle group has had 28 TVs listed just this month.

Considering the price of a Television nowadays renting is a foolish option and even if the cost is prohibitive at present due to circumstances beyond your control then you can always go to the likes of Freecycle and get one for free. |

but no worries - i've counted the voted and even if VM did rent TV's most people wont bother |

A television rental service would require everyone to be trained on them and it would require 2 man crews to fit and support them due to the size of the units. This would mean more technicians employed and trained for a service would likely be very expensive and liable to fail for those reasons alone. So no real comparison can be made to the existing services. |
Re: Would you rent a TV from VM?
8 Years or so ago i bought the first 37" LCD TV with built in freeview, it was a Sharp and it cost £3000 from richer sounds (it didn't even have a HDMI connection), you could go and buy a 37" LCD TV now for about £300 so there really isn't a market for renting T.V. now, they are dirt cheap.. if you still thought you couldn't afford this you could go to bright house and get proper ripped off.

however we prefer to rent one from VM I've got the picture pretty well - albeit none of the reasons stack up under scrutiny |

Do vm rent tellys?.

Re: Would you rent a TV from VM?
Used to rent quite a few years ago when TV's were less reliable, but with most manufacturers offering a 5 year warranty now there doesn't seem any point. A few rental companies still survive, usually by pushing the newest top range kit at the technophobes, who want to constantly upgrade to the latest model without paying the purchace price.
