Tivo updates-what is in the pipeline?

Does anyone have any info on what is being updated on Tivo?
By this I mean, what apps are coming, what changes are being made to interface etc?

I know there is another thread regarding niggles and problems, I'm hoping that a few things are changed quite soon as I thought these options worked quite well on the V+ service.

1. Searching is a pain in the proverbial (especially music on demand etc) with no alphabetical seaching-wife keeps moaning at me about that one lol.
2. No page down option when using tv guide.
3. No option to display programme info in the mini guide (unless I'm missing it somewhere?)

Thanks
Rob

Press channel down for page down.

Press Record instead of Info.

(Shouldn't these be in the niggles thtread?)

Yeah I think so, also they are answered in that tread too. ;)

Thanks for the answers.
I did originally say that I know there is a niggles thread, but the main point is I think there should be a coming soon to Tivo dedicated thread-maybe the admins can set it up?

Thanks
Rob

Re: Tivo updates-what is in the pipeline?

The problem with that is that no-one actually knows what's "coming soon to Tivo". We know some of the things they are working on and some of things we hope they're working on but I don't think it's enough to fill a thread with on-topic posts :). Look at the "Coming soon to VM" thread for example  :D

Re: Tivo updates-what is in the pipeline?

There was a list, with approximate dates posted on the Tivo community forum, but it was withdrawn for some reason.

It listed such things as two tivos being able to access each other to watch on one tivo what was recorded on the other.

As always us the customers are left in the dark until we get this tivo update which could be a long way away.

Perhaps it was because people were whinging "Why do we have to wait, why can't we have it now, why, why, why?" or "but that hasn't got the (fill in as applicable) which I must have now!!" incessantly....:D

It's worth popping over to the Virgin Media TiVo support forum and first off get yourself on the beta trial if you're up for it, but also get in touch with NickO. He single-handedly convinced me to stay with TiVo rather than revert to V+ based on upcoming fixes and features.

There's good stuff coming, and although there's no formal list detailed on the forum, you should pick up some good signs in the posts there. They often quote internal bug tickets references, which shows they are logging the stuff and working on fixes.

I think they are probably still reeling from the fallout of such a massive product release (I'm talking impact to their systems, training and processes, more than the actually launch numbers), but given a month or two we should see things ramp up again.

Or perhaps, and I know this may sound very radical.....Why did'nt VM and TiVo get their act together before launching the TiVo system,oh no,instead we as customers have to pay £3 a month extra to act as Beta testers, brilliant!!!

You don't actually have to. VM seem to be allowing people to return them within a month. If you don't think it is worth it as present, ask them to take it back.

I think you are missing my point,if you read all the press from VM they are saying that the TiVo system is all singing all dancing, nowhere does it actually say most of the features will be coming soon,I have also got Sky HD and have had for a number of years and their system has been seamless (no need to reboot the box every other day and no lock ups etc)

What features are "coming soon" that VM are saying the TiVo box Already HAS?

Well I have had one lock up in nearly three weeks and that was when I was messing about. Sky software isn't perfect. There is a long long thread in the DS sky forum pertaining to bugs in the software and people are still posting problems months and years after the software was released. I'm glad it has been perfect for you though.

Sky+HD software Sys 26.80 has been 100% reliable for me however yes your right there are some with issues. To be honest my V+ service was pretty good with not to many issues , I cannot comment on TIVO as I haven't used it in the home environment for any length of time.

I'm glad it has muppetman. The point I was making though is that Sky do not have a perfect record for software releases. Quite the opposite. And when I first had a V+ several years ago it wasn't bug free.

its will be the best decision you can make if you decide to get a tivo as it will knock the spots off Sky,s box.;)

No software is ever 100% bug free , I know with Sky there's been issues with Subtitles but as I don't use them its not affected me , and I was agreeing with you.

Define "most" because, as far as I can see, "most" of the features, certainly the core ones - are already here.

I can't remember my last Tivo lock-up or re-boot; but I'll bet I can find plenty of forum/blog posts about current Sky+ isssues too.

Carl I have already stated there have been problems since Anytime+ software , my software has been stable and I have never rebooted it once , the only one issue was a recording I tried to play back that wasn't there despite saying recorded , however this was on an earlier software version. TIVO is bound to have the odd issue and anyone who doesn't expect that hasnt got a clue. There are forum/blog posts about software issues on every box out there.

I'm really pleased with Tivo, keyboard remote would of been nice, but will look for one in the states and get realtives to send one over.
Only one reset in the last month since install and I think it is an excellent piece of kit with loads of potential.

V+ box in bedroom now, but my missus cant sleep with the blue glow and constant whirring so it's turned off at night.

I like the idea of apps, but not for the sake of it, quality rather than quantity and that goes for tv in general too!

These remotes do not work with virginmedia TiVo boxes so save your money, keyboard remotes maybe coming latter but if they do only VM branded ones will work.
