This is Part 3. Ive copied out the last known major post.

Please note carefully, this thread is for information on VM-TV services.

It is not somewhere for petty arguments and whinging. Keep it that way.

Indeed, and I think we should start this thread for thanking MB for all of his excellent work over the years. I, for one, appreciate the information he finds out for us regarding VM's TV platform.

Lets hope this new thread does not descend into chaos.

All we want is for everybody to comment and have opinions on things coming soon.

Hugh 22-05-2011 14:51

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Unfortunately, some people seem to define "comment" as repeatedly stating "why don't we have anything new" every day or so.

This thread will not descend into that behaviour.

As far as I know Football will be added by August 1st 2011.

But I have got no info on when TiVo users will get the Red Button on Sky Sports.

All MTV channels to receive the US logo and go widescreen and MTVNHD will rebrand as MTV Live HD

It's about time they went widescreen, especially for content on the main MTV channel where they don't actually show music videos anymore. I hope it applies to Viva as well

It only mentions that the logo is going 16:9 not the content. I know it is implied but it seemed strange that they only mentioned the logo?

Also why rename MTVHD to MTVHD Live when it won't just play live stuff?

We'll have to see however I have read somewhere else about MTV going widescreen but I can't find it yet.

Found this about MTV Germany and France being widescreen so it would appear to be right about the UK channels going widescreen in the UK.

Well done to VM for the latest channel they provided for me. Without BBC Alba I wouldn't have been able to watch the Scottish Junior Cup Final today.

The excitement of the ideal final Barca V Man Utd followed the next day by Auchinleck V Musselburgh..... If Carlsberg did contrasts in footballing ability;)

Well done to Auchinleck Talbot 2-1 in extra time. :D

There is a serious point to this. In the 4 channel days of TV when the newspapers were suggesting the possibilities of hundreds of Channels available via satellite or cable, the picture that was painted was of many more localised channels being available. It hasn't really happened that way has it.:(

No news on Premier Sports coming to Virgin Media at my end. But someone posted on Cable Forum (I think the best web site on the web) that Premier Sports was meeting with Virgin Media but that was weeks ago.

I know that it has been removed from SKY ITALIA due to the owners speaking out against SKY. They could be looking to re-coup the money

Found this below , could this mean a new BBC HD channel , I know this is satellite specific but do the VM BBC feeds come off satellite ?

Speculation on DS says it could be used for Wimbledon finals in 3D short term.

VM gets it's BBC HD channels feed direct via fibre, not satellite.

Right wasn't sure of that , I think if the Wimbledon Finals are shown on the BBC HD channel in 3D this should be available on all platforms though.

Just a thought, but if you have a TV with Freeview, which most come with now, could you not use the TV's tuner for red button things until it gets added to Tivo?

Surely there would a strong chance don't forget VM carry C4 HD , E4 HD and Film Four HD were Sky only carry the first two.

BBC have to make all broadcasts available on all compatible platforms, they can't favour one of the other they must stay impartial.

E4 HD launched on $ky before Virgin, as did CH4 HD (i think!!)

Yes the BBC has a responsibility to all licence payers , and the point I was making re C4 HD channels is that they are all currently on VM so if More4 HD did launch I would expect it to be on VM .

You just have to look at the output of each channel to show which is the better broadcaster. C4 won't screw customers out of HD because all the resources are being burned away in throwaway dramas while complaining about a lack of funds just for Sky to turn up with the wheelbarrows full of it.

Hopefully this will mean HD on 4oD will hurry up as well, nice to know a broadcaster other than the BBC are concerned about getting stuff in High Def.

No list update this week.

Here is the only info I have been told this week:

-CBS Reality is now free to all L TV Package viewers until July 1st on Virgin Channel 148.
-From Tuesday Current TV is moving from the M+ TV Package to the XL TV Package on Virgin Channel 155.

Tomorrow at 6am we will be saying goodbye to Eurosport 3D on Virgin Channel 523,

More news for any boxing fans on this forum. The British and Commonwealth Heavyweight title fight between Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury on the 23rd July will be broadcast on Channel 5. It's great news for British boxing fans who don't subscribe to SKY Sports, it's the first live boxing broadcast on a terrestrial channel in over 1 year.

Live sports events to get the axe. Just what Murdoch wants. That will be more pay off from politicians for his support at the last election.

I see that my ''Total Channels'' has gone up by FOUR in my area since 10.30am today.

I do not know anything more (at time of posting) but I think it maybe:

-Virgin Media only testing them out to see if they work fine.
-Or (and it the big or) CBS missing channels are set to launch soon - OR some other channels are coming.

New channels on way???

I see that my ''Total Channels'' has gone up by FOUR in my area since 10.30am today.

I do not know anything more (at time of posting) but I think it maybe:

-Virgin Media only testing them out to see if they work fine.
-Or (and it the big or) CBS missing channels are set to launch soon - OR some other channels are coming.

There are more (HD & SD)

I had this information confirmed to me yesterday. I was also told by CS that now TiVo is up and running the main priority is increasing the channels. target for VM is 50 HD channels by the end of the year.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

I was told that more HD content will be added soon when I rang up to discuss options regarding the increase in the telephone line rental. However, the agent was not either willing or able to say whether this new HD content will new on-demand content or whether it will be new channels.

Let's hope most of this is accurate. If so it's very good news for sports fans like me. Been waiting a long time for Premier Sports (only channel in UK to show live Nascar) and EPSN America in HD will be great.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

More HD channels to launch in July?

I was in the Virgin store today and picked up their July edition of the Buyer's Guide. I noticed on page 10 "More channels than you can shake your remote at" that the following HD channels are listed:

CNBC HD
ITV4 + 1 HD
MTV Hits HD

Also as someone pointed out earlier this week, Virgin are also suggesting here that they offer some interesting HD channels:

http://shop.virginmedia.com/digital-tv.html

The Spectacular HD section includes Nat Geo Wild HD and SKY2 HD.

Does anyone know if any of these channels are coming soon or are Virgin being either careless or simply lying to us about the channels they provide?

Careless. They had the US FX HD logo up for nearly a year before changing it to the UK one.

EDIT: In fact on the slider they still have the US logo.

Broadcast: ESPN signs first darts rights.

ESPN has won the rights to the BDO Winmau World Masters darts tournament, which was previously aired by the BBC, as it looks to push beyond its core sports of footabll (Football) and rugby.

Perhaps if the Mods hadn't been so rigid and ridiculous in the modding of this thread there wouldn't have had to have been a very similar second thread created and perchance there would be no confusion as to what should be posted where... just a thought!

Sounds like a good idea!
If it goes out of control, why not make a sticky for the both threads.
Although it's a higher presence on the list of threads, it would help people see the two?

:)
