Samsung V+ Box Error
Hi There
My box was totally frozen today, no picture nothing. So I turned the box off from the switch at the back and left off for 30 secs. Upon switching back on the box was dead - no lights nothing. I then heard a feint sound and reset again and held down the on/off button on the box then a STOP error has appeared. Is my box knackered?? Really fed up as have lots of recordings on there. Help appreciated. I already have Virgin engineer coming on Monday but want to see if I can fix. Thanks :) |

The box will be replaced on Monday as it is dead, sorry.

This has been rumoured to provide a temp fix in some instances:
Switch the box off at the wall, switch on again, press and hold the standby button on the front (left hand side) and the OK button (right hand side) for a few seconds. Release the OK button then when the display says stop, release the standby button and then press the OK button. To be honest, it didnt work for me when my v+ died and ultimately its going to be a box swap. I hate to say it but you can more than likely wave bye bye to any recordings. Phil |

A STOP message on a Samsung V+ when put into the diagnostic flow will advise us to book a technician to swap a failed box everytime.
You can try a reboot but it will get you nowhere. |

yep, ended in a box swap for me.
was just passing on a suggestion i was given when mine died. As i said, it didnt work for me but supposedly has worked as a temp fix for some other people. Nothing to lose by trying it i guess. Phil |

Thanks I read the link. No probs, thanks for replies. Would seem that most of the issues on these samsungs were new boxes, ive had mine for almost a yr.

There was a bad batch manufactured early last year. Most of the failures happened quite quickly, but yours has hung on.

if the date is 01 02 03 month of 2011 there is a good chance, the date is on back of box

is this a common thing with these boxes?
reckon that mine must be the best part of 12 months there or just a bit more. yesterday morning was just getting non-stop pixelation of the picture and screen freezing up. ts said that they couldn't see my box online and there were no area issues, which they wouldn't as the connection light was either flashing away or off. so an engineer is booked for the weekend. but this will be my 4th box in like 3 years - it's becoming a pita to keep losing recordings because it decides to commit hari-cari........................try explaining to my 3yo why he can't watch bob the builder or fireman sam. the first 2 boxes were SA's, thought they were a pita so got a sammy. now with this one ending up likely to be replaced i'm not keen on them either - all these bloody boxes keep failing on me, the first replacement sa box died within 2 hours of swapping out. do they do any testing or qa on these during and after manufacture? because for them to keep on like this roughly every 12 months seems odd or just coincidence? |

The fault here was with a specific batch last year as per my post above and I am surprised the box lasted so long. This is the advantage of not owning the box as any faulty box is replaced without question free of charge. |

didn't know about the bad batch of SA's, my first one was one of the silver tv drives as they were. that one lasted about 18 months and was swapped out for the vm branded ones. that died within a few hours and had to wait a week for a replacement. and that was eventually replaced with this sammy about 12 months ago. That really is pointing a signal fault. Check the cable connectors are screwed tight.
