Wife has account with VM BB but can I get one of the new deals!

Evening.

As you can see am/we are not new VM customers. Over a year ago we stopped everything and just kept 10meg BB for £27.50 a month.

As title says, the service is in my wifes name (maiden name, married 10 years now :-)) so what am asking is can she cancel and I would ask for one of the new deals, as a new customer?

Thanks.

You have to wait three months after cancellation before you can become a new customer.

So its only one account per house?

All we want is 30 meg BB/tv/Phone for around £40..... Wife said she asked about getting 30 meg BB and they started talking about install charges and £60/70 a month.

So there is no point in my wife cancelling BB as I, who does not have VM account, cant take advantage of any offers VM have?

Could this never happen....

Your son would have to move out to a Virginmedia provisioned property and order his own services.

You could do a transfer of responsibility which would just give you control of your wifes account with the requisite proof.

You do have to wait 3 months which is precisely to prevent what you want happening.

Your best bet is to call in on 150 and choose the option "Thinking of leaving us" and see what they can offer.

I would check what you were quoted. If you really do only have BBI, then adding TV and Telco should get you the current ongoing price for those services

So M+ TV, 30Mbit BBI and Telephone would be £37.99 a month

Just call retentions (press # if you're leaving) and ask for advertised deal - you'll get it <<<guaranteed>> provided you are prepared to start a new contract

Not if the new account is in a different name you dont, thats what the OP is asking. The wife cancels and then as soon as its cut off the husband can order new services because it will be in a different name. The only problem is the week or 2 without any services at all.

Read post #4 from a Virgin Media employee. The system is smart enough to stop this situation.

I take what Virgin media employees say with a pinch of salt, especially on these forums. I was in a similar position a few years ago, 3 weeks without aervice was all it took and that was only because we had to wait a week for an install.

I would not hold your breath as that is the process which is in place to prevent people doing this, it is much easier and painless to go through to Retentions by choosing the option thinking of leaving us, and then asking for a better price especially if you are wanting to upgrade as the OP wants to.

A friend of mine cancelled his BB and phone with VM , he's had two calls since giving notice offering him deals , seems their desperate to keep you just the same as Sky , once my year is up with Sky I'll ring them and politely say I'm thinking of leaving for VM , should net me a discount , if not its hello VM for a year. What a cheapskate I am :-)

My daughter is moving to a new house, my son is moving in to her old house. Now the question , my daughter has VM , will she have to take it with her or can my son take over contract and then my daughter start new contract in new house.

Re: Wife has account with VM BB but can I get one of the new deals!

Hi, can I add to the pot....

Moved a couple of years back, transferred account and took up the VIP package (HD V+ box nice). Down graded to just BB, sent all hardware back.

I have been reading the deals and there is a lot of one time payments/activation charges.

As I have never cancelled my contract, it is my understanding you can up/down grade once a mouth. So the account was a down grade to BB.

Question;

Would I need to pay the one time charge/install (before VM have just sent out the box in the post!) on any deals I get offered/take up?

If so why?

My thinking is my wife's account has already been HD turned on. If one month I didn't want HD, asked for it to be taken off for a month, would I then need to pay another activation charge every time I wanted it on/off through out my contract? Or do you pay a one off payment when you take out your contract and that lasts until you leave!

Do you need a new modem for 30meg BB. We have the 256 modem. Would be nice to have a new modem/router combo from VM ;)

Yes you will need to pay install/activation charges. When you say "If one month I didn't want HD, asked for it to be taken off for a month, would I then need to pay another activation charge every time I wanted it on/off through out my contract?" do you mean Sky premium or XL TV?

OK, so am a little rusty on VM packages...

My point was we have paid "One-off £49.95
V+ HD activation fee" for this account when we took the VIP package? So why do I need to pay again!

VM asked for the box back cos I didnt have there TV package. I didnt jump up and down and say come and take it away. Thats beside the point.

Its the address/person that pays the "One-off £49.95
V+ HD activation fee" right?

All am thinking of is going back to VIP?

Once the equipment is returned / product dropped then your previous activation is void. VIP has different install charges. I think install/activation is free http://shop.virginmedia.com/bundles/...e-package.html

Just out of curiosity, could you show me where it says that in the TAC please.

These terms relate to disconnection of services:

When these agreements end or you cancel a service, we and/or Virgin Media Entertainment will deactivate (permanently switch off) any relevant equipment we supplied to you to provide the services. You will no longer be able to use the equipment.

and

If we or you end these agreements, if you decide to disconnect from some of our services, or if you wish to take up an offer to upgrade the equipment we provide to you, you must return the equipment to us or (if we choose) make it available for collection in a reasonable condition, allowing for fair wear and tear.

and

If you fail to return or make available for removal any item of the equipment which we have hired to you, you may have to pay extra charges for such equipment, including the replacement cost and reasonable recovery costs. In addition to our other rights, we reserve the right to bring proceedings against you for the return of our equipment

You mean after you expressly asked for it to be "de-activated" :)

There's your clue

As I said just call retentions and ask for advertised deal and you will <<definitely>> get it (without all the 'new customers only' & leaving for 3 months mumbo jumbo) provided you are prepared to start a new contract - this should be policy for VM and as such cascaded to customer service & web site instead of the smoke screening and alienating VM customers

Which means that they would have to pay for its re activation.
