One major TiVo issue for me

Well, it was a week yesterday that I had TiVo installed. Whilst there are a few little bugs and annoyances that I would like to be fixed (which I'm sure will be in time), the one thing that really narks me about TiVo is Music on Demand.

Can hardly use this any more due to lack of track skipping on playlists and on top of that the fast forward option is just one speed and is chronically slow (appears to be x2 or x3 at very most).

Also, there is no search facility and browsing is an absolute nightmare. I can only seem to browse by artist name, which takes ages to scroll through, given that there is separate entry for each track by the same artist. Wouldn't be so bad if searching by artist just brought up a list with one entry for each artist, then clicking on the artist name brings up a list of all their tracks. Browsing by track title or genre doesn't appear to work at all!

I am very happy in general with TiVo, but Music on Demand is a feature I really enjoyed, but can't use it at all now as it is so frustrating and time consuming to use.

We used to use Music OD daily, but have now stopped since we got Tivo, the ads were bad enough, but as you say its terrible on the Tivo.

I thought the TIVO had an advanced search function ? Shouldn't it be easier to find things.

For TV programmes it does, but this doesn't seem to have been implemented for Music on Demand. There is no search facility at all at present!

I agree. Maybe it was one of the things that was deliberately left out so they could get the box out quicker. Perhaps it is a big change to implement, so it was left as a 'coming soon' feature!

Yes it is slow and thats why l am not using music on demand at the moment, hopefully its speed will improve as time goes on.

This is one of the reasons I feel so disappointed with Tivo. You pay more whilst you lose basic features that are available on the "dumb, brick like, vhs wannabe V+" *roll eyes

Re: One major TiVo issue for me

You just need to give it time as like any new box it has its teething problems and certain things missing.

You need to ring Virgin up today and ask them to swap you back to the V+. Clearly tivo as it stands at the moment isn't for you.

That would be because the OD/Red Button aren't actually part of Tivo's features at all; basic or otherwise. They are Virgin Media features.

Not saying they shouldn't be there but that you are simply wrong in your reasoning.

As a customer though, paying more for a box that has less features than the other cheaper box from the same provider is not what a customer would expect.

Regardless of the technical reasons behind it all, you would have to have carefully studied all the small print and tech specs to see that you would lose Music playlist skips, Red Button and Reminders. Maybe not even then.

Unfortunately, without a timescale for all the niggles (and the list is quite long now), I can't justify waiting without these features indefinitely whilst paying more. So this Friday, the family are meeting to discuss whether to keep or go back to V+.

Re: One major TiVo issue for me

Obviously i would suspect the TiVo was trialled extensively before release, now it has been and features that people have come to expect from virgin media are not on the TiVo box i would love to see a copy of the "trialist" feedback.

The enlarged TiVo hard drive is to be welcomed no doubt.

But a lot of services people have come to expect from VM appear to be misssing.

Theres no way l will go back to my V plus as my primary box yes true tivo has a few things missing and a few niggles here and there but l am confident these will be sorted out sooner or later.

Maybe it would help to think of TiVo as being different. Somethings it has are new, some are done better. Somethings existing boxes do better and some are not present on the TiVo.

Whether the TiVo is better or worse would depend on you requirements.

Agreed. But I just hope VM's "near future" is within a few months and not 12+ months.

This is very true as now there is no way that I would go back to the V+:D

Im not "simply wrong", I know you love TiVo and sing its praises, but I dont care about Tivo in the US and its lack of features. Virgin Media's "TiVo" should offer basic features that VirginMedia currently offer and then the TiVo features on top of that. Im a customer who uses certain services which are not available on TiVo, I was'nt made aware of this at the time of ordering and even now I'm getting used to TiVo as a family we are really missing the features we used on a daily basis. And on top of that I pay more for the lack of services! How does that figure??
