"Sex and coffee" trigger stroke

I would have thought they were more likely to cause burns.....:D

Coffee, sex and blowing your nose could increase the risk of a type of stroke, say researchers in the Netherlands.

The study on 250 patients identified eight risk factors linked to bleeding on the brain.

They all increase blood pressure which could result in blood vessels bursting, according to research published in the journal Stroke.

Top causes of brain aneurysms are apparently
Quote:

  • Coffee 10.6%
  • Vigorous exercise 7.9%
  • Nose blowing 5.4%
  • Sex 4.3%
  • Straining to defecate 3.6%
  • Drinking cola 3.5%
  • Being startled 2.7%
  • Being angry 1.3%

Actually I'm not angry..just mildly annoyed that TPTB keeps trying to undercut my usually laid back sunny disposition by using pessimistic scientific data which has us constantly seeing a half empty glass when it's really half full.;)

I think he's referring to menstruation and menstruate, and what a nice bit of info to have for the wife when she's on one of her mood swings.

"Behave yourself dear or you'll have an aneurysm, look it says here.."

I'd think it would be quite high though, well beyond "straining to defecate".

Only if you deliberately intended to convey anger. I'm not judging, since unprovoked outbursts of anger, in neurotic fashion, often indicate lack of self control, emotional instability and a general trend towards psychopathic tendancies. So you are wise to try and hide it.

I wonder where the Ephedrine: 30mg Caffeine: 210mg Asprin: 25mg Naringin: 100mg stuff I take from time to time would rank in this list?

So what happens if someone surprises you with a cup of coffee, whilst you are having sex?

Coffee 10.6%
Vigorous exercise 7.9%
Nose blowing 5.4%

Straining to defecate 3.6%
Drinking cola 3.5%

that only = 39.3%

which leaves 60.7% of reasons to be listed.

Given that 1.3% is in the 10 would lead you expect that all the reasons would contribute less than 1.3 %

Which means that there has to be at least another 60+ potential causes of aneurysms.

Given that the research pool was only 250.

Leads me to deduce that this is poor science.

I would expect to see on the full list such causes as extending your little finger too swiftly or in other words we're not really sure so we guessed.

another load of old tripe.
