Cervical cancer

I was going to post this in the Moans thread but its more than a moan.

My cousins wife has been told she has cervical cancer and shes only 35 :(.

So she has to have a full hysterectomy (everything must be removed.) I don't know at this time how bad it is but in the coming days/weeks we should know more.

My aunt was with here and my cousins wife burst in to tears saying "I can't die I've got two kids."

So my family is on hand to help look after her kids (3 & 6) if needed.

I say now to every woman here, GET YOURSELF CHECKED.

Re: Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer is becoming more and more common, and keeping on top of the dreaded smear tests is often the only time people find out.

I'm very sorry for your relative, but she is in the best place and advances in treatment means she is more likely than ever to survive. She is lucky to have had her children, I'm sure thats a comfort as I have a 24 year old friend who is the exact same position and won't have the opportunity for kiddies.

Keep positive and I'll keep everything crossed its treatable and she's back on her feet running after the little ones asap.

x

My thoughts are with your cousin and will be thinking of her. I use to avoid the smear until Jade Goody's story came out and I went and got it done. I really do owe a lot to her.

Keep us up to date Hom3 on how your cousin is doing :hugs:

And anyone with young daughters, please make sure they are vaccinated against the disease that causes cervical cancer.:tu:

That way we might make it a condition that affects as few women as is humanly possible in future generations.:)

Sorry to hear that sad news mate, will she be treated at Addenbrookes?
Please tell her from me that being told you have cancer is NOT an automatic death sentence.!!!!!! So many cancers nowadays are so treatable if they`ve been caught in time and the BIGGEST part of your treatment is your own ,positive attitude towards beating it. I know.;)
Give her a hug from me, I have a niece who`s a staff nurse at Addenbrookes and the treatment there is superb. ( I was`nt treated there) My best regards to her and her family mate.:)

one of the reasons HPV( a major cause of cervical cancer) is on the rise is due to promiscuity and the fact its now acceptable to sleep around more.

Hope she gets well soon

Which is why it's a good idea to get our children vaccinated against it as well as regular check ups.Prevention has to be much better than a cure.

We lose too many to this condition.:(

Can't agree more, and from personal experience.

I lost someone very dear to me last year in November through lung cancer, incredibly difficult to watch and my thoughts/prayers go out to you and your cousins wife.

I hope they make a quick and full recovery.

Best,
Steve

I Feel for You and your Family, and I hope it all goes well for your cousin's wife.

My Mum bless her endured 8 weeks of radio and chemo therapy for stage 3 cervical cancer 2 years ago roughly now and at her last check up she is still in remission

All the Dr's and Nurse's do wonderful work

I had to fight to get my daughter vaccinated after her college was "accidentally" left off the round of visits. Very few of the other girls bothered to go for vaccinations though... it meant going to other places around the city was "too much hassle".

Only just seen your thread Hom3r and wanted to say how sorry I was to hear your news. You must all feel that you are in a scary place at the moment but try to keep positive and at least by this time next week you will all know what you are up against in your battle. :hugs: to you and all the family.

50/50 what? 50/50 they will get all the tumor? meaning she will need further treatment ie chemo? 50/50 could mean loads of things. Obviously wishing her the best

That is a really important point Zing that is not understood by most people.

If someone only ever has one partner and they only have one partner then cevical cancer does not spread.

The sad thing is widowers infect their next partner.

The sooner someone gets the diagnosis, the better their chances of survival. I hope she gets well soon,

My very very very bad typing I should NOT have put a :D in the 50/50 it should have been a :(.

She was told she has a 50/50 survival chance.

For putting a happy smily I'll stand in the corner for a while.

That is not good mate :( mind you I know of cases where someone has been given no chance of survival and ended up beating the odds and lasting over 10 years .

The message isn't getting across due to the many erroneous scares about vaccinations across the last 30 years.:(

An update.

Yesterday they removed some lymph glaned from the groin area (IIRC) and the cancer had pread to them it would be a case of cancle surgery and undertake radiotherapy and chemotherapy before a hysterectomy would beconcidered.

But it hadn't so today she had complete hysterectomy (everything was removed). So no it a long road to getting back to health (4 months minimum).

That is a good news Hom3r and what a good phrase "getting back to health" can be when the out come could have been so very different. :)

Yes it may take some time but with you and the rest of her family and friends supporting her I am sure she will get through the next few months and be able to put these last few scary weeks behind her.
