You were asking who would be using their internet on the 29th, i was merely joking around saying that people can't go without the internet each day; or more importantly facebook.

Yes, iv shot myself in the foot by adding this as an option havnt I!!!!

I am just trying to get an idea of what people are planning to be doing, I really thought today would be quiet on the net, especially as the weather was so nice, but by the way my broadband was behaving, it would suggest that every man and his dog was online, and I want to know what the UK population are planning on doing on friday, because I want to actually be able to play without lag and disconnection

i know its a bit weird/random, but i genuinely wanted to know what peoples internet intentions are, because if today is anything to go by, friday could be a real pain, and virgin media might be losing a customer

Unfortnately craig, you have made your qestion far too general.

You are looking at it from a gamers point of view judging by your other post.

You perhaps don't realise that gaming is not the be all and end all to everyone on here.

i dont care really. the basic need is that my connection can be used at all, then second priority is that i can use it for gaming, today was awful, and to top it off, I couldnt get thru to UK call centres either, however if its like this on friday, I will be terminating my contract with virgin, as today peeeed me off, but friday will tip me over the edge

I really dont want to change provider, and im hoping it wont get to that point, but if anything like the disgrace I got today happens again, I will be at the very least be making a call to my contact at the CEO office, and hopefully trying to resolve something like that, I dont want to have to move to another provider, as there is only ADSL to go to, and in my area the max speed of ADSL is 3mb becuase of the distance from the exchange, I would go with someone like Be* but they wont accept me as a customer because my line is too far away from the exchange. Virgin was my only real hope of getting decent speeds and today they took that privilege away from me. I have been very happy with my service until today (apart from the p2p management affecting games, another story)

I really hope this doesnt happen again, for virgins sake

Well, I'm going to try and download large amounts of data, But as I'm with Virgin Media, I'll probably just have to settle for some light browsing and checking my E-mail every now and again.

Who cares about Friday anyway, Saturday's the big day.. next episode of Doctor Who is on :)

I will be doing what I normally do, 'netwise; and if there are any speed issues I will not worry about it for one day.

Seems to me Craig you need to start the ball rolling and get your BT landline re enabled, why don't you get ADSL BB and downgrade from 50Mbps to 10, and have 2 services to flick between.

I'm a big gamer and have been at the wrong end of issues for far too long with Virgin so trying to live with ADSL currently giving me 3.5Mbps down isn't fantastic but the jitter is very good in comparison so in some respects worth the trade off.

Currently I'm running the 2 providers side by side (Vm vs Sky) for a month and I have to say it's a close call, when you've had good speed it's hard to go back to what seems like dial up in comparison but it all depends what you do with your bandwidth, for gaming virgin aren't always the best (unless your in a low uptake area) due to the bursty nature of the their BB, which I cant see getting better any time soon especially once 100Mbps is rolled out nation wide.

Re: Broadband Usage On 29-04-2011 Royal Wedding

Given I am unlikely to have VM installed by Friday as I'm still waiting for the construction to be done I am unlikely to have any impact on the VM network so will be doing very little due to my current temporary wireless service's restrictions.

some confusion.

I see the gov's website says friday is the extra bank holiday.

the PDF document of my council's website for school holidays shows 2nd may as a normal bank holiday, 3rd extra for wedding O_o and 29th april as a normal day. I am assuming my council have ball'sed up as the 29th is national?

--edit--

Read another page giving their reasons, they just treating the 3rd as a a bank holiday for schools as they felt it was unfair the 29th fell in the normal half term, softies.

29th is at the employer's discretion.

YouTube will be streaming the wedding live so im sure that may slow down the internet a bit

Re: Broadband Usage On 29-04-2011 Royal Wedding

If you're looking for a major slowdown like during 'that' England world cup match last summer, I don't think you'll see it for this event.

Even then, it was only BT's network that chugged and had them rate limit all their circuits at BRAS level (my two were limited to 2meg (from 8) for ~2hrs) with Plusnet also shoving their network into 'Disaster' mode - that was a shambles :-)

I think I remember when BT capped everyone on infinity to 2mbit, whilst embarrassing for them if it was to avoid congestion then it was a good move.

i think it was more to prevent a meltdown more than prevent congestion

remember that BT advert with the guy off my family. "come round to my place guys", then the voiceover said "you dont have to worry about slow downs with BT, and you dont need ot make exceuses for your connection"

LOL

Apart from that it was actually an Openreach fault and not intentional. Line profiling went a bit Pete Tong and throttled many users across multiple ISPs to 1.75Mbps.

I was planning to go into maximum grinding download mode. Open 1000 simultaneous connections, upload and download maxxed out. Hopefully shame VM into upgrading their network. As it happens I don't think I need bother, VM seem to be incapable of coping with evening YouTube or iPlayer use so tomorrow should cripple them without any help from me.

I am not too surprised, I dont know many young people bothered about this, my parents are of course but their generation will usually watch something like this on a normal tv.

I have been redecorating my office and fitting a new carpet just awaiting a few other bits that I have ordered for it to look good.

While waiting for the paint to dry I watched a movie instead of the televised pap.

I watched it on TV while working.

Always good to indulge in a bit of national pride. We are, after all, the United Kingdom. Tends to require a monarch, and given our status in the world the Commonwealth and beyond would be rather nonplussed if we didn't do something a bit special.

The money this event will bring in through various sources will, no doubt, more than pay for the costs. A good part of the rest of the world adores our royal family, even if some within the country are more republican.

Almost avoided the whole wedding by walking with family from St Ives to Zennor along the cliff-tops. Got back to St. Ives and accidently downed 3 pints of Wills and Kate special bitter!

BTW St. Ives has few hotspots so I didn't go on the net for a whole week!
