Sky living OD

Why is there such a small amount of content under Sky living OD since Virgin media sold the channel to Sky? They used to have catch up for most of the big shows and a fair amount of old content. Last night I looked and all that's there is episodes of four weddings, most haunted and bedlam. Wouldn't Virgin media have made sure Sky was still going to put programmes on there as part of the contract?

Sky now only supply what is available to their own customers on Anytime, this obviously shows up the limitations of Sky's own service.

They don't want more of their content available on VM, than their own.

From a balanced perspective though DF it has only just properly launched and Sky are now putting full series on it , the main drawback at the moment to me is that it is only available to Sky BB customers , but that will change sooner or later in my opinion.

No need to balance as it's the current situation for Sky Living. The OP asked a specific question and I answered it truthfully.

The fact that Sky Anytime has only launched means nothing to a VM customer ;)

Re: Sky living OD

In deed it doesn't but I believe Sky living content is on anytime+ and sky player although I'm not 100% , so maybe the reason you state is incorrect.

---------- Post added at 13:20 ---------- Previous post was at 13:00 ----------

Just dawned on me it was a member on here who had emailed the CEO office asking about Sky OD content and was told Sky wanted to much money for it. If VM had a contract to take all Sky Living OD content , wouldn't Sky be in breach of contract for not providing it.

well off the top of my head there's no Greys anatomy , cougar town . Maybe Sky hasn't acquired the OD rights for all the Living Shows yet.

I don't know, we rarely watch Sky Living so I didn't honestly know what programmes from that list are from the channel.

I think that was to do with Sky1 etc.. they will be added this year, no date given yet.

Living was a female oriented channel on VM and I think Sky are keeping it that way. They have moved Bones from Sky one and Chuck from Virgin 1 to Living, which are slightly more gender neutral, but no sign of either of those on Anytime+, so you could be right.

That's what I mean once anytime+ is bedded in fully and in more homes I fully expect Sky to pick rights up to most shows , if VM have a deal for that channels content OD will then end up on VM also.

As I said I rarely watch this channel but were the programmes mentioned in this thread previously available on OD when VM owned the channels?

I have no idea, Chuck dosen't seem a bad show but I haven't watched the others that have been mentioned.

A little clarification please. Were you referring to further Sky Living OD material coming later this year, or other Sky basics OD coming later this year?

I read that original comment to mean all of Sky basic channels and so was dissapointed when I read it, as the original announcement when the deal was finally done on Sky basics channels did say VM would be able to have access to OD content.

There would be good value in VM getting OD content from other Sky basic channels, as their are popular programmes on Sky channels e.g. House and Fringe are our favourites.

You get so used to having the OD or catchup service from VM (which is great) for the main BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5 channels, you start to miss it on others!

It started as a female oriented channel but VM started to push it towards men too as the viewing figures rose.

Indeed, I think good old Thames Television once part owned it didn't they.

It's been around in one guise or another for years now, and some people said it would never last!

Same here until sky started moving some Sky 1 type US TV shows over to Living. But now there's nothing on Living On Demand to look at.

Quote:

The channel began broadcasting in 1993 as UK Living. This came about as it was established by the firm then known as Flextech (now Living TV Group), who also owned a half-share in the established entertainment channel UK Gold.

In 1997, when the BBC and Flextech launched UK Style, UK Horizons and UK Arena to form the UKTV network, it was decided that UK Living would remain a separate channel. As such, it had to remove the 'UK' branding to avoid being confused with the UKTV services; thus UK Living became Living.

Living subsequently launched a website at livingtv.co.uk, and to complement the website's branding, the channel was renamed LivingTV in 2001. This was initially represented on-screen by the addition of the letters 'TV' to the established logo. In a 2004 branding relaunch, the way the name was displayed changed to LIVINGtv.

In a further change in 2007, the channel name reverted from LIVINGtv back to LIVING (still officially spelt all in capitals, though some media write the name in normal case). In 2009, the idents were changed to a 3D logo, with glass on the side of the 'L' in either pink or blue. Other idents show the logo covered in paint, while Livingit adopts a slightly different appearance.

BSkyB announced on 25 October 2010, that Living would be rebranded as Sky Living in early 2011 and moving EPG positions on Sky from channel 112 to 107 after Sky1 and before Sky Atlantic, in order to improve their entertainment line-up

TiVo has 3 episodes of Bedlam, Four Weddings whole series 1 and series 2, plus the latest episode of Uk series 3, Most Haunted Series 7 (7 episodes)

No episodes of Katie, yet.

It will be a massive plus if Sky get OD rights for all shows as it would benefit both platforms , they seem to have Deals for a lot the Sky Atlantic shows.

It used to have all the US shows on catch up such as grey's anatomy, criminal minds, medium etc. It also had a lot of their own programmes for catch up and older episodes of programmes such as most haunted. It was useful if the V+ failed to record on series link.

They only seem available on the online player, I don't think they are available through Anytime+ (Sky's OD service thru the STB)
