Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
Just watched `Katie. My Beautiful Friends.` and I`m feeling very sad at the moment.:(
Just watched the second episode and realised how lucky i, and my family, are.:( She`s a Very Brave Girl after all she`s been through. I`ll post some links in a while. |
Re: Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
yes i have seen this, but people will do anything for money.. i am quite sure that if she never was attacked like she was.. would she give a flying ..... ? i dont think so, for that reason i won't be watching it anymore

Why do you think she`s doing it for the money? I don`t understand your way of thinking. Sometimes, something happens in your life which may change the way you look at certain things. I had Cancer and beat it, that changed the way i saw different things. |

Re: Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
do you people honestly believe that if she WASN'T attacked, she would care ? come on...
e.g. ben and brooke kinsella, did she care about knife crime until it happened to her brother ? come on people are so gullible. |

And perhaps it will take something equally as tragic to make YOU care about the less-fortunate than you. |
Re: Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
Very hard to watch, and we moan if we have a spot or a rash or something, all of them deserve awards on that show.

Re: Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
Nearly everyone who goes through something tragic wants to help in some way, that doesn't mean they want to cash in.

Maybe she was not exposed to people being disfigured in her every day life before the incident. I'm not exposed to them either, do you think that means I don't care? Many people become activists in a cause when it gets brought to their attention, such as seeking cures for cancer. Only the most bloody-minded cynics would view that as not caring. The fact is she's drawing attention to an important issue. Who cares if she's being paid for it? From a quick google search I can see she was involved in awareness for such victims before the attacks, she wouldn't have been paid for that either. Seriously, lighten up a little. Or a lot. |

You rightly say that you don't know what happens behind closed doors. However, most people I know would not cash in on something like this. *If* Katie Piper had started presenting a TV show that was unrelated to her injuries, or *if* she had started releasing endorsed products (such as DVDs), then I'd agree, she's cashing in. If she went on to marry a multi millionaire because of the fame she has gained through her injury, I would also agree she is cashing in. As far as I know, she has not. She has done nothing apart from the highlight the plight of a group of people who, through no fault of their own, have been disfigured and are, at best, ignored and, at worst, insulted or assaulted because of those disfigurements. One other thing we wouldn't know. She may have been trying to highlight their plight before her attack, but we wouldn't have heard about it because she would have been just one more charity campaigner (a pretty one, admittedly) but the media would have been no more interested in her than they are the millions of other charity workers. |

I'll say it.
Not everybody in this country lives by your very low standards. |
Re: Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
I bet that he was one of those who complained about Cerrie Burnell on CBBC?
One notice board comment read: 'What is scary is the BBC's determination to show " minorities" on CBeebies at every available opportunity! Mod Edit. You could have picked anyone of several quotes which had no swearing in them. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz1ITf2Vdwr |

I have been a member of his forum for 7 years, and rarely spoke my mind when I shouldn't.
My first was about adverts in F1 and I ranted and right got a warning. This time this idiot pushed me over the edge, normally I walk away but sometimes you have to stand up and be heard. Lastly were is the ignore tab as I don't honestly know where it is. |

Re: Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
seriously people, where was this person before she was attacked (fair enough it was horrific) but if this person is NOT selfish, where are the pictures video clips etc of her BEFORE the attack doing work to promote equality for disfigured people ? i am the narrow minded one ? do the math... like i said... how long was brooke kinsella protesting knife crime before her brother was tragically murdered, how long, please enlighten me...

It makes no difference if she was doing anything with these people or not before she was attacked .The attack served to change her perspective on life and make her a less selfish person (not suggesting she was before),that is what happens to people when tragedies occur to them ,that is how most of the charities and foundations are started .Sir Bobby Robson started a cancer foundation shortly before he died ,was he selfish ,he got a lot of press and tv coverage through it |

Besides, as noted above, she doesn't need to have been doing this work before she was injured. As long as she is doing it now. |
Re: Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
So, according to Pete's logic, any of the disabled soldiers who do publicity/fundraising work for Help for Heroes are only in it for the money?

Re: Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
So, the fact that she didn't get the injuries fighting for her country means that it's somehow bad for her to help others?
How do you feel about (say) rape victims who go on to counsel others? |

Re: Katie. My Beautiful Friends.
I can say that it is narrow minded as you would see things differently as if you grew up the same as me:
1- Having regimented hearing tests at school and then becoming deaf in one ear. ( Also having a deaf friend at school ) 2- Also having a best friend who went to a specialist school due to his disabilty. 3- Also having a nephew who at the age of 6 was in a house fire and suffered 95% burns on the whole body ( losing fingers and toes on one side of his body ) 4- Then also have a child with AUTISM. It will make you see the world in a different light and also make you feel that the life that you have got is good ( not really as you seem to take care of all the others and think that your life is meaningless in comparison to the others out there ) Rant Over! |

For instance, a family member was wheelchair bound for a while as a result of an operation. Until that point, I thought that we (as a country) were quite well equipped for wheelchair users. I now know that (at the time at least, the situation has improved thanks to the Disability Discrimination Act) we were terribly equipped. |
