Head of Anti-Cuts Campaign UKUncut

Unsurprisingly is a thoroughly middle class Oxford graduate.

Anyone who didn't see that coming?

It would have been better if he was on the dole. but still, I bet his mummy and daddy are not too pleased.

You mean people should never protest against something that they think is wrong but doesn't personally effect them?

Beyond that a 22 year old freshly out of Oxford claims to know how the 'average' person is being affected by these cuts, sure. He's very much the stereotype of the middle class idealist socialist with zero idea of the real world having never had to experience it.

The link has indeed disappeared. Curious. Maybe Thom's daddy kicked off some legal action.

EDIT: That's actually not the first link that UK Uncut might find somewhat embarrassing that's disappeared offline today. They're busy I guess.

I made no judgement, I'm merely noting that he's the stereotype. Zero exposure to the real world, affluent upbringing, wanting to educate the rest of us to fit his narrow view of the world. This issue is just his soap box, if not this I'm sure he'd have found something else to exercise his activism on.

But Mr Costello did criticise Aaron Porter, the president of the National Union of Students, on Twitter for condemning the violence. Mr Costello wrote: "Shut up Aaron Porter you ********. Smashing a window is not violence."
Hmmmm. So with that in mind if I had his address and went round and put his windows in and torched his car as I don't agree with his beliefs I wouldn't be committing a crime?

He's just singing off the same hymn sheet as the delightful Laurie Penny.

Well first of all I think quite a lot of middle class people will be feeling the impact of these cuts. They tend to make up a large number of public sector workers and will be seeing their jobs going.

Not that it should matter. I don't see why his upbringing discredits him at all. The 'exposure' to the real world is a bit of a red herring as few people can say they draw upon an experience in all sectors of british life. It is the case for most people that their upbringing affects their view of the world.

In the grand scheme of things your not that much older than him...

In the grand scheme of things yes I am - I've spent nearly 14 years outside of education and not living at home, he's chalked up maybe a year.

His upbringing discredits him greatly, I have no idea how he can claim any kind of empathy when he has no experience of such things. Sympathy and empathy are quite different things.

Sorry and all that he just strikes me as a typical toff rent-an-activist.

I think he's a complete idiot. I was going to call him something worse but that would get me in trouble ;).

Lets hope they can pin something on him and quick.

Friend of my sister's is a little like that..

Bought up by fairly affluent middle class parents. Good school. Uni (although not Oxbridge). Decided he was thoroughly socialist through and through (to the point where he repeatedly said capitalism was evil). Left Uni, got a job as an Investment banker and all of a sudden, thinks nothing of spending £100s on an evening meal for two, or £10,000 (which, incidentally, was his quarterly bonus) on refitting his bathroom despite the fact that the original suite is less than 12 months old.

Hypocrite? Yep, I think so.

Note: While I personally don't think I would spend money like that even if I had it, it is his right to spend money how he sees fit. What irritates me is the amount of anti capitalist rhetoric he used to spout.
